@narutorarepairjune - Day 26 Prompt: Merpeople/Merfolk AU - [Shino x Tenten]

AU where, during the ‘Kaima Capture Mission’ Anko, Shino, Ino and Naruto are sent to the Land of the Sea because, instead of a monster terrorising fishing boats, they are sent to go backup Team Gai in looking over Orochimaru’s hideout because they haven’t checked in!

“I’m so glad we found yo-what the hell happened?!”

“Don’t start Ino!”

Tenten swished her tail, her tail, angrily at the newcomers before pointing a finger at her happy as Larry teammate. “It’s all Lee’s fault! He touched something and then we-” she gestured down to herself, scaly tail and all. “-We were this!”

“But you must leave,” Neji spoke up from another of the glass containers, no tail in sight but a strange growth around his neck that looked like moss. “The hideout is not abandoned, it is-”

“Don’t worry about it Hyuga!” Anko spoke up with a proud of herself grin. “Already taken care of.”

“Wow Lee!” Naruto yelled running up to be in front of the taijutsu users giant glass container. “You look pretty!”

“Do I not just friend Naruto?!” Lee happily looked down at the many brightly coloured underwater plants growing on him. “They are most delightful!”

“What’s that stuff on your neck?” Ino asked when she came to stand in front of Neji’s glass jar, pointing at the green encircling his neck. “And why are you all in those tubes?”

“Guards from the hideout ambushed us and threw us in here. I do not know what this thing is, but I cannot breathe outside of water because of it!”

The Yamanaka bounced on the spot with a small clap.

“Don’t worry! I have an idea!”

The female blonde took a small vial out of her bag that contained a teal-coloured thick liquid. 

Naruto leaned into her personal space to get a closer look. “What’s that?”

“Half chakra, half flower medicine, all brilliant! If whatever this is if it’s a weak jutsu this should shake it off!”

Neji didn’t look convinced but was in no position to deny help. “I will try anything to get on solid land again.”

Ino pulled herself up the outside of the tube and poured a large amount into the water around the Hyuga and the liquid attached itself to his neck like it was attacking it. After a few seconds, the green plant was gone and Neji was breathing clean air half slumped over the lip of the glass.

“Hey it worked!”

Neji looked beyond relieved. “Now help me out of this thing.”

Tenten threw herself to the side of her container looking hopeful.

“Please tell me you have more of that stuff Ino.”

“I do!” Ino took out two more bottles handing one to each of her teammates. “Naruto pour this in Lee’s container as well. Shino give this to Tenten.”

The Aburame took the bottle as instructed and headed over to the bun haired girl.

As strange as the situation was, the insect tamer felt almost compelled to place his hands on the glass and take in her temporary new form.

Her tail was a light rose pink colour decorated with darker magenta pink scales, it was sensational to see in real life and not as a painting in a book.

When Tenten dipped down and placed her own hands on the glass he automatically moved his own to be as close to over hers as possible.

“Get me out of here Shino.”

“Are you like the others? Can you not; breathe; unless in water?”

She shook her head and the way the water slowed her chocolate locks movements was strangely hypnotic to him. 

“No, I can I just-” the weapons mistress looked behind her and gave a lazy movement of her tail before turning back to him with an awkward smile. “-Can’t get very far.”

“Please,” he stepped back and raised his hands. “Allow me.”

His hive left him to rise up into the air and into the container after the bun haired girl and he actually heard her release a taken back sound when his hive lifted her out of the tube. The Aburame lowered himself to kneel on the floor to receive her, his hive gently setting her in his arms.

“Oh, it feels great to be out of that thing!” Tenten turned to beam at him, a pure and thankful expression. “Thank you, Shino!”

The Aburame heir had expected her to be cold from the water and while her skin was indeed damp to the touch, she was still incredibly warm, it confused him.

She blinked up at him. “Shino?”

“Bug boy!” At Anko’s yell he jumped in his skin. “Hurry up, will you?”

Shino stared back down into Tenten’s confused face before speaking lowly.

“Tenten; I hope you do not mind me saying; but I think you make a very; pretty; mermaid.”

The weapons mistress’s jaw dropped and Anko released a short bark of laughter.

“That’s great Romeo but I kind of meant hurry up and give her the miracle potion so we can get out of here.”

“Oh yes; of course.”
