Beautiful day, love writing at the ocean! Makes me think of Fitzgerald, “So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.”
Love the story of this machine. It is a 1955 Smith-Corona Skyriter which was purchased by a 30 year old woman who worked for Smith-Corona in Syracuse New York when it was brand new. She kept it until her death at 88 in 2013. She left the typewriter to her best friend who cherished it until her death. Somehow by fate it ended up in my hands! As I type on it I often wonder what she wrote in it? Why she bought that specific machine when she could have bought any of them? And why she kept it those ensuing 58 years. Well I shall never know the answers, but I shall cherish it as I’m sure she would want me to! #smithcoronaskyriter #stephentowntypewriter #stephentowntypewriterco #stephentowntypewritercompany #typewritersofinstagram @gramercytypewriter https://www.instagram.com/p/CZ2wFRqOU2d/?utm_medium=tumblr
I love this 1953 Smith-Corona Skyriter which belonged to a lady who worked her entire life for Smit-Corona in Syracuse, NY. She bought this when she was 30 years old and kept it for the next 58 years until she passed away at 88. I often wonder what was so special about this machine that made her purchase it inin the first place and keep it for 58 years. What did she write on it? I’ll never know, but it occupies a special place in my collection! #smithcoronaskyriter #tyoewritersofinstagram #gramercytypewriter https://www.instagram.com/p/CRALGBclDl-/?utm_medium=tumblr
Branch Out | Means of Production Note: I get * a lot * of writing done for a number of reasons but partly because like the movement of sharks I keep moving or drown. If one thing isn’t working I move on to something else. It doesn’t mean big, long term projects get the back burner, rather it might mean moving from where you’re stuck to a different part of the manuscript or yes taking a day to leave it aside to write other things. The key in all of this is to keep writing. This is “the” means to an end. #writersofinstagram #writer #smithcoronaskyriter #stetson #hemingwayshortstory (cigar) #heineken Here I’m revising a poetry memoir called Nubivagant. My 1955 Smith-Corona Skyriter which was owned by a lady who worked for Smith-Corona in Syracuse NY, of my two favorite ultraportables for journaling, the other is my 2964 Hermes Rocket. #smithcoronaskyriter #smithcoronatypewriter #hermesrocket #typewriter #typewritersofinstagram #gramercytypewriter #journaling #writer https://www.instagram.com/p/CC1xDZhlLRE/?igshid=bgw4m9dyutoq
I give you Edna S. Ferris’s Smith Corona Skyriter. Edna was a lifelong employee of the Smith Corona Company, shortly before she passed away at the age of 88 in 2013, she gave her Skyriter to her best friend who kept it until her death recently. I was able to acquire it from her grandson. The Skyriter is literally in immaculate, like new condition as you can see by these photos. It came with the original manual and instruction sheet, still in the original plastic, and the best part, her name was barely attached to the case with an old skool label maker! I love finding typewriters that have a story and this one certainly does! #smithcoronaskyriter #smithcoronatypewriter #typewriter (at Stephentown, New York) https://www.instagram.com/p/B3gACLWnRQ8/?igshid=1w57t2ly23xjs
