I like to think that after the events of ATWQ the Bellerophon brothers continued to drive their taxi and became like the Knight Bus from Harry Potter, only for firefighting VFD associates.
Imagine, you’re lost/injured/just escaped enemy hands/pursued by enemy associates (or the law) hot on your tail/dodging bullets, etc, and suddenly a taxi appears out of nowhere. It pulls to a halt right in front of you, and a man gets out of the front seat and opens the backseat door for you. As you slide (or dive) in, the driver looks over his shoulder, cap shadowing his face, and says, in a deep, yet surprisingly youthful voice “Need a ride? We drive for tips.”
*goosebumps*
And then one night, who should unknowingly jump into their taxi, but Lemony Snicket...

Ravenclaw: *walks up to the bathroom, stands in the doorway and watches me as I perch on the bathroom counter (I’M SHORT OKAY) and stare into the mirror, furiously scratching my head at my hairline*
Me: “Man, I’ve got THE WORST dandruff all of a sudden, but just in one place!!”
Ravenclaw: “I have the same problem.”
Me: “Just in one spot though?”
“Yeah, only it moves. It’s like traveling dandruff.”
*laughs* “That sounds like something Mr. Poe would have.”
“No, Mr. Poe IS a traveling dandruff.”

@twinpoetry on the Unfortunate Associates podcast made a really great observation during the Hostile Hospital episode about how Count Olaf is a villain in his own right, and he attracts other kinds of villains who are villainous and sinister in their own different ways. An example she gave is that Olaf is creepy towards the kids (particularly Violet with the whole marriage business), but it’s not the main reason he’s a bad guy, just kind of one of his gross side traits. Whereas the Bald Man goes out of his way to creep directly at Violet in a much more pervy way. I hadn’t quite put that together; all of his troupe members kind of get lumped together as “villains”, but they all do kind of have their own “niche” evil tendencies, and together they make up a pretty well-rounded evil troupe.
I’d really have loved to see what one of the schemes would have looked like from their perspective (we kind of got a glimpse of that in HH when Klaus and Sunny infiltrated their ranks). I bet they had a really interesting team dynamic (albeit one that didn’t end up sufficient to keep them all together). I want to know their backstories, what made them each decide to be villains, what drew them to Count Olaf, what made him decide to keep each one close, (he’s a theatre nerd, did he hold tryouts, and oh gosh, what did that look like? 🤣), what do they stay for, and what’s the breaking point that finally makes the ones who leave go?
Aaaaand now I have evil troupe feels… 😜
