DD: I don't play the guitar on stage because I'm kind of self-taught on the guitar; so, I have an inability to play it the same way twice, which is not very nice for my band. So, I write the songs. And I sing, in my fashion.

First Interviewer: So on stage, you have no guitar as a crutch--

DD: I have nothing to do with my hands, if that's where you're going. Y'know, you hold on to that mic stand for dear life, is what happens. It's like a life jacket.

Interviewers: [Laughing.]

Second Interviewer: You're like Liam Gallagher, who does that--

DD: Liam is amazing; because.... Y'know, when I first started performing live, I just thought, 'Well, I'm like the emcee. I want people to have a good time,' y'know. And I'm dancing around, making a fool of myself. It was actually my wife [that] said to me, 'Y'know, you don't have to move around so much.'

Interviewers: [Chuckling, sympathetic "Oh no"s.]

DD: And then I saw Liam; and Liam is just still. He's just still-- he's even got his hands behind his back, for the most part. And it's really, really powerful to be still.

First Interviewer: What were you doing to pay the bills while you were, uh, 'swing-and-a-miss"ing?

DD: I'd do commercials. I would get commercials, yeah.

First Interviewer: So, no waiting tables? No bartending?

DD: I bartended. Um, I catered.
