Cole being out for weeks, drifting in and out of consciousness and sometimes he's sure he does see Zane by his side; sometimes holding a cool flannel to his head, other times he's coaxing him up to take a drink and eat a little but he always drifts back into unconsciousness and more days just pass. He just knows he's safe, because it's Zane there with him.

At least until he actually wakes up properly, his mind is foggy and at first he sees Zane and he's just happy because he may not remember what had happened but if he's sick but he's not on his own then how bad could he be?

Until everything that had taken place comes crashing back, all whilst Zane is beside him and helping him sit up in bed. Obviously, the warrented reaction to remembering your boyfriend being possessed by the Overlord is to put space between them and figure out how he got into the situation he was in.

So he shuffled back on the bed, the blood draining from his face as his mind swims at the rapid movement, threatening to throw him back into unconsciousness.

Until he focuses on Zane's face, and this time actually sees Zane there. His brow his furrowed with concern but understanding at Cole's reaction. But it's Zane.

There's a tearful albeit confused reunion.

Until Zane's expression drops, his attention almost going inwards as if something in his mind has caught his attention. Then he steps back quickly, distancing himself from Cole's bed and he just starts mumbling, hands coming up to his head, covering his ears and his eyes slipping shut. Outwardly he seems to be talking to no one but it doesn't take a genius to know its actually the Overlord. Cole can't see him, but Zane can. He can hear him and he's so loud.

Then Zane flinches, in pain nearly, then his eyes snap open and they flare pink. His mouth twists into a grin and maybe he's dressed like Zane, but it's not him stood in his body. Cole can tell in a second who's staring back at him.

Then a golden fog drifts down the Overlord's body, and in its place is the golden armour and cape flicking out, only having been hidden by a minor illusion.

This is the Overlord Cole knows, but he can barely look past the fact that it's Zane. Though now Cole knows that Zane is in there and somehow, he's had control. He may have lost it again, but he'd been aware.

A very self-indulgent AU in which Cole has been the Overlord’s host since he was a child. Because yes.

Because the Overlord has been residing in Cole as Cole has grown, the Overlord has been able to shape Cole as it pleases, cutting out unnecessary emotions like anger or discontent. So Cole cannot feel any kind of discontent with his situation. The Overlord can also shape Cole’s body as it needs, because ~body horror~

I'm really glad that you like the AU!! It means a load, and I'm actually still shocked so many people are just like "That idea, I like it!" when there are so many other amazing AUs on this site! It gives me the warm and fuzzies.

As for ideas/details I haven't shared, hmmm--

This is just aore general observation, but looking back on the way I first drew OverKing Zane, I sometimes find myself wishing I'd given him more armour? I mean, don't get me wrong, I love how his design turned out! I do have times when I look at it and go "BRO, I drew that?? Sounds fake, but alright." and I love the fact that overall his outfit is simplistic and it's still very clearly "Overlord" looking, but I do like the Golden Armour so I sorta wished that I'd added more armour to him. Maybe in the future? 😂

But actual ideas about the AU? Oh man, that's a question.

The final battle, as it should be, will solely be a fight between Lloyd and Zane. Sure, Kai, Jay, Cole, Nya and everyone else will be there but ultimately there's only so much they can do to help. They can try and help, try and jump in but overall their input wouldn't make that much of a difference. The battle begun with light and dark and that's how it's going to end.
