I told my neighbour my 'solar oven' plans and she roasted me to death. She made fun of me for the rest of the conversation, and told me to invite her over when 'the soup' is done. She made it clear she thinks the soup will be fictional.
I've been laughing at her determination, of course I'll still try to make the solar oven. I don't know whether it will work, but no harm in trying it!

I've gotten this info from watching youtube videos of people living without technology and also an article said it could be done. The instructions go like this: Get a box, remove upper flaps, and wrap the insides in aluminum foil. Then grab a black pot, fill with water, put in the aluminium box. Cover the top with glass.
The point is to amplify the heat of the sun first with the glass, then with it being reflected many times into the black pot. The box will be closed so the heat inside has nowhere to go and will only accumulate. Article said, half hour to boil if it's sunny. Try at noon.
I was gonna buy the aluminium foil today but then it costed more than I expected, so I didn't get it. I have a little bag of used aluminium scraps, and if thats not enough, I'll find that reflective christmas wrapping paper and try that. We're working with trash materials. It costs me nothing to try, we're about to enter a heat wave anyway, so temps will be 35+ outside.
Can the solar box boil water on a hot sunny day?
