Anwar slapped with RM50 million lawsuit by former aide

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 13, 2014:

Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has been slapped with a RM50 million lawsuit by his former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan.

Bernama reported that 27-year-old Mohd Saiful had filed the suit on June 23 at the High Court via his lawyer Zamri Idrus.

Members of the media received a copy of the claims today after the case was mentioned for management.

In the suit, Mohd Saiful claimed that he endured physical pain and had suffered since 2008 as a result of being sodomised by the defendant (Anwar).

Mohd Saiful also said he had suffered after Anwar accused him of slander and conspiracy following the police report Mohd Saiful lodged regarding the incident.

Meanwhile, the High Court has ordered Anwar to file his defence statement by Sept 3 and that case management was set for Oct 8.

This lawsuit comes in the midst of Anwar’s appeal against his conviction and sentence after he was found guilty of sodomising Mohd Saiful Bukhari in 2008.

The Court of Appeal had on March 7, after finding Anwar guilty, sentenced him to five years in jail.
