Maria and Sharon dance to Nat King Cole. It’s Maria’s favorite artists–one of them, and Sharon refused to let her wife actually play AC/DC at the wedding because Tony would dance and that was–well, that was awful–but it was Nat King Cole. Not the L-O-V-E song. But it was “Orange Colored Sky.” One of Maria’s favorites, the one that made her realize she liked Sharon. 

Sharon wore white. It was one of her favorite colors. (It was every color, and she was everything to Maria.) So she requested it, Sharon thought that they should’ve done L-O-V-E, but Natasha understood it. 

“No,” she had said while they were cake-tasting. (Lemon and raspberry, just like the drink Aunt Peggy used to serve.) “Maria knows what she’s doing.” 

“Okay,” Sharon says. “But you both are useless lesbians, so just know that doesn’t mean much.” 

“You say this as if you aren’t marrying a woman,” Natasha says. “Besides, you tripped on your face the first time you saw Maria and whispered to me ‘shit, I hope she’s my assigned agent.’ Don’t be a dumbass, Carter.” 

But they’re dancing. Maria doesn’t dance a lot. Sharon dances to everything. She puts on music in the morning, sways her hips, slides in her funny-patterned socks, and always drags Maria into the kitchen to cook because Sharon can’t cook for shit. 

“You’re pretty good,” Sharon says. “Not even slipping.” 

“I don’t slip, I’m good at what I do,” Maria says. “And I have to say, I’m not planning on being a shit agent or a shit wife.” Sharon laughs. “A game I play to win.” 

“You’re such a dork, you know that Mar?” She just shrugs and grins. 

God, Sharon looks beautiful. They hadn’t picked out outfits together–Sharon refused to see the bride before the big day. It didn’t matter that Maria had picked out a navy suit with bright white heels, or that Sharon talked about what her dress was like for about four hours straight. 

Their first dance as a couple is great. Maria doesn’t say that she actually trained with Natasha and Tony learning how to dance competently so she could dip Sharon smoothly and not drop her, and it’s just–

She never thought she would get this. SHIELD agents usually don’t. But Sharon throws the bouquet, Bruce catches it and looks to Thor with a laugh, and Maria laughs. 

SHIELD agents usually don’t get married. They usually don’t get anyone.
