Summary: Inspired by Beyoncé’s “XO”.
The grip on your hand is as soft as the grass beneath your feet, the wind around you embracing you in its cool arms as Hyunjin and you run through the field.
Fragments of neon illuminate his skin, his eyes wide and beaming at the countless stalls that line the field. As he turns to you, his smile is as colorful as the neon lights in his eyes, bright and beautiful.
“Come on! We’re almost there!”
Hyunjin laughs, tugging your hand a little so you can run next to him, slowing his pace to match yours. Mirroring his bright smile, you can only grip his hand tighter.
Cheap glow sticks illuminating your intertwined hands seem to make everything pass by in slow motion, their bright neon drawing shapes in the darkness as you both run.
I search through the crowd.
One wrong step and your hands are severed, people around you pushing in between you both. One light becomes two, glow sticks no longer a beacon, but just a light amongst other bright lights. The sudden separation stops all your senses, body freezing for just a second as your mind tries to catch up.
The sudden flurry of people that separate you an Hyunjin has you confused, your footing not quite right as you try to reach him, making out his bouncing fluff of hair. But any sight of him is gone when another wrong step sends you to the floor, your body reacting instinctively as your knees cop the brunt of the fall.
Not even a mouse spares a glance at you as you quickly push yourself up, stinging knees and all. Brushing them off, your body snaps up at the sound of your name being called.
“Y/N! Are you alright?!”
Hyunjin is in front of you in an instant, hands on your shoulder as he scans you over for any other signs of physical injury, eyes locking back onto yours when he deems you okay.
You nod, a light smile forming onto your features. “I’m fine Hyunjin.”
He nods, pressing his hand into yours and interlacing your fingers.
“Come on. I won’t let you go this time, I’ll make sure of it.”
And with that, your back into the rush of everything, pushing through the crowd as you near the Ferris Wheel.
You face is all that I see.
Looking back at you, his smile seems to be much brighter then the neon lights that cascade you both in a warm glow.
You’re captivated the instant you lock eyes, even just for that second, how his feature seem to look perfect even under the pale moon and the shower of glowing lights.
The sound of doors closing behind you brings you back into reality, seeing that your finally standing in the carriage you’d been running to. As the ride starts up, the shake of the ascending carriage sees you quickly grabbing your boyfriend for support, a squeak of excitement and nervousness leaving you.
But he only laughs at you, eyes squishing into moons as he looks down at you, hands already around your waist to hold you steady.
Looking up at him, you can’t help but smile, the beautiful view outside not quite as appealing as the one that now stands in front of you.
I’ll give you everything.
Your not so sure whether it’s the carnival atmosphere, or the endless amounts of fairy floss you’d consumed, but this seemed to be the precious moment you’d been anticipating. As you gaze up at him, it suddenly becomes clear, that your filled with such a content when you have simple moments such as this. That content clarity is one you know will last for a lifetime. Somehow, you realize that you truly do love his for true loves sake only.
“Hey,” he whispers, only a few inches from your face. “I love you.”
Your nose crinkles in delight, cheeks turning a light shade of pink as you press a quick kiss to his lips.
Tugging you closer, he pulls you into another kiss, this one being longer and more longing then the previous.
“Y/N,” he breaths, eyes opening as you two part.
Hands slipping from your waist, he fumbles with his coat pocket, pulling out an object that shines brighter then any smile or light.
The simple ring is enough to send your heart into a frenzy, body melting in an instant.
He seems to be a little nervous, biting his lip as he smiles at you.
“Now, this isn’t a proposal, but a promise.”
You can only nod at his words, an indication for him to keep going. You notice his hands tremble slightly. Hyunjin rarely got nervous for just any reason.
“Now, this promise ring,” he starts, eyes wandering from the ring between his fingers to the view of the city outside, finally landing on you in a nervous frenzy.
“It’s not just a promise of my love to you, but a promise that I want to spend the rest of my life with you. A promise that one day I will be able to fulfill that promise to you.”
You can only smile, reaching up to capture him in a sincere hug that speaks for itself.
With shaky fingers, he slips the ring onto your middle finger, a nervous laugh escaping him as he holds you in his arms.
So as the carnival beneath you both fades into darkness for the night, you two seem to be your own neon lights, illuminating the carriage in a pale light that speaks more then the neon lights once did.
The night wanders on, but you two do not stray from each other, simply watching as the city shuts off for the night, starting with the carnival lights, then the building lights as you two walk through the quiet streets of Seoul, hand in hand.
Pressing your body into his, you can’t help but steal a quick kiss, illuminated by none other then the blazing blue letters of the “JYP” building.
“I don’t want this night to end.” You whisper, looking up at the building you’d come to know all too well.
“Then don’t let it.”
Your gaze snaps back in an instant, features crossing into confusion.
“Stay the night. The boys won’t mind.”
Hyunjin whispers, eyes searching yours as he too is desperate for the night to just continue forever.
“You’re sure?” You ask cautiously, eyebrows raised in question.
He simply nods, intertwining your fingers to pull you inside the building, glow sticks still illuminating your hands as you two walk in.
You can turn my lights out.
