A character in desperate need of warm, dry clothing struggling to undress themselves- fingers clumsy with cold fumbling at buttons and laces and fasteners; wet or muddy or ice-encrusted fabric clinging and tangling and resisting efforts to pull it off; quaking shivers destroying the necessary coordination to free theirself of successive layers, and the entire process getting progressively harder the longer it takes and the longer they're stuck in cold, wet, heat-leeching clothing.

I'm reading Baptism of Fire and I REALLY need to know. Where is Ciri's claim to sodden? When Milva's discussing the rumours about her being in Nilfgaard and whatnot she talks about how Ciri will be her lady and it's land that will be granted in her dowry. However I can't seem to figure out where this "duchess of Sodden" claimant title comes from? And even if she were a duchess of sodden it wouldn't make sodden part of the empire because sodden is ruled by Foltest through being the son of Sancia, sister of Ekkehard of Sodden who was ruling sodden until his passing. So like? Any Ciri scholars got any ideas because as a Temerian scholar i am stumped.

sometimes i remember that scene of yennefer at sodden using the last of her chaos and she is grotesque. there’s blood and snot and tears and viscera fucking everywhere and it kicks ass because it shows that magic is not effortless and that sometimes saving people is not pretty. no divine savior complex, no ethereal beauty in the midst of the battle. blood and effort and focus to do what needs to be done.
