Tonight, I was able to experience my first Sofar Sounds event. I dont remember how I first heard about Sofar Sounds, but it was fairly recent.
If you are not familiar, here's a bit about how they describe themselves and their origin:
Sofar Sounds is a series of secret pop-up gigs in people’s living rooms. Started in 2009 in the London flat of musician Passion Ate Dave - this has become a global movement dedicated to bringing music lovers together in filled living rooms across the world. People coming together for good music...that's what we love!
They've been hosting events in SF for already 2 years; tonight was their 20th show.
They are in over 90+ cities; it was neat that some of the other attendees tonight have already been to Sofar Sounds events in different parts of the world; Prague, London, Oxford, Buenos Aires.
Tonight's performers were:
Jamal DeGruy aka J-Bird The Straybird
I really enjoyed chilling on the floor of some guys apt in NOPA and experiencing the performers on a monday night.
One of my favorite lines of the evening was from a poem that Jamal shared:
It's hard to change when the hurt feels so good
Here are some other goodies I posted to the instagram: (lame Tumblr/Instagram make it difficult to embed)
Really excited for tonight's
