Creating new sounds is not hard to do.  You can easily run your fingernails across a chalkboard and you’ll end up with a nice unpleasant sound that hurts your ears.  Sound is all around us and there are many things that vibrate that result in sound.  Of course, there is a fine line between noise and sound, and finding or creating a good sound takes effort rather than luck.  Could the chalkboard scratching sound ever be tuned into something our ears will like?  Maybe not, but we have the tools to work towards that.  Synthesizers usually come with their own select instruments – but as it turns out these sounds were something that had to be found and manufactured.  These sounds were developed from noise at its most basic root.
