Human spirit this human spirit that—let me tell you the most memorable and impactful movie theatre experiences of my life and why it was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem (2023)

I waited a few weeks and just went by myself, and it was me and 10 other people in the theatre.

3 preteen boys

4 younger teens, 2 boys and 2 girls

and 2 grandparents with their grandson, who dressed up as Michelangelo

The preteens sat in the row in front of me, and before the previews were even over they were squished together in the same two recliner seats, and one of them looked up to see if they were blocking my view before sitting back down

The teens were in the far corner, apparently having met up for one of their birthdays

And the grandparents and grandson were down closer to the screen

It was already a fun movie and pretty good humor but what got me was the end when we all got up to leave (I was the last one) and every single one of those kids stopped and complimented the little boy's costume and he was so excited and happy and even told me he was gonna be Mikey for Halloween

And I'd been having a rough month and my pain was flaring something awful and my friends and I were fighting, and I left that theatre sobbing because it is so easy to be cruel or dismissive, and people shit on teenagers and preteens all the time but they have so much heart too
