You wouldnt think that many bones went into a Bird skull would you?
When processing its easy to lose tiny bones. Its why for different species we opt for different cleaning methods.
Tiny birds like Goldcrest and Wren we may use the peroxide and pick method. Some folk might use beetle cleaning on birds like these Pheasants in an attempt to stop them falling apart.
I usually flick between peroxide and marceration, in this instance we know that game birds are notoriously greasey so we'll have to degrease once the flesh is all gone.
This process if youve beetle cleaned for example could be done using ammonia or acetone to try and keep remaining tissues intact. But since we've marcerated we dont have to worry and can go straight for your average washing up liquid mix.
