7 and 93?
7 - The Sound of Silence - Cinematic Pop, ft Mckenna Breinholt
This is the best Sound of Silence cover.
Yes, I know that’s a controversial claim, YES I am making it anyways. Technically the reason this has such a high ranking is because I used it on my Fjord playlist (half because I think it’s the funniest thing in the world that on Travis Willingham’s “official” Fjord one there’s a direct transition from the original Sound of Silence to How Far I’ll Go from Moana -- what a statement about him as a character, honestly -- and while the latter wasn’t going to fit in my own playlist I figured I could totally find a spot for a version of the first), but like. It is an incredible cover on its own merit.
Orchestral covers are a weak spot of mine anyways (my violist is showing), but Sound of Silence is such a good candidate for one, and the slow build it does into a resounding crescendo before the just, complete drop?? I’m losing it a little just thinking about it. The strings section can go a little feral, as a treat.
93 - Kings and Centipedes - Stepdad
I honestly don’t even remember listening to this one much but. We love a good upbeat bop, right? Sometimes you have to have them waiting on shuffle, for a some spice.
