🌈 - A dream from their childhood
For whoever sparks joy right now
(from this ask game)
I’ll give you Val! weirdo changeling. unwitting witness to the horrors <3
Sunlight danced into a summer meadow filled with daisies and clover. Val floated along on a gentle breeze, bouncing their hands along the flowers below. Every now and then their hand slipped to the scrap of paper tucked into their belt to be sure it was still there.
They was a party waiting for them at the top of the hill and Val had an invitation.
They clambered over a low stone fence and looked on excitedly. There were more people here than Val had ever seen in one place, like something off the television, but not exclusive to humans—though there were plenty of giants here. There were humans and borrowers and talking animals and things Val didn’t really have names for, and all of them seemed to get along at least as well as their own family did. Better, even.
A band of three folk in strange costumes and airy instruments played an upbeat ballad. Without words, Val could still tell that it was celebrating some hero outsmarting the dangers of the forest. The music drew a small crowd into a dance circle centered on a young, human girl in ruffled clothes that reminded Val of an old colorless portrait. She’d been singing so long that her voice was growing hoarse but the circle continued to cheer her on.
Val started towards the circle, certain that they could keep from being trampled if they kept to the rhythm, when a breeze kicked up and drew their attention to a table loaded with sweets. They scrambled through the grass and scurried up a table leg to a full landscape of pastries. A familiar-looking human behind them laughed and and handed them a chunk of something smothered with honey.
Val finished the first treat and their mouth watered as the choices overwhelmed them. It wasn’t too unusual for a borrower to find themself surrounded by food, but it was a rare and wondrous thing to have permission to indulge until their stomach was so full that they couldn’t move. To bask in the sun as it set into a painted sky.
They woke up and stretched eventually, still feeling content. They’d been at that party before, they remembered. But every time they dreamed that dream, and each time they woke, the details got a little fuzzier. A little softer. The faces blurred together and Val forgot how inhuman the giants looked. They forgot the dancing child’s bloodied feet and torn clothes. They forgot just what the pastries were made of. They forgot that it had once been real. It was just a meaningless dream of sunlight and sugar, a happy break from the dim and dust where they spent most of their time.
Since I know you have several AUs, I had to ask, but feel free to ignore that one if none come to mind.
14. An au you’d like to explore someday?
18. What’s one big cultural difference between giants and tinies in your character’s world?
(For any story you feel like)
14. An au you'd like to explore someday?
...any where I actually finish writing things I want to go back to cyberfae, which is essentially abandoned. I think the transhumanism in cyberpunk could make an interesting mesh with g/t - you pretend to be human in the Metamatrixverse because you want to be human and the human you're telling this to laughs because she's not even sure that she's human anymore? and there's fun aesthetics if it had to be something new, maybe switch val and phoebe's roles? phoebe would absolutely have puzzled out little bits about magic and how it works before it starts going wild and dragging a random human into her business, so I'd get a very different story on the same premise.
18. What's one big cultural difference between giants and tinies in your character's world?
Hmm, I'm going to go with something kind of inconsequential becuse I was just thinking about it, but gift-giving etiquette is different for most smallfolk/borrowers. Gifts are supposed to be appreciated so shouldn’t be accepted unless they’re actually wanted. It’s incredibly rude to take a gift then shove it in the back of a drawer somewhere or even save it for sentimental reasons. Presumably the giver had to work hard to get the gift and wasting it by letting it go unused is way worse than merely suggesting they have bad taste. It’s generally expected that, if possible, gifts should be tried out or tasted while the giver is still present. If a gift isn’t wanted, it’s best to thank the giver and express plans to regift it (which allows the giver to save face and pretend that was their intention and potentially plan to get the receiver something else) and it's acceptable to simply thank them and give it back.
(ask game)
11. What are their comfort foods? What foods do they refuse to eat?
For whoever you feel like talking about!
(autistic muse ask game)
Phoebe is a pasta person, for sure. fettuccine alfredo or just buttered noodles are her go-to comfort foods but most pasta dishes will probably land as a safe food. she also eats a lot of soups and when she’s really not feeling the whole eating thing will make herself a smoothie
She doesn’t really eat raw vegetables for Texture Reasons, and she’s absolutely not touching anything that advertises itself as particularly spicy
(sorry this took so long for a kinda bland answer – I was going to do some worldbuilding and answer with a nonhuman character but I have pretty bad ARFID and imagining a whole diet where someone enjoys foods is uh wild)
pride asks! happy june!
18. Do you prefer to give your ocs specific labels, or keep it unspecified? Why? If applicable, do you change their labels depending on circumstance?
and if you want to,
21. Free ramble card wee
(ask game)
Happy pride!
18. I like to at least give them specific labels in my character notes because it’s easier to keep track that way lol but in universe a lot of the characters wouldn’t care to label themself the same way, if at all. Like in my notes, Hollow is bigender, pansexual, and polyamorous but in-story he wouldn’t know the word bigender and doesn’t really think of the rest as an important identity thing, he just sometimes has multiple partners.
I don’t really feel the need to change their labels unless I’m tweaking the character, so it’s not just the label changing

17. How does your OC sabotage themselves?
For Val and/or Phoebe?
(ask game)
Phoebe forgets or "forgets" problems she doesn't want to deal with and she's also pretty big on procrastination. She's got ADHD, so sometimes things really do just slip her mind, but as often as she claims.
Val doesn't limit themself to a single method of self-sabotage, they actually have very low self-worth. They're prone to people pleasing, perfectionism, and repressing emotions they think are "inappropriate" for the situation at hand, all at the expense of their own mental well-being
