Derek seeing behind the gates for the first time and completely freezing up. Suddenly he's looking at everything, past, present and future, and he can't process it. It's horrifying and it's beautiful and it's rewriting his entire sense of reality instantly. And all he can do is stare.
Hours pass. He is not aware of reality now. He is stuck processing the impossible. He stares at the screen, unmoving and mesmerized,
and then he learns that someone will care enough to save him. To try, at least.
It breaks him out. He remembers who he is. He's real. He's special. He may be insignificant, but if someone is willing to risk their own life to save his, then surely there must be some reason that he exists at all.
He learns that he is worth saving.
Regaining his ability to run, he heads off to warn Avery,
please do not save me. i am not worth it.
