while poseidon’s overprotective nature is no secret, much less to his family, he has always been more protective of his youngest. albeit the couple had more than enough experience at this point, even as a baby, the god was tentative to hold him, worried he would hurt him somehow. it took trite’s fond rolling of her eyes and a nudge to his side to first hold finn in his arms. rather than crying like most did, the boy stared up at him with inquisitive eyes, hand reaching out to touch. truth to be told, poseidon felt like crying right then, overwhelmed with pure adoration for the adorable bundle of joy in his arms. he leaned forward and pressed a kiss on his forehead, one finger reaching out. finn’s little hand wrapped around it, and poseidon felt his heart swell even more. another addition to their small, perfect family, the god promised him that he would grow up with love.
an easy way to show his affections have always been to pamper the kids with gifts, extravagant toys, clothes, anything they wanted— however, it had been clear soon enough that he needed to be more than that to be father. as such, he did his best to show up at family get-togethers, and on an occasion where trite couldn’t attend, it was just him and finn, amongst other children and parents. it was quite awkward to put it lightly, for saying that you were the god of the sea wasn’t a good conversation starter. but, he knew how important this was to finn. when he saw the boy begin to squirm and sulk, it was all it took for him to jump into action, pushing and trying to befriend others so the kids could get along as well. a few hours later, finn was laughing and joking around with other children, so the acting as if he liked these people was all worth it.
poseidon isn’t sure if finn is ready for the outside world yet, it’s an irrational and useless worry, he can’t keep him safe and locked inside the house forever, neither can he follow his every step. the god knows this, trite has told him this countless times, but he can’t help but fear something will happen to the boy and he won’t be able to be there in time. and of course, he knows he can’t just say it out loud, that he shouldn’t question finn’s individuality, though it’s hard to act eager to the fact that his little boy is leaving the house. he had this dilemma with the twins before, but as he was more protective with the youngest — finn leaving only scares him more. if he can’t give him bodyguards, he wants to figure out a way to know his whereabouts when he needs it, though it’s still a work in process. one thing for sure, he will be there even when he hears the slightest shake of finn’s voice, so he at least wants the boy to live somewhere nearby.
