Happy Belated Red Leaves Anniversary!! I'm A Terrible Mom I Forgot
I released Red Leaves on February 8th 2025.

I FORGOT. MY LIFE HAS BEEN HECTIC LATELY OK..
It's crazy weird how long it's been. A whole year since I finished that, that means I was working on this throughout 2024, oh god I hate the passage of time
Since then, I haven't made any progress or announcements on another game project. Even though I wanted to. And I did post a screenshot of an idea many months ago but that project is currently not being worked on indefinitely as I lost motivation for that specific one and wasn't happy with the direction.
I have a growing list of ideas I want to turn into short games. I've been playing more miscellaneous RPGMaker games on itchio and it's inspirational, and it reminds me why I love these kinds of games so much. I want to make a million more!!!!
Especially because I want to prove that I've learned from Red Leaves and can make something more refined and polished. Red Leaves was not perfect! And I knew that when I released it! I kind of let it be that way on purpose. I said it before, Red Leaves was my glorified experiment. Just to see what if I could make something, and to help me figure out RPGMaker. And boy do I have it figured out now
I want to make more games so badly it's annoying but it's so fun. My mind is just a very messy and busy place, not to mention my life and Being A Cashier
Red Leaves was an important milestone for me though and I really do appreciate all your support, kind words, critiques, artwork, and all of you that played it. Thank you!
I know I haven't been super active on this blog recently, the reasons are as stated above, but considering it's been a year since Red Leaves I'd love to answer any questions anyone has about the development or just little fun facts. :) I doubt there'll be any but hey I'm putting it out there

I hope to make something a little bigger next time. Something people can better sink their teeth into. And I want to actually advertise and promote it this time. And maybe even do dev logs. I want to be a better game developer!! I want to at least TRY and get people to see my work

Red Leaves 1.4 Patch
A wolf killed your grandma and it keeps killing you too. What are you going to do?
Hello hello! Sorry for the silence! I know it's been months since the last patch but watching Joy stream the game last night kickstarted me a bit.
PATCH NOTES:
-Removed forest ambience playing during the first wolf cutscene
-You can no longer accidentally consume the certain materials and therefore softlock yourself
-The tutorial has been refined to have less awkward pacing when it comes to actually doing your turns
-The woodcutter's skill now costs Energy to use as it didn't before for some reason
-There was one line in the game that used "Red" instead of "You" in its narration and I fixed that
-You can no longer access the mouse room. It's a pretty pointless room to have since the little side-event I planned for it is currently unused. Maybe one day...
-Changed the layout for the save menu and your regular item menu. They are now the default appearance as I found the layouts added by plugins looked really messy and crowded. Sometimes, simple is best for some things!
There are some other things I'm still aware of that are not necessarily fixed in this patch and I will get to those another day.
Aside from Red Leaves, here's a personal update from me below if you're interested:
I ONLY DROPPED THE GAME YESTERDAY AND WE'VE ALREADY SURPASSED 100 DOWNLOADS!!! THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH!!

Update!
So you can probably tell by the blog updating (for those confused, this was sock-devdiary), but something has changed!
Me, @chipistrate , and @the-real-aurora-borealis , two of my very close friends who helped a lot with the behind the scenes for Red Leaves, have grouped together to form a little gamedev team!!

I've adjusted the blog to fit. Don't worry, I'll still be the one running this blog and answering asks and whatnot, but! We're a thing now and we do things. sometimes. haha get it. From now on projects will be under that name and we'll be working on things together. We're hoping to have fun!!
And like I briefly mentioned the other day, we ARE working on a new project.

This technically Shouldn't go here because this isn't necessarily a Sometimes Studios thing BUT at the end of the day this is still my game dev blog I can do what I want forever.
Here's some teasers of a project me and my friend @moog-enthusiast are working on in the background! Still very early on and obvs life gets busy but! I've been chipping away at putting tilesets and sprites together.
It's our own take on an RPGMaker Horror + Mascot Horror. Take that as you will. No, there's no ghosts.
Been really excited and motivated about it lately so I thought I'd show my work so far. Yay!
