***Heritage*** Getting in the mood for Samhain and I finally had a chance to get my hands on a copy of the poetically gorgeous prose of Robert MacFarlane's writing; specifically his book "Landmarks," which is full of his exploration of Britain's linguistic and literary terrain and the links to the natural landscapes. A lot of these words are nearly dead and most no longer are in dictionaries, since our world is so much less in tune with nature and more and more globally citified. Various words used today came from his collected lexicon as well as two prompts: Terra nullius is Latin for "nothing land" Landskein is from the Hebrides and means the blue horizon lines over hills on a hazy day. Wolfsnow refers to a dangerous sea blizzard also from the Hebrides area.
