A little psa about themes on this blog. I’ve never stated this publicly before but if you’ve been following smcempathy for a while then you already know this: On this blog I do senshi theme weeks. They’re not random. Each theme runs for almost two weeks where I show you their depth of character and why they’re awesome.
I’ve been doing this all along. I use theme week to tell a story, bring out a certain trait, make a statement, take a stand..etc. Each character builds on the last, paralleling, influencing, supporting, telling their story. There are many, many reasons why I do this. Some weeks are a little more obvious than others, some are minimalist.
(Something to think about if you ever go back through the archive and notice a certain character or recognize certain patterns or parallels.)
My point? The creator of SM, Naoko Takeuchi, created characters that are so deep, so connected to each other and intertwined to one another that it can become incredibly complex. Since she does this effortlessly, it is also often overlooked.
Since SMC is a reboot adapting the shoujo manga, there’s a subtlety to her characters there also. It’s important to remember there are only 38 acts of material out now and the show is far, far from over. In fact, it’s just building up steam. The new sequel of SMC is about to be one wild ride. Are you ready for it?
