SLC PUNK
What is slcpunk??
OH BUDDY AM I HERE TO GIVE YOU AN ESSAY. I should warn that this is a movie thats rated r.
SLC Punk! is a 1999 cult classic film that stars Matthew Lillard and Michael Goorjian. Its about two punks living in Salt Lake City Utah in the 80s and early 90s. It highlights the hardcore era of the alternative scene.
Steveo is the narrator and his goal is to quote "rot his brain" as a form of anarchy and breaking societal norms. His father is a lawyer and his mother is a bit of a pushover. They want him to go to law school to follow in his fathers footsteps, while he doesnt want to do that, seeing it as a way of conformity. The movie follows Steveo and his closer friends around while they navigate being young adults in the punk scene of Utah. It reaches a head when Steveo starts to question his beliefs as a punk and his life choices that bring him to where he was.
Is this a good movie? Yes absolutely, it highlights what it was like to be a punk kid in the Regan era. Its hard hitting and gets serious. It shows that being a punk came in different forms. Do I enjoy the overarching message about conformity as a whole? No I dont and I could totally go more into that if given the chance. But that would require me to spoil this amazing movie.
