The daylight snow was not too concerning, but as evening approached, the flakes grew and the temperature dropped.

I worked an evening shift so I was not out until midnight. By then, my car was buried in the snow.

I was worried about driving home in my 2011 Chevrolet Malibu, so I stayed at my grandma’s house in town closer to my work.

What would have been a 15minute drive ended up taking me an hour. Snow was about a foot deep (~30cm) with no road treatment.

I spent that Saturday walking around the neighborhood in that snow.

Curiously enough, I bought that house from my grandma five years later.

I later learned West Virginia had experienced Winter Storm Jonas, also known as the Blizzard of 2016, and colloquially as Snowzilla. Seven surrounding states experienced record snowfall up to 30in (76cm), with accumulations peaking at 42in (110cm) in Glengary, West Virginia. This storm was the sixth largest in history for the Northeast.
