"Old clothes"
"Old clothes"
Logan Howlett
I want to tell Mr. Hugh Jackman how many trans people actually admire his looks and aren't hyper-sexualizing him. So I wanted to write a cute little fanfic. Also, I need this for my own comfort.
I don't headcannon Logan being trans, but I do like that headcannon. This fanfic is heavily influenced by my headcannons and myself.
This fanfic uses they/them pronouns instead of you/yours.
Summary: Logan gives some of his old clothes to a trans kid. When I say kid, I also mean a young adult

A lot of trans people want to look like Logan. He knows this and fucking cherishes it. It's his favourite fact. And you know he's bragging about it. He says things like, "You know I'm hot when all the trans guys wanna look like me." all the damn time.
He loves all the trans kids in the mansion, actually. He's the best person to go to because he's the most supportive. He's even made his classroom a very safe space for queer kids.
He doesn't let any bigotry fly in the mansion. So, if he sees or hears about a student bullying another student, he's taking care of it immediately. The mansion is already a pretty safe place because most of the X-Men are queer and isn't being a safe place, their whole gimmick?
He'll be one of the first people to talk to someone when they come out. He's making sure EVERYONE is getting their pronouns right and they feel comfortable.
He's got a very soft spot for all the kids in the mansion, actually. He's always doing favours for them, like driving them around. When one of the kids comes out he'll offer to take them clothes shopping, get a haircut, binder, make up. Anything they want to feel like their true self.
But when he hears when a kid wants to look like him? He's giving them a lot of his old clothes. You'd think he'd run out by this point.
He just heard another kid came out and wants to look like him, by one of the teachers. So, he's walking through the mansion, trying to find them. They're talking to a couple other teens in some random room. Their back is turned to the door so they haven't noticed him come in, while the other teens have.
They've definitely got his look down. A flannel, with some jeans and a bulky belt, fluffy hair that covers their eyes with those iconic cat ears.
"So, you wanna look like me, huh?" His voice startles them. They turn around to see who that voice belongs to. They feel embarrassed as hell when they realize. They always wanted to meet him but not like this! Not when they're dressed like him. They pat down their hair, trying desperately to smooth down those damn ears. "Is it that obvious!?" they quickly say.
"Yea, you've got the look completely down." He sighs softly as they keep messing with their hair. He knows what they're trying to do. He lightly ruffles their hair. "You're doing it wrong. They're supposed to stick up more." Ok, there's no trying to hide they want to look like him. Their shoulders slump in defeat. What are they supposed to say now that they've met their idol and he can obviously see how much they like him?
"So I heard you're trans." His voice is gentle, trying to help soothe them.
"Nonbinary, actually. But yeah."
"So they/them pronouns?" Logan asks, getting their pronouns right.
"For now, anyway. Until I figure it out."
"And your name? I think you already know I'm Logan."
"Y/n is fine."
The other teens have already disparted, leaving the two to talk. Logan crosses his arms and leans against a table as he looks over them, silently repeating their name in his head so he can remember it. They seem kinda emo. He's thinking about what old clothes he has that'll match their style. He's got quite a few dark flannels. "Ya need any more clothes so ya look like me?"
Their brows furrow. Where the hell is this heading? Is he trying to make fun of them? He doesn't have that teasing edge to his voice. It's very soft and gentle right now.
"Wh- what?" Is all they can manage to mumble out. Who wouldn't be flustered around their idol? Let alone someone this handsome.
He can't help but chuckle softly. God they're so awkward and shy. He's trying his damned hardest to keep his teasing at bay. "I've got some old clothes ya can have. If you're interested."
Now that gets their attention. "Wait seriously? You don't even know me and you're going to give me some clothes?" They're star-struck. Could you imagine walking around in the Wolverine's clothes? The bragging rights!?
Another soft laugh leaves his lips. "I give most of the trans kids some of my old clothes. Did you really not know that?"
Did he really just ask that? He's literally talking to a shy little emo. "I don't... Really talk to people." They sigh when they admit that. Could they sound any more like a loser? Great... Just how they wanted their first impression to be.
Logan makes a mental note to find some kids they can talk to. "So ya gonna take the offer or nah?"
"I'll take it." They say quickly before he can change his mind. He's already left the room and is making his way down the hall. "Wait, you mean now!?"
He looks over his shoulder, slowing down just a little so they can catch up. They stumble over themselves as they try to catch up. There's a shitload of thoughts running through their head. Of course they're stumbling over themselves.
"So uuuuh...." They start awkwardly. "Is anything even going to fit me?"
He looks over them. They're much shorter than him. An amused sound leaves his lips. "Probably not. Doesn't stop anyone else from wearing my shit."
They're already imagining themselves in his clothes. All the flannels! So many damn flannels. A baggy flannel is fine, but other clothes, maybe not so much. "Baggy clothes seems to be a style, though. I mean, they'd still probably be huge on me."
"I'm sure you'll work somewhere out." They make it to his room in the mansion and he swings the door open. "Make yourself at home."
They take a step into the door and not a single step more. Their shoulders are tense and they're fidgeting with their hands as they just stand there. Ok, so they're the anxious type. Logan can totally handle this.... Right? He sure as hell hopes so.
He sighs heavily and gestures to the bed. "Sit." His voice isn't authoritative, mostly gentle, but it's enough to give them that slight push. They stand there for a minute more before sitting on the very edge of the bed.
They slowly look around his room. The lights have a nice warm orange glow to them. With heightened senses, Logan gets lots of sensory overload. So, yeah, lots of low lighting. Perfect. It's got a cozy, kinda rustic feel for it. It makes them feel more at ease here.
Logan is rummaging through the back of his closet. Where the hell did all these clothes come from? It's like they never end. Whatever he doesn't wear is in the way back.
The sight of him is pretty amusing. He's completely stretched, trying to reach the back. All that's visible are his legs. He's got one foot off the ground as he reaches for the back.
With a heavy, slightly strained breath, he pulls some shirts out from the back and tosses them on the bed. "How's those?" There are mostly dark flannels like blacks and greys, and some dark green. They riffle through them. “Wait! These are actually perfect! Wait, wait… I have the perfect outfit for this one!” They exclaim happily while holding up an old worn out grey flannel. Logan leans against the wall by his closet. “Then try it on.” They look over the flannel again before standing up and taking their current one off. They slip the grey one on and cover their face in embarrassment. Oh no, it’s a lot bigger than they thought. “God… how stupid does it look?”
“It’s really not that bad,” He rescues honestly. He's always honest when the kids try on his stuff. Like it suits them or not. He’s pretty blunt about it, but he’s genuinely not trying to be rude. If something doesn't suit them, he always finds them a nice alternative. He’s got a somewhat decent fashion sense.
The flannel actually looks nice. It’s baggy and the sleeves cover their hands, which he finds cute. “Here. You can roll up the sleeves.” He takes their hands in his and rolls up, then buttons the sleeves in place. “There. That better?” They look at their hands, then at the rest of the shirt. “I guess…”
“You may get it to shrink if you wash it with hot water.” He crosses his arms as he leans back against the wall. “But that's not the only one. Try the other ones on, bub.” They look over the pile of flannels, deciding on the best one. They pick up a nice dark forest green one. Ooh, that'd be nice for a cottage core outfit. This one fits much better. The sleeves are a bit long, but they've accepted they'll just have to roll them up on all the flannels. Once it’s on, they look up at him, waiting for his opinion.
Oh fuck.
He’s racking his brain for a compliment. This is the part he struggles with. What kind of compliment would they enjoy? Uuuuh… “You look like a little forest nymph.” Judging by their reaction, that was a good compliment. Their eyes completely light up. “Dude! Did you read my fucking mind? I was just thinking of a cottage-core outfit for this!” Logan can’t help but smile. They’re really adorable.
“I used to wear that one in the woods a lot, so it tracks.” They sift through a couple more, trying to find something they like. Since those don't seem to be their style, Logan goes back into the closet. “Think I got something for you.” They drop the current flannel in their hands. “What? What!?” The excitement is clear in their voice. He drops some band shirts on the bed and they squeal loudly. Logan’s eye twitches as the high-pitched sound bothers his heightened hearing.
He tries shaking the ringing out of his ears. “I take it you like them?” They pick up each shirt and hold it out to see the designs. “Who doesn't love a baggy band shirt!?” They hold one shirt up to their chest. “Wow, I don’t even need to distress these. That’s what I do with all my new ones.” Logan sits beside them with a small smile as they go through his shirts. “Ah, it’s good you like that look, huh? I’ve seen most of those bands live.”
They hold another shirt up to their chest. “You don’t mind if I cut these up, do you?”
He shakes his head as he answers. “No. They're yours. Do whatever the hell you want with them.”
They hug the shirt to their chest as their eyes widen. “All of them!?”
Logan nods and they look at the rest of the band-tees on the bed. “Yea. I've seen most of those bands live.” That just makes the shirts that much cooler for them. “I recognize a couple of them.” They say while looking over the logo on one of the shirts. They make a mental note to check out the other bands on those shirts. I mean, if Logan likes them, they've gotta be good, right? When they pick up another, he gets off the bed. “Oh. I’ve actually got a button down I used to pair with that shirt all the time.”
They gasp in amazement when he drops it in their lap. It’s black and red plaid made of some expensive ass fabric. They can tell by how the material feels. Probably some high thread count shit. It’s more of a silky shirt. “Woooah. This is totally vampire-core! Ah, dude, I can totally see you slaying some vampires.” (Reference)
He can't help but chuckle at that one. “I thought that would nicely fit your uh-...” He trails off, trying to remember whatever word that has been being used around lately. “...Aesthetic.” He barely got his sentence out before they were putting it on. They look at the way the sleeves fit. “I’m gonna make a cowboy vampire outfit with this one.”
“You kids are so much more creative with your outfits than I.” He’s got a small fond smile as he watches themself admire the way the shirt looks on them. They've never had a piece of damn fabric make them so happy before. The euphoria they feel is better than any damn drug. Logan loves when the kids have one of these reactions. He feels just as happy as them knowing something of his caused that. Even if he won't outwardly show it.
He lightly grabs their shoulders and turns them around so they can see themself in the mirror. “Does that help?” Welp, now don’t they feel like a dumbass. They didn't even realize that mirror was there. They silently nod as they take a step closer. That's them? The shirt suits them so well. They're actually enjoying looking at their reflection.
Logan breathes in sharply as they slam into him with a hug. If he wasn't four-hundred pounds, he would have fallen over. His chest muffles their voice, but he can hear the emotion in their voice. “Thank you so much.” A small smile tugs on his lips. It feels so damn good to be the reason for this. He ruffles their hair before hugging them back. They can’t help but lean into his embrace. “Oh, I’m definitely getting more hugs from you.” This. Is. The. Best. Damn. Hug. They. Have. Ever had!
He ruffles their hair once more. “You can come to me anytime.” Logan is totally a lot of kid's emotional support mutant. After clinging to him a minute more, because who wouldn't? They take a few steps back. “Do you have more shirts like this?” His smile falters a bit. That was the only one, but he didn't want to disappoint them after such a wholesome reaction. “I’ll check.”
He’s searching in the closet, tossing clothes on the bed as he looks for something at least half similar to the one they have on. As he’s tossing a bunch of clothes, they pick up another button down. “Wait! I found one I like!” Oh thank god they found something. Logan wasn't prepared for disappointing them. He lets out a deep relieved breath before checking out what they grabbed. “Well? Gonna put it on, bub?” They hesitate. Of course, they want to try on more clothes, but they don't want to take off this one and lose that nice, nice euphoric feeling. He catches the subtle look of hesitation on their face. “I’ll hang that one up for ya.” Well, that makes them feel better.
They slide this one off- holy fuck the feeling of that silky shirt gliding right off their arms was fucking heavenly. Are they gonna wear that shirt all the time just because they like the way it feels? Hell yea. They hand it to him and he drapes it over the top of the closet door as they try on the next. It's baggy but looks nice. There’s just one thing- “Does this… shirt smell like alcohol?” He tilts his head as he sniffs the air. “Yea, whiskey.” Another sniff. “Knob Creek Whiskey, 2002 Bourbon and Rye blend.”
Their brows furrow at the oddly specific name. “Uh, should I be impressed or concerned because…?” They think of a way to call him an alcoholic without actually calling him an alcoholic. However the way they trailed off told him enough. He roughly changes the topic. “Ya like the shirt or not?” He crosses his arms as he looks over them. “Yea, it’s fine.”
Fine. That somehow hurt him. He’s disappointed that he wasn’t able to give them that nice reaction. Wordlessly, he turns back into the closet to find something else for them. “You, uh… Ya want some baggy jeans?” He awkwardly holds up a pair of jeans. A soft, amused breath leaves their lips. “Nah, I’m good. My whole body would fit in just one of those pant legs.” Damn it. Something else they don’t like. He’s feeling pretty disappointed. So back to the closet he goes.
He sorts through a bunch of clothes. Tossing some and shoving others back in the closet. They’re trying to look over his shoulder. “Hey, what was that? I liked the colour.” Logan looks back in the closet, trying to remember what he just grabbed. He pulls out a dark blue hoodie. “This? It’s big. I didn’t think you’d like it.” They take it from him and pull it over their head. “I’m fine with a baggy hoodie.”
“Looks like a dress on you.” They put their hands in their pockets and sway back and forth. “It’s got a giant pocket. I’m keeping it.” Logan can’t help but playfully roll his eyes. So many of the kids love that all his clothes have nice pockets. “I've got jeans with pockets.” They can’t help but whine. “None of those are going to fit me!”
“Okay!” He snaps back playfully while lightly laughing. He shakes his head in amusement as he turns back to the closet. So this one likes pockets. Let's look for something with pockets. He grabs a flannel hoodie. “Ya want this?” They pull off the current hoodie to try on the next. “Depends on how it fits.” Oh, yeah, that one fits nicely. Yay! Another piece of clothing! “I’m keeping this.” They say matter-of-factly. They fold the clothes they are keeping and set them aside so they don’t get lost with the other clothes on the bed. “Got anotha one for ya.”
Their head perks up at the sound of the voice. Then they gasp/squeal. “Aaah! I love that colour!” He’s holding up a nice plain dark blue. No plaid. He tosses it over to them. The fabric is soft and nice and thick. “It’s good for the winter," he says. They run their fingers over the fabric. Well, he ain’t wrong. Time to try it on! “Ooh, I can tell.”
“Yea, I killed a guy while wearing that.” He states like it’s no big deal. That makes them pause. They can’t tell if he’s joking or not by his tone. Then again, he is the Wolverine. Not that surprising, he killed someone. They laugh nervously. “ ‘Scuse me?”
“You heard me.” He responds flatly. They're not even sure how to process that. They start and stop to take the shirt off multiple times. “Wh- wha- I-... Do I even want this anymore?”
“Well it looks damn fine on you, it ain’t got any blood on it, and now you've got a shirt with a story.” They're about to take it off then pause. They can imagine someone going, ‘Hey, that’s a nice shirt.’ then saying ‘Yea, the Wolverine killed someone while wearing it.’ Hmmm… More bragging rights? Something to gloat about? They tug the shirt back up and smooth it out. “Yea, I guess. Still don’t know how I feel about it.”
“You’ll get used ta it. I know ya don’t want any jeans but how ‘bout a jean jacket? I haven't been wearing this one.” The jacket he’s holding up is old and tattered. It’s black so it matches their style. Aw he already knows them so well. If it was blue they would have declined. “Ooh, I really like that. It’s like a biker.” He can’t help but scoff. “Yea no shit.”
Now they feel stupid. “It is a biker jacket, isn't it?”
“Yea dumbass.” He says lightheartedly.
They can’t help but giggle when they put the jacket on and see themselves in the mirror. They look so damn cool! “Wait, wait, wait. Do you have any bandanas? That would go great with this!”
Logan runs a hand through his hair and lets out a long, sharp breath. “Yeah. Somewhere in here.” He looks around. He’s got quite a few. He just doesn’t remember where he put them.
“Um… If you can’t find any, I’ll just buy one. They’re cheap.” They mumble quietly and a little nervously.
“Nah. Might find you some other shit while I look.” With that, he sifts through his dresser. They get on their tiptoes to look over his shoulder, trying to spot anything cool. Just a bunch of jeans… So they back up to sit back on the bed. “Eh, where you going? I got something. It’s better than a bandana.” His hands are cupped together as he holds them out so they can’t see. “Better than a bandana? What is it?” He smirks as he gives his hands a little shake, but doesn’t open them. Oh, he’s feeling playful. “Well, what is it?” Still no answer. He just keeps smirking at them. They grab his hands and try to pull them apart. He’s not budging. “Come on, old man! Show me! What is it?”
He’s having a lot of fun with this. He’s got a big dorky smile. He knows they're going to really like what he has for them, so he wants to build up that anticipation. They’re laughing as they struggle to pull his hands apart. With his strength, it’s impossible for them. He’ll let them pull his hands apart when the anticipation is just right… “Show me, show me, show me!” They say with full excitement as they laugh. Ok now! They gasp as he lets them pull his hands apart. There’s a fancy ass watch in his palms. “You’re giving that to me!?”
He simply nods. Their reaction warms his heart. He can imagine this is a big moment for them. They can’t believe this. This is their first watch! And it’s actually something masculine for once! “You’re actually giving this to me!? But it looks so expensive!”
“It’s fine. I have plenty.”
“It’s gonna be too big…”
“You can adjust it dumbass. Come on and give me your wrist.” They hand him the watch and extend their wrist. He wraps the leather strap around their wrist. The strap is old and worn out. It looks like real leather, too. “Are you sure you want me to keep it? It looks like you’ve worn it a lot.” He fastens the strap as tight as it will let him. “I’ve been wearing my newer ones. Do you like it?” They look over their wrist, flipping it over and admiring how it fits on their wrist. It’s just barely tight enough on them. They're sure they could add an extra hole with a leather puncher. “I- love it. You just gave me the nicest thing I own!”
Logan accidentally lets a small ‘aww’ leave his lips. That makes him so insanely happy. “Better than a bandana?” They can’t stop admiring this shiny new object on their wrist. “Yes! Hell yeah! But I could still use a bandana.” He can’t help but scoff. He just gave them the greatest gift in their life and still wants a cheap piece of fabric? But he’ll still give them what they want so they can complete their outfit. He walks across the room, then quickly turns back around, then turns around again to go back to where he was heading. That makes them chuckle. “You have no idea where they are, do you?” He grabs a box from the closet and hands it to them. “They're here. Now pick a fucking colour.”
Their eyes light up. He basically has every colour and patterned bandana ever! “It’d be cool if one was trans colours, but I think I’ll go with a classic red.” He raises his brows. Oh? Gift idea? He’s sure he can find one. He’s learned you can get anything off the internet. They set the box down and tie the bandana around their neck. “Kay, do I look like a badass biker?”
“Yea, I’d invite ya to ride with me.” They look in the mirror and fluff up their hair. “I feel so cool and badass. Is this what you feel like every day?” That question catches him off guard. “Badass every day? Hell yea, bub.” Watching them fluff up their hair, he gets an idea. He taps their shoulder and gestures them to follow. “Uuuh. What else have you got for me? I’m guessing something other than clothes?” He doesn't say anything as he walks through the room. Their face deadpans. “Ok, thanks for the answer, man.” They pause as he steps into the bathroom. “Uuumm… Do you really need me to accompany you while you piss?”
He sighs exasperatedly and rolls his eyes. Teenagers these days… He swears… “I’m getting you something from the bathroom. Get in here.” A million questions run through their head but they step in. Oh, it’s small and kinda cramped. “What, toilet paper?” He sighs heavily again. He’s too damn old for this. He grabs a thing of hair gel off the sink. “You’re one of the few that does your hair the same as me. This is what I use.” They take it from his hands and look over the container. “Wow! This is expensive, isn't it? Is this why your hair looks so nice?”
“No. Good genetics.” He says bluntly. “You can have the rest of the container.” They feel dumbfounded. “Wow, ok. Make that the second nicest thing I own.”
“Want me to show you how I use it?”
“Hell yea, dude! I always have to fluff my hair back up throughout the day.” They feel so damn excited. He takes the container and applies some gel on his hands. “This lasts all day. You just gotta… Fluff up your hair like this and….. Hold it in place as it dries. Which is only a few seconds.” They apply some on their hands and mimic his moves. He can’t help but feel like he’s teaching his kid how to do their hair. He may not have any kids of his own, but these kids at the mansion definitely make him feel fatherly. He fluffs up their hair without a second thought. “Ya did good. Looks almost as good as mine. Mine's still better.” He says cockily, which gets a laugh for them. They look at themselves in the mirror. “Aw, I look just like you!” He wipes his hands on a towel and tosses it to them. He’s thinking of what else to give them so they look like him. Flannels, check. Jacket, check. He goes through the list, then comes up with something else. “Ok, stop checking yourself out in the mirror and follow me.” They groan as they follow him again.
“Everyone who wants to look like me needs a chunky belt.” They look over his shoulder as he looks through a whole goddamn drawer of just belts. “Weird collection you've got there.” After a minute, he finds a relatively small belt that might fit them. “Got this one from Canada.” They immediately reach out and grab it. At this point, they're going to end up looking like a mini version of him, which they love. “Oh cool, the leather matches this watch. So, can you get me some maple syrup right from Canada?”
“Hell no.” He probably will. He buys a lot of stuff from Canada just for all the kids at the mansion each time he goes up there. He watches as they slip the belt through the loops on their pants. Right now, they look just like him when he goes on a bike ride. They grumble to themselves. “Ugh, dammit. It’s too big.” He was nervous about that, but luckily he has a solution. “You just gotta tuck it in like this.” He demonstrates with his belt and they try to mimic him. “Uh yea, I don’t think I did that right.”
“It looks fine. Stop fussing.” They reluctantly stop and sigh. They glance at the pile of clothes he’s giving them. They’ve got so much stuff to wear and choose from. “Thanks for all of this. No one else would have done this for me.”
“That’s why I do it.” He begrudgingly admits. He thinks he’s given them enough for now. They still have to carry it all. “Ya happy?”
“Um, of course! I finally have clothes I’ll enjoy wearing!” A smile tugs on his lips as they say that. “Need me to find ya a box for all that?”
“Please? This is gonna fill most of my closet!”
He laughs and makes his way to the door. “Come on. I’m sure there’s an empty one somewhere in this damn mansion. And you get to show off that outfit.” They look down at themselves. They completely forgot they're still wearing this jacket and other stuff they tried on. They’re a little nervous, but he’ll protect them, right? That’s a yes.
So they follow him out of his room and go down the hall. There’s a few people in the halls. Not many, unlike earlier. That’s definitely making their anxiety feel at ease. Storm passes by and recognizes the jacket they are wearing. ‘Oh, looks like Logan found another kid that admires him.' All the teachers know Logan’s soft spot for the trans kids. Honestly, it’s the cutest thing ever. The other X-men like to help build up the confidence for whatever kid Logan is pampering. “Well, aren't you handsome?” She says with a small smile as they pass by each other in the hall. That makes them freak out. Well, when she’s not in ear range so they don’t completely embarrass themselves. “Oh, my stars! She called me handsome! One of the most beautiful women, uh- ever! Called me handsome!”
That reaction gets a small chuckle from him. He’s secretly pleased the other X-men do little things to help the queer kids. “Yeah? Feelin’ good, eh?” They’re looking down the hall as she walks away, trying to figure out if that really did just happen. Logan taps their shoulder to get their attention. “We gonna keep fucking walking or nah?” They squeak as they snap out of their daze. They feel like they're walking on air. “Sorry- I just- damn…”
He pats them on the head and ruffles their hair. “Take a deep breath, kid.” They do as he says. Their lungs expand gradually and slowly deflate. With that exhale, all those jittery feelings fade. Mostly. Who wouldn’t freak out if Storm complimented them? Wait… as they think it gets even better.
They’re literally wearing their idols' clothes while walking down the damn hall with him. He wraps his arm around them and gives them a nice pat on the shoulder. He knows damn well they’ve got enough happiness to last weeks.
