#Performingvisualartists Currently, 62% of Jackson Heights and 70% of Elmhurst residents rent their home, which creates a climate for continuous transition and perhaps an uninterested approach towards beautifying their immediate surroundings. We are not capturing our aesthetic culture in our neighborhoods, functioning only in survival mode. This intervention is to encourage people to attempt to encapsulate their footprint in Queens. This concept brings us back to ownership. We would like for people to reflect on how they see their neighborhood. How does a lack of art reflect on their sensibilities? How does an individual connect to their sense of place/belonging through art with where they live? The proposal emphasizes the concept of re-using items to create beauty in the home and it strives to inspire participants to reflect upon their agency and influence on the aesthetics of their neighborhood. A series of objects selected randomly and which have been donated by neighbors will be modified creatively by the artists Joyce Sánchez Espinoza Joe León Arid Orozco and the general public, thus creating "unique and unrepeatable" works without changing its original function, providing them with new, unique and creative sensibilities in the present. The public will know the objects right away; they will just see it intervened in an unconventional way. These commonly used objects allow for our participants to appreciate a beautiful item, as an alternative to entering a store and buying said item. Most people underestimate their creative abilities. Looking at items in your home, such as a cupboard, a shelf or a chair, would you dare to put your signature on it? When a person exerts action, one feels ownership over the object for you have expressed your taste through choice of color, design, texture. The exhibit of this urban collective performance include the display of the artistically intervened items evoking the inside of a household. The performance is today in Jackson Heights at 1pm. #QueensArtists #performativeNYC #urbanperformance #socialEcologies #socialEngagedArtists #artNYC #QueensSocialArtPractices #visualartistsandthecommunity #UrbancommunityAestheticInterv (at Jackson Heights, New York)
