Been thinkinâ about how long it took Sonic to call Tom his dad, and how it probably took him longer to call Maddie his mom. Because the first caretaker he can remember having was Longclaw.
He didnât call her âmomâ or âmotherâ or anything similar. He just called her Longclaw, and she called him Sonic. They lived alone, secluded, so Sonic wouldnât have seen other families either to ask about whatever family structure the two shared.
But when he got to Earth and started watching â movies, tv shows, the whole town â he definitely wouldâve noticed. He wouldâve heard kids call for their mom, and seen little boys run up to their mothers with something they wanted to show them or a surprise gift. He couldâve been reminded of how he went out to find that sunflower just for Longclaw. He couldâve seen mothers hug their children and remembered the way Longclaw would wrap her wings around him.
The first caretaker he can remember having was Longclaw. He didnât call her mom, but he knows that was her role.
And she died. For him.
So yeah, I imagine that Sonic has a hard time calling Maddie his mom.

Somewhere inbetween the continents of Yurashia and North Amer, lies the Acorn Archipelago, named after the first modern royal family and kingdom of the chain. There are quite a few islands in the Archipelago, but, for now, only a few of them are really important.
First, Westside Island, which held the Kingdom of Acorn, and was the seat of the Acorn Royal Family for some time. The most recent king being King Maximillian Acorn, considered by many on Westside to be the best king they've ever had. There are rumors about him having had a son, but, so far, its seemed like he's only had the one daughter, Sally. At least, to the public, anyway...
Second is Eastside Island, home to the Kingdom of Christmas, descendants of immigrants that came from a place known as Christmas Island. Ruled by Queen Aleena, with her wife Bernadette helping her with things, Christmas Kingdom, despite having a royal guard, could have been considered quite possibly the most peaceful kingdom in the Archipelago, if not the entire world. Sure, Aleena and Bernadette have had to deal with their three somewhat energetic(And argumentative triplets), but, hey, one could consider parenthood both a blessing and job, right?
Third? South Island. While not many have gone there in the past, those who have have talked about a dangerous island, frought with danger, and ancient ruins that carry quite a few traps, and was possibly once inhabited by a warlike bird tribe, before something happened to them. However, despite the lack of visitors, there are those who note that the island is packed with resources, ripe for the taking for those who can conquer the dangers.
And, then, there's Bygone Island. Located pretty far out of the way from the rest of the Archipelago, Bygone Island has...Quite the characters living on them. Either you love them, or you hate them, and, by golly, some both love and hate them. Most everyone on this island is pretty darn quirky, and, quite possibly missing a few brain cells as well...Or they're just different, either or. It can be a decent vacation spot, if you can handle the people, and, has even served as a diplomatic neutral meeting spot between the Acorn and Christmas kingdoms on occasion...
While the Acorn Kingdom and Christmas Kingdom have had their disagreements in the past, they have been become fast friends, due to the current generation of monarchs in both kingdoms. Although, they still have had disagreements about certain things, but, for the most part, they have been pretty dang peaceful with each other.
Although, unbeknownst to them, interested parties in the world outside of the archipelago have been waiting...One in particular for his chance to prove himself and his ideology to the rest of the world.
