Yuusuke Amade tells the story about the monster that attacked him. I absolutely love this part, it looks like a completely different genre than Sailor Moon! Kunihiko Ikuhara actually quite often uses this story-in-story method with different type of animation and in different genre than the rest of the episode.Â
This part is straight from some horror manga. With no dialogue, very little movement, red colours, shadows, interesting angles. Squeeeeee!! ♡♡♡ It’s scary and dramatic and stylish and impressive and in character!
Also, I looove the use of the pink umbrella! Akiko told Yuusuke to take her umbrella, because it was raining and he didn’t have one. She says that it’s “the pink one at the entrance” (I love that she tells him which one and where, because tv shows and anime often forget to provide necessary explanation like “let’s go see that movie”, “let’s meet at the theater”, “take my umbrella”. It lacks realism and makes you go “what movie?!” “what theater and when?!” “Which one is yours?!”). Anyways, Amade is walking around without an umbrella, Akiko tells him to take hers, and then later he bumps into Usagi without an umbrella again. Here we find out the destiny of the umbrella. And it looks so cool and somehow symbolic. Like a stylish detail, which is at the same time a proud little piece of continuity. Again, very cinematic. I love this episode and Kunihiko Ikuhara!
