it's not impossible for normal snacking foods to exist in the kotlc universe, but they're unlikely to ever be mentioned if they're less exciting than a fusion of cookies and cake and ice cream into a single piece of candy. It's not as exciting, though it is more realistic. ork once or twice, but it's also possible that was just her bringing up Sophie's dinner, because I do know that's happened a couple times.

But aside from their actual meals (a lot of which is goopy plant matter, which doesn't sound particularly appealing) I don't recall any snack foods. Everything they eat casually is usually a new introduction of something for Sophie, and a lot of the times that's a sweet. That's where we got all of the recipes! Shannon shared that recipe for mallowmelt hot chocolate the other day and I was at the grocery store this morning and it was...very tempting to grab the ingredients to make it. I did not, but I almost did.

okay i just checked Unlocked to see which foods Shannon included in that section, and so many of them are sweets. Butterblasts and Mallowmelt and all that. The only other things are starkflower stew (not a snack) and lushberries (a fruit), so no casual snacking foods like crackers or chips.

I wonder if the focus on sweets in the elven world is a product of Shannon's own love for cupcakes or a way to appeal to the children the book is meant for. I'd guess a combination of both, but who knows! Shannon, as a self proclaimed cupcake addict, loves baking and sweets and seeing as this is her world and we're just dissecting it, may include these foods as a focus because they're what she likes. And they give her reasons to make new recipes. On top of that, this was supposed to be written like a paradise, a perfect world that kids would want to go to--it's become progressively more broken, but that doesn't change the fact that perfection was it's original selling point. For kids, a paradise would probably have a lot of sweets! A bunch of different candies and sugary foods are more appealing than crackers, probably.

So to answer your question: for us, they'll be living on candy and goop for the rest of the series! I doubt we'll ever get to see other cuisine, even if it does exist.
