Which Ace Attorney character do you think was handled the worst when it comes to writing?
By canon, or by the fandom?
Canonically, I'd have to go with Maggey Byrde. She exists as someone to ship Gumshoe with and little else, and she kept coming back. You could change the investigations case she was in to be literally anyone, and past defendants would work just as well, if not better, for Recipe for Turnabout.
How can you make a character have Nagito level abilities of bad luck, and never have it mentioned again in her future appearances.
Larry Butz also got hit with the flanderization beam pretty bad, but at least he has a narrative purpose, you know?
Fandom would be literally any female character expect maybe Dahlia, but I'd have to pick Maya.
She has as much trauma, maybe more, than Edgeworth. She lost literally everyone close to her but Pearl. She was raised in an abusive household, and abandoned by her sister, who she thought would be there for her. The only constants in her life are food and a TV show. Her arc ends in tragedy, and her basically becoming what Morgan expected Mia to be and resented her for.
She is so much more than Phoenix's little girl sidekick. And infantilizing her leaves such a bad taste in my mouth, when so much of her arc is about her wanting to be independent.
