I should mention I have a weakness for small animal society stories. I kind kept thinking it be cool if this was a secret of NIHM/Planet of the Apes type scenario. Like most of the humans are gone and it takes place in the abandoned ruins of a city by the forest. All the smaller mammals have developed human like intelligence and have added what we consider civilization to their lifestyle. The Lower Quarter is really just a junk yard where they confine those deemed ‘less civilized’. It’s a junkyard town made of scraps. Also clothes are a status symbol as well as any object that looks like it’s actually been crafted and manufactured from the ground up since for the most part it’s easier to just repurpose junk.
All the knights where armor specialized for each animal to provide optimal safety. Most common is a leather or metal band around the neck since animals instinctively tend to aim there and nights are mostly fighting snakes or unintelligent creatures. Weapons tend to just be repurposed from human junk since they still haven’t gotten smelting down and there a lot sharp pointy things they can use. Flynn’s sword was pulled off a very large dnd mini and is made of lead.
I also liked the idea that Yuri’s hair is just a black streak down his back. His ear is chipped and Yuri says it was a fight but Flynn knows for a fact it’s because he tripped on a glass bottle during a scavenging. Instead of the gold bracelet he wears a repurposed decoder ring as an earing to make it look like a stylistic choice.
