i watched a girl fall in love this week
and it was golden and pure and saccharine
a sickening type of sweet
and i felt this addictive ache to my core
knowing that someday that beautiful exchange
of energy and thoughts and trust and bodily fluids
and maybe it would end sharply
the kind of end that leaves bitter words sitting sour on tongues
the kind of end that leaves bullet holes with no exit wounds
or maybe it would end in a dragged-out fashion
in a manner that leaves behind claw marks from clinging so tightly
that turn into scabs which get relentlessly picked off until they give up on healing
or perhaps it would end gently
with soft sorrowful whispered goodbyes
and lingering stares that look like pleas.
so much of me wanted to believe that
it didn’t have to end at all
but a bolder part of my mind asserted itself, scoffing
everything beautiful must die.
i watched a girl fall in love this week
and even though i was sure that it would eventually come to a shattering halt
