lips
smiitz. 791 words no warnings .
Cam’s thumb hovered over his screen. Blue eyes were glued to the image on display, sitting below the tag “smii7y” and above the caption: “Spooky Season 2018”. He examined it in slight curiosity, not exactly knowing why the image had caught his attention.
It was a mirror selfie of the boy who was sharing his hotel room, often posting pictures of outfits, shoes or his dog. It was just another picture, showing him in a shirt with a green skeleton on it, holding his phone up. It cut off just below his nose, showing pretty pink lips, curved in a way that stopped Cameron from scrolling .
Which was odd.
Cam had seen Jaren’s face many times before. On screens, in photos, in person too: his face wasn’t a surprise anymore. So why did one image catch his attention so much?
He scrolled down slightly, not deterring far from the image. A comment: four words. “You got girl lips.” He hardly paid mind to Jaren’s sharp reply, returning to re-examine the image again.
It was almost perfect timing for the door of his hotel room to swing open and the boy in the image on his screen walked in with a hand in his pocket and three shopping bags looped over his shoulder.
Dark eyes blinked up. “Sup Bitch,” he greeted, walking over to drop his bags on the desk. Their shared room greeted him and he flopped down on his stiff cheap bed with a sigh. “Jus’ spent half my weight in money because of fuckin’ John,” he complained, taking a moment to enjoy the view of the ceiling before sitting back up. “What’ve you been doing?”
Cam shrugged, eyes flicking to the image, before returning to Jaren’s face. Jaren watched with patient curiosity and Cam couldn’t help taking a moment to run his gaze along the curve of Jaren’s lips. A soft smile. Pink and full.
Cam hadn’t noticed them before.
Now he couldn’t not.
Of course he had stupidly zoned into his thoughts, staring at Jaren’s lips. The shorter boy leaned over and plucked the phone from his hand.
“Oi!” Cam sat upright, legs swinging off the bed as he went to retrieve his phone. Jaren fell back on the mattress, grin on his pretty lips as he held the phone up and took a good look at the focus of the screen.
Cam’s cheeks were already going red.
“Give it back, asshole.”
That grin broadened. “Why’re you lookin’ at my photo, huh?” Teasing, taunting.
Cam frowned, crawling onto the bed and getting a grip on Jaren’s wrist. “I was just scrolling,” he lied but the grin on his roommate’s face knew enough. He passed the phone to his free hand and Cam pinned the now-empty one to the mattress as he reached for the one holding his phone. Jaren’s legs squirmed beneath him, kicking and wriggling in attempts to get loose. Cam sat on his thighs and held him still.
“I don’t believe you,” Jaren sung, giggling as his hand was snatched up and the phone fell to the mattress beside his head.
The moment paused, Cam hovering above Jaren, holding both of his arms down. Brown eyes looked up at him, sparkling, taunting. And his lips were perfect. A small smile of mischief.
A smile Cam adored. He forgot all about his phone.
He leaned down and covered those pretty pink lips with his own, eyes falling shut without hesitation. It took him a full three seconds to realise his impulsive action but before he could pull back, Jaren’s lips were moving too, pressing up; eager and pleased.
A soft sound resonated from the back of his throat and Cam released Jaren’s wrists, pulling back to breathe.
He didn’t stray far. Jaren’s lashes fluttered. “Well, that was unexpected,” he murmured. His lips were parted, shining from the kiss. Cam nearly groaned aloud when Jaren thoughtlessly pulled his bottom lip between his teeth.
He composed himself, lifting a hand to rest along Jaren’s jaw. His thumb swiped across his lip, easing it out from between his teeth. “Your lips are soft,” he whispered, mind fuzzy.
A breathless smile beneath him. “That’s what you were lookin’ at, ey?” he asked, tilting his head in the direction of the long-forgotten phone. “You like my lips?”
Awaiting a response. Cam rolled his eyes. “I like ‘em better when they’re quiet,” he corrected, thinking for a moment before adding: “or against mine.” And before Jaren had the chance to respond with something sharp and sassy, he leaned back down and fit their mouths together again.
Fingers lifting to curl around the back of his neck and tangle in his hair, something told him Jaren wasn’t opposed to that idea at all.
spooky season

the room was covered in decorations, not a single spot was empty. the ceilings were filled with fake cobwebs, fake spiders and bats hung around the walls, orange and black tinsel lined the tv stand, and "spooky" bowls of candy laid about in various places. music boomed throughout the place, sending people into different moods with varying songs.
cam stood across the room eyeing his friend, he looked cute under the violet and pink lights. his face was illuminated just perfectly, his rosy cheeks even more prominent in the odd lighting.
"you've been staring at him for a while now." toby startled his friend.
his face felt hot,"no i haven't!" cam defended himself, scratching at the back of his neck.
toby rolled his eyes,"cam, you have and i'm not judging."
cam's lips curled up in the corner of his mouth as he thought to himself. "what a shitty halloween costume for such a cute person."
"yeah it is pretty shitty." toby replied nonchalantly, which definitely caught cam off guard.
"yeah..." cam chuckled awkwardly, he didn't realize he had spoken aloud.
"just fucking talk to him dude, he's been eyeing you too." toby rested his hand on cam's arm as if reassuring him that everything would be okay.
cam simply shrugged his shoulders, unsure of what would come if he did talk to his friend. it wouldn't be weird at all, unless he made it, and cam was feeling very fucking nervous and just so awkward that night, so maybe it would be weird talking to him this time around.
a soft sigh escaped his lips as he looked down at his scuffed shoes. he brought his ugliest simply because they were comfortable and no one would really care.
"i'll leave you to it, but i think you should just go for it." toby spoke softly, the music around them almost drowning out his voice.
cam nodded his head, taking toby's words into consideration, and then quickly toby was no longer by his side.
cam looked back up and around the room, his friend in his shitty costume had gone. a frown found itself on cam's face as he scanned the room to see everyone but the boy he wanted to talk to.
he shoved his hands into his pants pockets and walked off into the kitchen to fetch himself something to drink. the scenery in there was different. the lights were white and only a few fake pumpkins decorated the room for the spooky season.
he then opened the fridge to see bottles and bottles of beers alined neatly, he reached for the cold beverage and then shut the door. turning around on the heal of his foot he stumbled into another body.
"drunk already?" it was his voice.
cam smiled,"not yet smit."
they both stood there for a few seconds, looking into each other's eyes, before they both realized it was too long of an eye contact and too little of a conversation.
"nice costume." smitty really had nothing else to say, he was at a loss for words. cam made him feel something and he wasn't quite sure if it was good or bad.
"ah thanks." cam shuffled on his feet,"you too..?"
"i mean mines pretty shitty if i'm being honest." the canadian shrugged, looking anywhere but cam.
"yeah you're right." cam agreed, instantly regretting it, afraid he may be coming off as an asshole.
smitty chuckled,"i really didn't want to dress up, so ya'know, i'm a hype beast and shit."
"at least you're comfy..?"
"yeah, what about you? why are you a giraffe—i mean other than the fact that you're tall, why that?" smitty asked, easing the conversation to be more calm and less awkward.
"oh, toby convinced me to be a giraffe, honestly it's just because i'm tall as fuck."
"you could've been a eucalyptus tree." the brunette smiled.
"what? those trees koalas live in?" cam furrowed his brows together in confusion, having no idea what his friend was getting at.
smitty giggled,"yeah and i could've been the koala."
"koalas are pretty cute, i could definitely see you as one." cam's attempt at flirting somehow worked, smitty's cheeks flushing with heat.
and after twenty minutes of obvious flirting, cam pussied out, called smitty a fag, and stalked home.
hey, i’m currently heartbroken and hurting so have this really sad one shot i just wrote and published on my wattpad account. (edit: tried to shorten link but tumblr hates me)

“The person you have called is unavailable. Please leave a message, after the tone.”
Beep.
“Cam. Still me. You said you’d be home half an hour ago and you still haven’t sent me a single message. It does not take this long to get your fucking car cleaned. Call me back. Now.”
Beep.
“Cam. For fuck’s sake, can you please call me so I know you’re still alive and you haven’t been kidnapped or murdered or dropped off in Australia.”
Beep.
“I’m going to send out a fucking search party if you don’t get here in the next five seconds.”
To say Jaren was irritated was a slight understatement. He’d been waiting for Cam to return home for around forty minutes, having received no calls or texts about why exactly he was suddenly MIA. With a huff, he dropped his phone on the table and walked from the room in an attempt to stop himself from sending another voicemail to his stupid boyfriend.
Fingers carded through his hair, hands busying themselves with putting dry dishes in their drawers as he tried to tear his mind away from what could have possibly happened to his lover. And when he finally managed to get his train of thought on the week ahead, he heard the familiar sound of the car pulling up and dropped the plastic cup.
“Cam?” He called the name as he opened the front door, scolding words caught in his throat as his eyes landed on his boyfriend. Said words vanished immediately as his eyes widened. “What the fuck happened!?”
Cam stepped out of the car, grimace on his face as soapy water pooled at his feet, running from his clothes and the inside of his car. His hair was plastered to his head and his clothes stuck to his skin. A permanent grimace of displeasure pulled a small smile from Jaren.
He trotted down the steps, shaking his head.
“Why didn’t you pick up my calls!?” he asked, only for Cam to flinch, pulling his phone out of his soaked pants, the black screen slick with moisture. “Oh…”
“How did you…?” Realisation washed over Jaren as he stepped closer, soap suds clinging to Cam’s clothing and the felt covers of the seats drenched. He couldn’t help the snicker that rose in his throat. “Did you have the window down when you went through the car wash?” The sharp glare he received in response was more than enough of an answer, and he giggled, turning back to the house. “I’ll go get towels, stay here.”
When he returned out the front, he threw two towels at Cam who started grumpily patting himself down and trying to dry himself off as much as he could as Jaren walked around him to the open car door, wiping down the seat and console and anywhere else in the car that was wet.
“It jammed and I realised too late that I needed to put the damn thing up…” Cam grumbled dropping his head to Jaren’s shoulder when the shorter man straightened up. He scrunched up his nose, turning and gently nudging the other back away from him.
“I love you an’ all, but you smell like a wet dog,” he said, and Cam frowned, glaring.
“Ass.”
Innocent, dry hands rose. “Go have a shower and dry off, and then we can cuddle up on the couch all you like, okay?”
A roll of pale eyes. A mumble of, “Fine,” falling to the puddle on the pavement as Jaren closed the car door and watched his boyfriend trudge up the path into their house. He couldn’t help his amused grin.
Only his dipshit boyfriend would manage to fuck up that spectacularly.
But as promised, as soon as Cam emerged from the bedroom in warm clothes and a grumpy pout, he tugged the kiwi to the couch and settled between his legs. He laughed as Cam tucked his face into the side of his neck, arms tight around the smaller boy’s waist.
“Feel better?” Jaren asked, reaching a hand back to ruffle Cam’s damp hair. A huff of air washed over his shoulder as Cam tightened his hold on him. “You smell better,” Jaren admitted, grin broad as Cam groaned and ungracefully shoved his boyfriend off his lap. The younger’s laughter didn’t cease as he dropped to the floor.
He pulled himself back onto the couch, leaning over and planting a kiss on Cam’s cheek.
“Love you,” he cooed, snuggling up to his side as Cam folded his arms and ignored him. “Caaam!”
“Fuck off.” Still pouting, he grumbled to himself as he pulled Jaren back onto his lap. “Asshole.” After another few quiet moments of Jaren playing with Cam’s fingers, turning on some Christmas movie for the two to enjoy, Cam rested his chin on Jaren’s shoulder and huffed. “I love you too,” he mumbled, words hardly coherent through his childish tone.
“I know,” he cooed, letting his eyes fall shut as Cam pressed a kiss just below his ear. They fell into a gentle silence, the annoyance slowly washing out of Cam’s system as they watched the movie. And so what if they only got halfway through it. They found each other far more interesting and opted for kissing and cuddling and drowning in one another for the rest of the evening.
