I had to take a closer look at the Tales of the Underworld trailer because the Cad Bane fandom got me thinking more about it as much as I am trying to avoid it, and I have lots more thoughts after watching it some ten times in a row today.
I will start by saying I think the trailer has been SPLICED with scenes out of order and in random spots, overlaid with dialogue that may or may not have anything to do with what is going on at that particular moment in the trailer. I also think Disney/Star Wars tends to do this to keep us guessing, anyhow, and it's working, but I digress.
Let's start here, for one, with the kid Duros who everyone thinks could be Bane.
So this guy, who I am pretty sure is an Arcona, is in two separate scenes (the weird/triangular head alien).
THESE scenes:
These are also scenes in which we see an adult Bane.
Notice the architecture of this shot is the same as the one with the female Duros and the child.
THIS scene with Bane is toward the end of the trailer, where he is surrounded by police lights and there is a fire in the background. Therefore, this child cannot be Bane as he is IN the scenes where we see the kid and the Arcona.
You can also see him here in the background during Bane and Niro's showdown, which that building in Aurabesh reads "Police," so this could be that the child is hiding in the police station FROM Bane or the danger Bane is causing, or perhaps that is even the police officer's son.
Sidenote: JUST LOOK AT THEIR BUILDS! NIRO IS DEFINITELY OLDER! Bane looks like a TADPOLE compared to him.
Now, this line ...
Bane says this very calmly. He is not in his bounty hunter gear. He is not wearing his hat. It is obvious they are both younger here, and for him to deliver this line rationally makes me think it couldn't be something as near or dear to him as his family, otherwise they would already be guns blazing IMO-- but ALSO, what if that isn't the cop he's talking to?
Another thing I found interesting is this scene, which is the fire/arrest scene that I mentioned earlier. The moment Niro points, it shows this shot following after it:
I do not believe these scenes are connected however, specially since I notice that this little boy duros' shirt is the SAME SHIRT the child is wearing who is holding ONTO a Duros that COULD be Bane (a different child, not the one the female Duros is holding onto) and I think that because the outfits/collars are SO SIMILAR ... that child who is arrested is actually Niro. The cop.
That means of course that Niro turned himself around. Maybe there is more than two Duros here. Maybe there are multiples. At least three involved in this storyline ...
"I hope your revenge was worth it."
"It will be."
I am just fascinated by this because he uses future simple tense. Why is this revenge going to pay off in the future? What did Bane do that will affect this cop for days to come unless he's literally referring to the fact he just saved his own reputation by killing an impersonator ...
Finally, It all comes down to why does he say this? "You're going to pay for what you did." Maybe Niro broke up their little squad? Maybe he tossed him in jail? Hmm. Or maybe, again, he isn't speaking to Niro ..
The only scene that is out of place in the trailer is this mystery Duros who is not Bane's scale color, dressed like Bane and jumping over a fruit stand, which there is a Twi'lek shooting at him.
Sidenote #2: ALSO HE DOES NOT HAVE NIRO'S BUILD AT ALL! Unless this is FAARRRR in the past when Niro was young himself, but.... I doubt it. Just seems like someone else entirely to me??
This, as others have said, may tie into the Legends comic story of "Bane versus ... Bane?" which his "best friend" impersonates him to start a criminal organization back on Duro, and what's fascinating about that is what Wookieepedia says about Soopan:
Under his guise as Bane, Soopan became wanted by the local sheriff and, during the Clone Wars, the real Bane journeyed to Duro to track down his former associate.
THE LOCAL.... SHERIFF...
WHO REMAINS UNIDENTIFIED.
WHAT IF ... Niro isn't actually the "old friend" at all, and they KEEP SOOPAN?? AND THAT *IS* Soopan, just a redesign of his character who is jumping over the fruit stand, and this whole story is all tied together somehow. Because to me, he is a little bit of a different shade of green!
WHAT IF SOOPAN IS COMMITTING CRIMES UNDER BANE'S NAME AND THE COPPER IS AFTER BANE FOR SHIT HE DIDN'T DO?
WHAT IF HE WANTS SOOPAN TO "PAY FOR WHAT HE DID?"
WHAT IF THE "NOBODY HAS TO DIE" LINE IS BECAUSE SOOPAN IS IN JAIL AND BANE WANTS TO GO IN THERE AND KILL HIM??
WHAT IF HE DOES??? WHAT IF THAT IS WHY THE DAMN BUILDING IS ON FIRE AND HE ASKS IF IT WAS WORTH IT?!?!
Anyway, that was a lot of speculation, but also I feel like some of my detective work may be solid. I hope this has to do with breaking up a friendship, trying to steal his reputation, or double-crossing him somehow than anything to do with his mother, a lover, or Bane having his own kid. ^__^
