Just like the movies: How Popcorn is a perfect diet snack.
Popcorn is:
- Low in calories.Â
- Sugar free (unless sugar is added, of course.)Â
- High in fibre.Â
- Fat free.Â
The trick with popcorn is you have to make it yourself. You can't cheat here. If you go out and buy salted popcorn in a bag, thinking it's better for you than sweet then you're probably wrong 9 times out of 10.Â
You have to buy a bag of popcorn kernels. If you're from the UK I get mine from Marks & Spencers. It's in a yellow bag and in the 'eat well' section.
HOW TO MAKE POPCORN.Â
Ok, it's so easy and pretty fun actually. This is what you do.Â
1. Grab a saucepan and put a tiny bit of oil in it. The bag says corn oil is needed but it's not. I know, oil is fattening but it's only there for the corn to heat up. Your popcorn will NOT be oily if you put the right amount of oil in it.Â
2. Get a SMALL handful of popcorn. Don't over do it. Those kernels may look small when they're not popped but they triple in size when they do.Â
3. Throw the handful of popcorn into the saucepan. Put the pan on high heat and close the lid. Then wait to hear the first pops.Â
4. As soon as you hear the first couple of pops turn the heat down. Pretty much all the way. Keep shaking the pan so the popcorn has a chance to move and the bottom doesn't burn.Â
5. If you want to add a topping I suggest low fat butter. Fry some of that in the pan and when it's melted put it onto your popcorn. It'll add a few calories but not a lot.Â
6. If you like FryLight buy their butter flavour and spray that onto the popcorn when it's done! I haven't tried this yet but I'm sure it'll taste good and is basically fat free!Â
