Weird Sax
If you want to see the sublime meet the ridiculous, check out this video of the largest playable saxophone - the sub-contrabass saxophone - played alongside the simply dinky soprillo saxophone. Personally, I think the sub-contrabass sax is a prime example of the well-worn saying "Size isn't everything". It just sounds like one musical fart after another to me. The soprillo or sopranissimo, however, has a gorgeous tone.

The other night my friend Cory and I were having a session in the Jazz Lounge and discussing the existence of a bass saxophone. We knew that saxes went as high as soprano and as low as baritone, but I was curious as to whether or not they went higher or lower than that.
Come to find out, there's 9 members of the saxophone family, starting with the soprillo (also known as the sopranissimo) which is the smallest and highest in pitch, then the sopranito, soprano, alto, tenor, baritone, bass, contrabass, and the subcontrabass.
