Some small ways to foster a cozy life. Kitchen edition:
*Create a drink station so your comforting, nourishing beverage of choice is always at hand. An electric kettle nestled with jars of herbal teas and a pot of honey with your favorite thrifted mug. If you prefer coffee, what about a grouping few dishes of interesting spices, like cinnamon sticks, star anise, and cardamom pods, or vanilla sugar near your coffe maker to mix up your regular brew?
*Compost! Don’t be intimidated. Really, really, you just need some dirt in an out of the way place that you can dig into and add your veggie scraps (and tea dregs and coffee grounds) to. Keep a bowl in the kitchen that you add to through the day and empty at night. You can always start small. I use it as an opportunity to connect and thank the dirt for how life sustaining it is.
*Take the time to boil or bake a big batch of some sort of root vegetable once a week - potatoes, beets, sweet potatoes, turnips. Then, keep them on hand for whipping up nourishing cottage fare. Mash up a bowl of sweet potatoes with cinnamon, cardamom, and black pepper and a drizzle of melted coconut oil for a healthy dessert. Or, maybe you could sauté some bacon and add kale and some chopped cooked potatoes for a healthy, quick hash. For a veggie option, start with mushrooms sautéed in olive oil and a drizzle of balsamic.
