THE MUSCLES AROUND HER EYES TIGHTENED, her fingers twitching in an old habit, wanting to curl up into her palms, the crescents of pain when she pressed hard enough a distraction from whatever forbidden feeling was rising in her. It always took her a second to remember she didn’t need to do it any longer, hadn’t for years, and so she straightened her fingers once more, looking down at the floor before forcing out the breath she had taken.
“Of course,” she said, hoping the lift of her lips did not look too wrong. “How can I help?”
Elsa was not blind. Even away in the forest she could hear the rumblings. It was part of the reason she had not returned for weeks, despite the attempts of at least three spirits to pull her back -- sometimes physically. Gale was hard to fight against. But she had done it to remain at her sister’s side. Her queen was of need of her -- wasn’t this the exact oath she had once made? And so whatever violence she had to commit in order to keep their kingdom safe, she would do it.
