SOME THOUGHTS ON THE FINALE OF SEASON 4 OF TLOVM
I found both scanlan and pike kind of frustrating this season (which isnt me saying that the writing or characters are bad! I think it's fine to have frustrations with fictional actions!)
Scanlan always pushed everyone away and deflected, then initiated the split and stayed away from everyone, and didnt go to the coronation upon invitation (most of these are entirely in character, and i can appreciate a character being a hypicrite)
Pike never voiced her frustrations with the party, didnt object to the split, didnt mention she felt abandoned or nothing (which considering the tendencies of the entire party to never talk about stuff, as well as the urgency and suddenness of everything, makes some sense)
...but it is ... so frustrating how these two "laments" happened so close to one another, without really showing the party being particularly dismissive towards the issues of any one character (actually, it has been shown that, once brought up, the gang are mostly willing to drop everything to help any one of their members)
I may be too petty/bad at people to fully sympathize here; i just think generally, that trust/caring is a two way thing - you gotta open up your mouth instead of expecting people to intuit that you need them to grill you on your feelings
It is just, idk, a one year agreed upon split, with 2/7 people staying in an easily accessible location to allow visiting, is not betrayal? Nor is it abandonment? People expecting the only person with consistent healing powers to heal isnt exploitation (esp. If they havent ever implied discomfort with it)? Coming to see your friend after a year of no contact he himself initiated (and after he declined to show up for a previous event) to ask for the incredibly powerful weapon he keeps (and/or his help) to defeat a sudden and extremely immediate threat (when that has been sth you as a group have done before) isnt callous?
...
Idk what i am trying to say. I dont mean to say the writing is bad , just that these two instances of characters getting (what reads to me as) a "righteous anger moment" frustrated me. Esp. since i am not sure the writers want me to disagree with pike/scanlan or be on their side (this is probably a me issue/my media literacy failing)
I welcome dissenting opinions on this (pls be polite, tho)
I have no friends that watch the show but many thoughts on it, so i put some of 'em here :')
((May be q stretch but sth about "character upset friends want/need something from them but never voices upset" reads as deeply US-"you dont owe anyone anything! In fact your friends are bad and evil if they ever ask anything of you or dont centre your emotions!"-American to me...but yeah this might be an extremely uncharitable leap of intepretation of me))
