Lakh PA was miraculously rescued from under an avalanche when he was barely 3 months old. A monk renamed him ApA which means loved by all. Apa Sherpa, in full Lhakpa Tenzing Sherpa, Apa also spelled Appa, (born c. 1960, Thami, Nepal), Nepali mountaineer and guide who set a record for most ascents of Mount Everest (21) that was later equaled by other Sherpas before being surpassed in 2018.
