A (relatively) popular way to consume newly harvested small potatoes in Japan. ♬
If you grow potatoes in your veggie garden, you will inevitably get some small potatoes. Those are too small to sell or give to your friends. What do you do with them if you don't want to throw them away?
The other day, there was a small potato-harvesting event in our veggie garden, a.k.a. “zombie garden.” I wasn’t there then, but my friends and friend’s sons dug up the potatoes, cooked them on site and had a great time, I heard.
Anyway, they didn’t use the small potatoes then and gave most of them to me later. :D
Now, here's one way to consume such small ones in Japan. And I tell you. This is sooooooooo great with beer!! :D Step 1:
Place the washed and unpeeled potatoes in a frying pan. Add water just to cover the bottom half of the potatoes. Heat until they are tender inside. (It's like boiling and steaming at the same time?) STEP 2:
Drain the potatoes and clean the pan. Fry them with vegetable oil until their skin is golden brown, at least partially. ;) STEP 3:
Mix miso, soy sauce, sugar, sake, mirin (rice wine) and sesame seeds. I used 1.5 tablespoon of miso and the same amount of sugar, and less amount for each of other ingredients. I just kept adding little by little until I liked the taste. Heat the mixture in a frying pan until it bubbles, then add the potatoes to coat them with the sauce.

Let me repeat this again: IT'S GREAT WITH BEER!!! :D :D .
