sorry not sorry for putting this in everyone's face, i was messing around with dubbing with a friend last night and ive replayed this thing surely more than a dozen times im making this everyone's problem LMAO
here r the posts i got these from:
why the knuckles prologue was perfect
( + my ramblings and analysis of his character as a whole ) in just six minutes, this short animation was able to show off each and every one of the main characteristics that make knuckles KNUCKLES. six minutes of phenomenal writing did arguably more than (without counting the movie, which did so much to restore honor and respect to our favorite echidna) two whole decades of being pushed to the sidelines, made into a punchline and pulled away from where he should be in the first place! and we start with the obvious: 1) HIS ROLE. KNUCKLES IS BACK ON DUTY, PERFORMING HIS FATED ROLE! he's guarding the master emerald and not only do we get to see him standing at the altar again, but we also get to see him introspecting about his responsibilities in a manner very reminiscent of his story mode cutscenes in sonic adventure (1998), yet building off from their foundation:
knuckles is tied to a responsibility without a clear reason, a fated one. he doesn't know the answers or the reasons behind why things are the way they are, only seeing things as objectively as possible because it's all he can truly be certain of; he's had to grow up accepting that no matter what, he will continue to stand guard by the emerald, because it's what he was chosen to do. he's alone in the present, as he always has been, and he's grown used to that independence. he prefers it over anyone's help or company, in fact. that doesn't mean that he doesn't question it, even while seemingly powerless in the face of his destiny. i think having knuckles reflect upon his duty is an excellent service to his character and a necessary one to really have the chosen one trope and its full potential shine. recent years have shown us countless fanon (and canon, thanks to SEGA!) misconstructions of knuckles as dumb, stupid and laughably clueless when that couldn't be further from the truth. he's ignorant, yes! naive and gullible and ignorant but only because of his years of isolation, clueless only because he lacks the knowledge as someone who's been, for the greater part of his existence, firmly dedicated to fulfilling his sacred task as a guardian to angel island. and there is a WORLD of difference here. his ignorance shouldn't conflict with his intelligence. his introspection shows just how much of a deep thinker he is, how curious he is by nature, being born into a land and a civilization enshrouded in mystery. with so much time to oneself, who WOULDN'T question the status quo? 2) KNUCKLES EXPLORING HIS OWN ISLAND! expert treasure hunter knuckles who, thanks to his curiosity and the endless hours of solitude confined to his island, is always seeking to learn more about his home. he's shown to be highly in touch with his surroundings, going above and beyond to perform as its guardian and gaining some knowledge along the way. he may not have all of the answers, but each day he knows more than the last. he's so familiar with angel island, while having so much in it left to uncover.
3) HIS EMPATHY. knuckles has ALWAYS been meant to be empathetic, driven by a heart of gold to help others fulfill their own goals in a very selfless manner and seeing the best in everyone, EVEN when they choose to act upon their worst. this is part of why he's tricked over and over by eggman! he can't deny someone in need a helping hand, and eggman, knowing this, takes advantage of him. he's one of the most selfless characters in the entire franchise, and his selflessness is once again put on the spotlight:
when he sees someone in distress, the empathy is written all over his expression! he's highly sensible to people's emotions and emotionally aware of them, perhaps more than he is of himself. he cares so much and so deeply about others! in spite of having nobody to care for him while he watches over angel island, he doesn't think twice about being there for everyone else.
his tenderness is more important than i can put into words. he's a sweetheart, through and through. power comes from the heart. and speaking of power... 4) HIS PHYSICAL STRENGTH. not only do we get a glimpse of his mind and his heart, but the power of his fists. the rough, brash, badass knuckles we all know and love is BACK full force, and this short makes sure to highlight once more, right along with his mental fortitude and the force of his kindness, just how STRONG he is on a physical level:
these images speak for themselves. knuckles means BUSINESS. and his fists are NOT to be meddled with! he is NOT here to be underestimated! he breaks off a significantly large portion of a CLIFF with just one punch. this fight scene was AMAZINGLY choreographed, 100% serious knuckles, rougher than the rest of them and hard as nails as he always has been. this side of him shouldn't conflict with his introspective side, his inquisitive spirit or his golden heart—they are ALL essential parts of him that can and should exist in TANDEM. exaggerating one or another would be unfair to representing his truest form. a big part of knuckles' character is about keeping things balanced, outside of himself as well as within, and though his temper can flare when provoked, though he can be impulsive and ruthless, he is just as calm and collected and merciful. and if you ask me? this short achieved just that. it struck a PERFECT balance between these traits and in doing so gave us such a careful and true picture of knuckles being knuckles. i hope that frontiers will be the start of a new era of sonic fans, old and new alike, appreciating knuckles' character like he deserves to be appreciated, starring in all of his glory and developing beyond the broken image of him that many people were left with for far too long.
to everyone who worked on this animated short, you have my highest kudos and respect—with just one week before the release of this game and such stellar writing on display ALREADY?, i have such high hopes that this story will deliver something great.
Movie Amy Rose , by someone who has only ever seen the movies, fanart, and three video essays:
What do I know about Amy? She's a bubbly, cute, adventure seeking, Sonic obsessed, tarro card wielding hedgehog of bright pink proportions. She often gets left behind, but is determined to prove herself and protect her friends. Adorable as she is, her hammer isnt and she isn't afraid to use it. While her friends are caught up in saving the world, she's there to take care of the little guys on the ground and doesn't lose sight of who their fighting for. Her mystical tarro cards are what brought her to Sonic, and since then she's been his number one fan, harboring a not so subtle crush on the blue blur. She's a talented cook/ baker who wants to open her own bakery someday. There's some theories (canon? I'm not sure) of her being able to sense Chaos energy, which is how she always knows where to find Sonic.
All around a very bright character who I think has a lot of potential in the Movie Universe.
First off, how would she join the team? Most likely she'll have heard about the epic Robotnic fight and how Sonic used the Master Emerald to save his family. In awe, she travels to earth to meet this hero. The idea I like better is that she (assuming she CAN sense Chaos energy) gets massive signals from earth due to Super Sonic and comes to investigate. This would immediately establish her as a determined, thrill seeking girl looking for adventure and would play into her wanting to join Sonic. Seeing Sonic as a means of adventure from a presumably boring life would explain her fast and furious crush on him
Whether or not she'll be well received is difficult to say. Movie Sonic seems a little less brass than game Sonic, so will probably try not to be rude or ditch her, but since her being left behind seems an important staple of her early character, it's not something the writers can completely cut. What's more likely is that Sonic won't be confident in her ability to take care of herself and would want her to stay behind for safety.
Her role may partially be a "prove yourself" sort of deal where she, having been left behind while Team Sonic deals with Shadow, strikes out on her own, determined to help and be apart of the story. After all, she came for adventure and to help Sonic, and is going to do so whether he likes it or not. In doing her own thing to help the conflict, she proves herself a valuable member of the team.
While she could do that by going in and kicking butt in a fight, it'd be cool if they drew on another major part of her character: taking care of the people that get overlooked when the world ends. I believe she helps this little floaty thing escape capture and reunites it with its family in one of the early games, even though she didn't have to and doing so put her in danger. This willingness to help others turns especially useful in-game as she talks Shadow into helping. Her playing a similar role in the movie would be a fantastic way to show her strength and value as a character while staying true to her established traits. It's shows the power of compassion and empathy and how a kind gesture can win a war punching can't.
This kind of character is very important for the team as they really come into their own as heros. Just like Tom learns that protecting his friends and family means more to him than proving himself as a big city cop, Amy serves as a reminder that taking care of those "little guys" is why they're fighting evil. Not forgetting the friends they're defending while they fight bigger and bigger foes will fit nicely into the established themes of family in the Sonic cinematic universe.
As far as representation goes, I think she has the potential to be a fanstatic role model for girls if the writing team does her character justice. Showing girls female characters who don't need no man and can take care of themselves is important, but so is showing all the other unique types of women out there and how each are strong and capable. Though I am Down to see Amy play whack-a-hoe with her hammer, keeping her character's strength in kindness and compassion (and the value that has on the plot, team, and characters) is infinitely more impactful. She's a perfect character for SEGA to demonstrate how a strong female character doesn't have to be a cut throat drill Sargent at all times, and that great power lies in a helping hand.
Apart from a gentler approach in character, I'd be thrilled if they kept her girly in appearance and speech like she is in the game. Love seeing characters decked all out in ribbons and bows while carrying massive hammers that make Thor cry.
Though I didn't grow up with this character, I have high hopes for seeing how she grows into an amazing on screen girlboss. The writers have done an amazing job of doing right by Tails and Knuckles, completely rectifing the recent decline in quality from some Sonic games. Saving those two allows me to put faith in them that they'll take care of Amy the same way and won't reduce her to a background character at best, annoying Sonic fan girl at worst.
Amy Rose has so much potential to be a unique and compelling character who can add so much to the team and story. With any luck we'll have this amazing girl back in business by the time Sonic 3 is half way through.
This is ALL opinion, and I'd love to hear yours!! Obviously I've never edited played the classic games, but she's a character who caught my attention when I entered the fandom and one who I can't wait to see on the big screen!
Shit I've made while bored.

Sonic textposts I made while I was bored out of my mind.
one thing i found interesting and worth noting in comparing the official english translation of the knuckles prologue with the japanese one is that he says "perhaps... it's karma", but in the jp version, he says "shukumei" (宿命) instead, which translates lit. to fate, destiny or predestination. depending on which word choice you go with, you can take two slightly different but equally fascinating interpretations here.
Hello, sorry for bothering you, but do you have any sny headcanons for how the Sonic characters would interact with an autistic character? (Sonic, Knuckles, etc.)
hello hello! thanks for the ask! hmmmmmmmm • tails would be really supportive of people's special interests! he'd love to listen and learn about new things, and he can resonate a lot with seeing someone be passionate about something, no matter what that might be or how "strange" or "out of the norm" it may be considered by others (think tails' backstory). the last thing he wants is for anyone to feel like they matter less for caring about what makes them happy. he'd encourage any and all rambling and chip in too! if there's anything he can do to help fuel someone's hobby, such as providing materials or tools, or making up a small gadget to aid with it, he'd be in full disposition to do so. he'd want to do everything possible with his skills in terms of accessibility, i.e. sensory, and with information by doing research on and helping the character's and his own friends to better understand autism • knuckles is good at listening for the needs of others and he has a great deal of patience, so i think he'd be very understanding of how nonverbal communication works, and i know he'd be great to just sit in silence with. he's no stranger to taking things literally or missing social cues that should seem "obvious" so he'd make sure that nobody has to go through unnecessary confusion and call out anyone who gives you a hard time with that. he'd try to gently steer the character away from self-harm, i.e. by giving alternatives to release that anxiety or create a more soothing environment. he'd be pretty concerned at first and i think it'd take him a bit to know exactly what to do but he's a fast learner • i bet sonic would be great with leading stimming sessions or joining in them, routines with lots of high energy and movement! he'd gladly accompany the character on a jog or shake his hands along with them (think sonic advance idle sprite animation where he does exactly this and also stretches his legs). he definitely won't be one to judge • i don't feel as confident in my understanding of shadow's character yet but i have a feeling he'd be surprisingly good at dealing with meltdowns. don't ask how it's just a gut feeling based on what little i've seen of him • espio + breathing exercises! that is all. also charmy bee would be the best drawing partner if they're an artist, he loves to draw
sorry i don't have too many thoughts on this but it was fun to think about! i hope that these were helpful to answer your question, anon. i tried to focus on ways of interacting that align with autism-specific experiences though ultimately the characters would treat a character with autism with the same respect as anyone else • bonus: amy smashes ableist folks with her hammer
