Otra de Zones, de los que ya hablamos recientemente, de su único LP "Under Influence" (Arista 1979). De las cenizas del glam rock - de donde provenían bajo el nombre Slik- parece alzarse desde su mismo título "Mainman", balada épica que retoma las mejores esencias del glam en su vertiente dramática- melancólicoreable, las de "All The Young The Dudes" de David Bowie, "Saturday Gigs" de Mott The Hopple o "Perfect Day" de Lou Reed, esas que de alguna manera acabarían retomando Oasis en los 90 en cosas como "Don´t Look Back In Anger" (importante no mirar al pasado con rencor...). "Under Influence" es un álbum que no ha vuelto a ser reeditado en vinilo y que jamás ha sido editado en CD. Error, porque tiene muchas más chicha que muchos elepés de más nombre del periodo punk- new wave. Muy recomendado.
"Mourning Star", otro de los mejores cortes del LP "Under Influence" (Arista, 1979) de Zones. Es curioso de que manera esta canción anticipa "Hymn" de Ultravox, con el viejo compañero de Zones- PVC2- Slik, Midge Ure, ya en sus filas. "Hymn" y "The Voice" fueron los temas con los que Ultravox intentaron reeditar el tremendo éxito de "Vienna".
"Mourning Star" hay que escucharla, eso sí, en la versión larga del álbum de cuatro minutos y medio mejor que en la single editada a sólo 2' 26", un error. En su cara B, el sencillo llevaba la canción "Under Influence" que, aunque tituló el único LP de la banda, no fue parte del mismo.
Zones, de las cenizas de los punk PVC2 y del chicleglam de Slik. Cuando Midge Ure les dejó para crear Rich Kids con Glen Matlock encontraron en Willie Gardner, primo de Alex Harvey, el sustituto idóneo y publicaron en 1978-79 cuatro singles y el LP "Under Influence" con cuatro portadas distintas con arte de Paul Henry ("Stupidity", "Rattus Norvergicus", "No More Heroes") y con la cara de cada uno de los miembros ilustrando las respectivas contraportadas. Un buen álbum de new wave entre lo viejo - el power pop de "You're Not Foolin' Me"- y lo nuevo.
