The flying electric sparks, innocently leaping from those cables like children in the waves, leaping onto those dried-out logs, dessicated grasses that used up all moisture in the drought. The orange flames leapt up and spread, running down the hills like glowing lava, noxious dark smoke billowing into the air, flying half-burnt embers beating on windshields, trembling hands recording the screaming spectacle normally reserved for summertime. Â The rains will come, but the burnt soil threatens to give way to flowing rivers of mud; the strange polarizations of Mother Nature, apparently unable to take the moderate approach.
