I haven’t been posting much because I’m working three part-time jobs right now. No sooner had I started cleaning motel rooms to supplement my Etsy/farmers market income than my employer from the previous summer called me up, asking for seamstress help.
Everything about this job is Zen as fuck and I love it. I jam out to my tunes all by myself in the attic of an old farmhouse, sewing on a vintage Bernina: the thoroughbred of sewing machines. I wear whatever I want and go around in bare feet. All my coworkers are chill working-class ladies (a refreshing break from toiling in male-dominated industries). I even love my commute: a half-hour drive over a mountain that is brimming with glorious Vermont scenery, including the famous foliage. Today I even saw my first moose. And the town I work in is cute as shit. I sit on a porch swing to eat my lunch and then walk around the big village green under beautiful mature oaks. It’s the stuff dreams are made of.
When the end of this 10 day stretch is over I will have worked a total of 52 hours. That’s a lot, for me. It’s always a challenge to find the right balance. But since I spent all winter essentially unemployed, I’m gonna make hay while the sun shines. Thankfully I have spent a lot of time carefully structuring my life to accommodate these feast-or-famine stretches. More on that in a future post.
