Software development: important skills, redux
John Pereless suggests four skills software developers should possess: solving problems, teaching yourself, naming (entities in code) and dealing with people.Â
All well and good, but mine are better, more realistic, and better in line with the principles of Slothful Development:
Quick reflexes on Alt-Tab* so you can look like you're working at a moment's notice;
Ability to come up with convincing technical-sounding bullshit so you can take two days writing four lines of boilerplate code and make it sound like you did something useful;
Ability to code quickly and effectively so you can get your day's work done in the first hour and then doss for the rest of the day;
Spliff-rolling skills.
* Or Cmd-Tab on the Mac.
