30 Days of Character Development! Day 1. FINAL ROUND
And the last ten, to bring everything full circle. Or not. Whatever.
21.) What would your character’s  cutie mark be?
…oh Bronies. *sigh*..I guess a sickle with a small gout of flame inside of the arc of the blade?
22.) If your character could time travel, where would they go?
Likely back to certain Gate-related deaths and stop it.
23.) Is your character superstitious?Â
About certain things. For instance, never trust a stranger with silver and a smile.Â
24.) What might your character’s ideal romantic partner be?
While he really shouldn't be in any sort of relationship due to his kind of massive anger and self-loathing issues…he finds himself mostly attracted to tough women, those that can take care of themselves and don't need to be saved.Â
25.) Describe your character’s hands. Are they small, long, calloused, smooth, stubby?
His hands are kind of squarish and sturdy. Everything's sized to proportion, but there's a lot of callousing on his palms and fingertips. At any given time, he'll probably have a multitude of bruises and scratching across them.
26.) Second day of favorites! Favorite comfort food, favorite vice, favorite outfit, favorite hot drink, favorite time of year, and favorite holiday.Â
As stated previously, spicy fruedkin stew. Boozeahol (up until drinking it became dangerous health-wise). He's extremely fond of a ratty old grey shirt with patched up sleeves and pouts every time Nemashi suggested he toss it out instead of making her patch it up further. Spiced hard cider/regular cider. Autumn. None of them.
27.) Pick two songs that describe your character at two different points of their life, and explain why you chose them.Â
UH. I actually had this worked out. I don't remember them that clearly, but I think the first is Selfish Man by Flogging Molly. I picked this because it's basically what he is through most of his life, though gradually it become obvious that some of the snark and assholery are show. It's a thing he doesn't actively try to change until later, but it proves difficult despite any of his efforts to NOT BE A DICK all the time. Also, originally, Slaude was from a coastal town and his father was a sailor, so those themes played into it all as well. That has since been changed to mining town and miner, BUT OH WELL, I KEPT IT ANYWAY.
The second was Fine Again by Seether. There's a reason, but at current moment I don't freaking remember it off-hand. Something about recovery being bittersweet? BLUH BLUH FEELINGS.
28.) If your character’s life was a genre, what would it be?
Equal parts shitty-drama and action.
29.) How does your character smell? Do they wear perfume or cologne?Â
Most of the time, that depends on his state of cleanliness. In his later years, he has a lingering scent of burning leaves, but this isn't due to any sort of makeup.
30.) And finally: Write a letter to your character, from yourself.Â
Hey, Asshole.
Thanks for being so fun to write, and for being a character I kept wanting to tweak and improve upon instead of just trash completely, despite your extremely TRAGIC ORIGIN STORY beginnings. You made me realize the protagonist doesn't necessarily have to be a nice person, which I guess should have been an obvious thing. I would never want to be your friend, but you are so much fun to work on. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK, JERKASS.
Hugs.
30 Days of Character Development! Day 1. Part 2
Here's the next ten questions. This seems to work.
11.) Is there an animal you equate with your character?Â
He likes rabbits. Or rather their in-World equivalent. As for one I might associate with him, ah…probably something small and aggressive. Like a fisher cat.
12.) How is your character with technology? Super savvy, or way behind the times? Letters or email?Â
His world actually developed differently thanks to the saturation of magic and magic-usage. He flat out hates all sorts of wizardry, and later on when steampower and such are developed, he acts like a cranky old man about it. Why do we need electric lights? What's wrong with candles? Do you little goblin-shits enjoy putting honest chandlers out of business? And so on.
13.) What does your character’s bed look like when he/she wakes up? Are the covers off on one side of the bed, are they all curled around a pillow, sprawled everywhere? In what position might they sleep?
If he fell asleep drunk (which is usually) he can be in any number of positions, though often sprawled all over the place, with no concern for proper blanket or pillow placement. If he went to sleep sober (only later), he usually sleeps on his side and cocoons himself in his covers. Leftover habits from living far to the north.
14.) Â How does your character react to temperature changes such as extreme heat and cold?Â
Slaude takes the cold like it isn't even any shit. Given he was born and raised mostly in a snowy, mountain mining town, he is more then accustomed to freezing weather. HEAT on the other hand, he'll grumble and bitch about until someone shuts him up or throws water on him.Â
15.) Is your character an early morning bird or a night owl?Â
Usually a night owl, but he'll drag himself up early if it's required for a job.
16.) Are there any blood relatives that your character is particularly close with, besides the immediate ones? Cousins, Uncles, Grandfathers, Aunts, et cetera. Are there any others that your character practically considers a blood relative?Â
No actual blood relatives, though he and Gren would probably consider themselves brothers in spirit.
17.) What’s your character’s desk/workspace look like? Are they neat or messy?
Slaude's a mercenary without a home office, so he doesn't really have much of a "workspace". That being said, if he's not completely smashed, he picks up after himself.
18.) Is your character a good cook? What’s their favorite recipe, whether they’re good or not? (Microwave mac-and-cheese applies.)
Slaude's a decent cook, though the extent of his skills are simple meals so he doesn't starve to death when he's on jobs or waste all his money. His favorite thing forever is spicy fruedkin (basically rabbit-rats) stew.
19.) What’s your character’s preferred means of travel?
He can ride mounts, though prefers walking mainly. He'll only travel by other means if he needs to get somewhere quickly. Definitely does not want magic involved in his transport.
20.) Does your character have any irrational fears?Â
Bees.
OK. Ok. So.
I found a 30 day character build prompt...dealy. I found it here. I actually filled the whole thing out already for one character, I was GOING to just post it all at once and do the whole thing for 30 different characters, but tumblr has denied me this twice now. So. I am going to break this first one up into sections and hope I can queue up the rest and have them post over the next few hours. Pictures will follow today or tomarrow.
Ok.
1.) Describe your character’s relationship with their mother or their father, or both. Was it good? Bad? Were they spoiled rotten, ignored? Do they still get along now, or no?
Slaude's father left a few years after his brother was born, for reasons that were never fully disclosed to either of the boys. His mother handled the resulting stress of increasing monetary problems and raising two young boys alone poorly, and her health, both mental and physical, deteriorated rapidly. Slaude coped with this in the method similar to how he ended up coping with most of his problems: He got angry. Angry at his father, his mother, himself and generally anything else within lashing distance. As to whether or not he still gets along with them, well. He never cared much to track down his father, and his mother is dead. He regrets having never really apologized to her for being such a little shit when he was younger.
2.) What are your characters most prominent physical features?
That's actually pretty tough, he's half-elven, and has weird, tri-colored hair but neither of these things are very odd if you take into context the world he lives in. If I absolutely had to pick something it would be the huge-ass tattoo all over his back and arms. Despite the fact he is rarely shirtless so its not seen much. It is important to note, however, that it's the source of his only real "super power", being that it acts as a magical sinkhole and negates the effects of spells to him. Eventually he can expand that effect into an aura and create a null zone. He won't do this unless he has to, and even then it's with a lot of bitching.Â
3.) Name one scar your character has, and tell us where it came from. If they don’t have any, is there a reason?
Rather large, gnarly scar on his right shoulder near the tail end of his collarbone. He got (gets) it in a rather nasty brawl with his then-antagonist, after taking a knife to the …chest …shouldery area. Since magic has little to no effect on him, healy spells did basically nothing and he had to recover the "normal" way. It still hurts to rotate that arm too far back.
4.) How vain is your character? Do they find themselves attractive?Â
Everyone has a bit of ego, but he basically hates himself, so he'll just grunt and act like he didn't hear that question.
5.) What’s your character’s ranking on the Kinsey Scale?Â
HMM. I don't actually like the Scale for these sort of things. So I guess all I'll say is he's very much into girls and all of their jiggly bits, but he makes friends with guys easier. Specifically, large scaly lizard-guys.Â
6.) Describe your character’s happiest memory.Â
UH. Have to reach real far back. When he was a wee thing, Slaude's mother used to take him for walks through the woods along the river and they'd eat lunch at the banks and watch fish and he'd splash around in the shallows looking for river rocks. He'd take these home, and at night when his father got back from the Mine, would show them off. His father'd explain what type of stone each one was and would point out how rare any were and tousle his hair all fatherly like. Slaude was always really proud when he found one with jasper or something in it.
7.) Is there one event or happening your character would like to erase from their past? Why?Â
OH LAWD. How about all of it from about 17 to 30whatever? All of that? Total copout answer but he really is not happy with his life until after certain Gate-related events.
8.) Day of Favorites! What’s your character’s favorite ice cream flavor? Color? Song? Flower?Â
Mint, cerulean, he doesn't much care about music, and seriously flowers are horrid, why would anyone like them? He thinks semi-precious stones are neat though.
9.) Â Who does your character trust?
His lizard-bro, Gren. And he'd never actually admit to it, but eventually Nemashi and his employer, Jackal.
10.) Can you define a turning point in your character’s life? Multiples are acceptable.Â
His (rather brief) incarceration in the northern prisons, Gate-related events.
