In this art, it depicts Macaque sleeping in a mysterious space. What space is that exactly? His shadows. Typically during expeditions or fatigue or injury, he would slip in his shadows and sleep right inside of it. The souls trapped on his shadows will get to see him, not speak or move, just see him sleep. How he avoids that problem is by swimming deeper into the space. It's like a domain only Macaque can access himself, not just his powers of shadow that he uses for transportation and captivity.
