Christen Dalsgaard (Oct. 30, 1824 - 1907) was a Danish painter of the National Romantic school. Preferring nostalgic scenarios involving peasants in old-fashioned garb engaged in quaint activities, Dalsgaard was definitely on the conservative side of the art spectrum in the 19th century in Denmark. He also liked to repeatedly paint sentimental pieces with girls pining for letters from their beloved and other genre painting set pieces. I prefer his delicate landscapes...
He studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in the 1840s and returned there as a titular professor in the 1890s. His work is at Statens Museum for Kunst in Copenhagen and the Swedish National Museum in Stockholm.
