Dean: Of course, I have a few conditions.
Zachariah: What?
Dean: The few people whose safety you have to guarantee before I say yes.
Zachariah: Sure, fine. Make a list.
Dean: But most of all…Michael can’t have me until he disintegrates you.
Zachariah: What did you say?
Dean: I said…before Michael gets one piece of this sweet ass…he has to turn you into a piece of charcoal.
Zachariah: You really think Michael’s gonna go for that?
Dean: Who’s more important to him now? You…or me?
Zachariah: You listen to me. You are nothing but a maggot inside a worm’s ass. Do you know who I am…after I deliver you to Michael?
Dean: Expendable.
Zachariah: Michael’s not gonna kill me.
Dean: Maybe not. But I am.
– 5x18 – Point of No Return
We don't talk enough about this scene, when Dean plays Zachariah and makes sure to take the scornful angel down a peg or two before killing him.
Anyway, I love Dean 💚
stalking varous tags of your tags of your and re: smart dean --> people love to act like dean is the dumb brother and sam is the smart brother rather than dean is the educationally neglected brother and sam is the brother that benefitted from deans protection and thus was able to focus on learning. but whatever its fine
exactlyyy you get it
like dean never got the chance to excel in school. he started training to hunt younger than sam did. he also had to be responsible for sam's safety and be a caretaker too while just being a kid himself. also worrying about money and food. that would be so exhausting for a kid. school was the last thing on his mind. but just because he didn't devote himself to his studies and just because he dropped out before graduating doesn't mean he's stupid. and we see time and time again just how smart dean is, from his tech savvy skills to his great intuition and his ability to think on the fly and come up with solutions and figure out patterns that help solve the case of the week.
let us never forget dean is so so tech savvy. first of all, thee emf reader. he just, figured out how to make that shit. second of all, in the pilot when he’s talking abt John’s voicemail and the evp he says he ran it through Goldwave which was a pretty advanced software at the time. then there’s s7 where he’s mentored by Frank and taught how to be a hacker and he picks it all up super fast. and dean hacking into traffic cams in s12. like just because he might not be super Online in a social media context (until the mommy blogging era) and even though he prefers older tech for nostalgia reasons, he’s still incredibly smart and skilled when it comes to technology. he knows his way around a computer ok. he’s still gonna downplay those skills and scoff at technology and pretend he’s not a nerd, not AV club. but it’s a front, it’s a bit. he’s telling you “no I’m not a tech nerd” while showing you all his cool tech nerd tricks
oh grt. Dean wouldn't know what an Achilles heel is. Sure. Why not.
Hate crime. A hate crime.

You know about Medusa???!
.....why on earth wudnt he know. Mf been hunting since he was old enough to like hug ppl of his own volition🙄. Also; HE READS.
S7 is prime smart Dean content.
Dean handling everything Frank-related by himself. Dean learning computer things that Sam gets jealous of. Dean sitting in a cafe at night while it rains, getting frustrated trying to investigate the Leviathans and their corporate moves and dealings, while being practically naked coz he's only wearing three layers instd of the usual 20. He even has his laptop and lil bag! He's drinking coffee while dimpling at the laptop.
Dean bantering with Frank about what he does and doesn't know.
"Can a dog play poker?"
"I don't-"
"The answer is yes."
Dean being laser focused on taking down Dick and figuring out the coordinates and all, because Bobby fucking died for it. Dean giving Sam a break and handling the work by himself. Dean being resourceful as hell trying to look for answers to heal Sam. Dean running around staring down and threatening and intimidating every Leviathan he comes across, while gathering important information and putting together their plans.
Dean wearing fun lil costume again (this has ntg to do with smart dean, this is just my bonus hehe).
I'll keep adding, I'm sure.
Overall, its just a whole season of Dean who's been pushed past his absolute limits and still being smart and resourceful and beautiful and panicked and tired and sad and attractively threatening and irreverent. Again. And I'm in love. Again.
Thinking about how Dean says he's good at reading people in 3x03 (soo true babygirl) and how, even without luck on his side he gets through to this guy because he can in fact read him and appeals to his sense of morals:
DEAN: When you lose the foot that luck goes sour. That's what killed your friend. And my brother here is next. And who knows how many more innocent people after that. Now if you don't help us stop this thing, that puts those deaths on your head. GROSSMAN looks worried. DEAN: Now I can read people ... and I get it. You're a thief, and a scumbag, that's fine. But you're not a killer. Are you? GROSSMAN: (Whispered) No.
And then later in Bela's apartment he gets the read on her. She's selfish. Only looking out for number one. Dean tries to get her to care, explaining his brother is going to die. He thinks he can appeal to her like he did Grossman. Through pathos, though a sense of morality, empathy, goodness. But it doesn't work. So he plays her game and tricks her, stealing the rabbit's foot back and giving himself a lucky streak.
But then later in the cemetery, he gets a little too comfortable in his luck. When Bela shows up he starts quoting himself from earlier, with Grossman, thinking the same speech will work just as well again, despite knowing that's not Bela's way. Because surely it will work this time. He's lucky!
DEAN: No. You're not going to shoot anybody. See I happen to be able to read people. OK, you're a thief, fine, but you're not— BELA ignores DEAN, aims at SAM and fires. SAM goes down, groaning.
And Dean is like, what the heck man you can't just shoot people! Bela is like har har we've all shot people. But Dean is like, there are lines. There are principles. But Bela doesn't operate like him. And he knows this. He'd figured her out already, back at her apartment. She's only looking out for herself. So, he quickly changes gears and does some very quick thinking and--tosses her the foot! And now that she's bound to have luck turn on her she'll do what benefits her which is destroying the foot. He played her at her own game and won. (But she had to have the last word, stealing his scratch-offs).
