Hi!! May I request a Wild/Tears x reader oneshot? This one has some backstory to it!
Two years ago, I read a fic where Wild and the reader secretly got married before the calamity, since they were scared of losing eachother. Instead of using their rings on the finger, they put it in a necklace and kept it hidden beneath their normal clothing.
With Zelda living with Link in TOTK, how long would they manage to hide their relationship from Zelda? I'd love to see how you would manage this out!
Thanks!
I am SO sorry this took so long! But here it is and I hope you enjoy! (Also the ending is a tiny bit rushed but I just really wanted to get this out!)
Away from Royal Eyes
(BoTW Link x reader)
Notes: I made it so they aren't married but they are obviously together <3
It had been well over a week since you had last seen him, wrapped up in his arms as tears fell onto his blue Champion tunic. Kissing him goodbye before watching from the village steps as he walked away towards what could only be a new beginning or tragic end. Days of mindlessly going about your day, trying to not think about the horrid things that he could be facing at any given moment. But you had faith in him to keep his promise, that he would come back to you after it had all been put to rest.
So you waited patiently, keeping an ever watchful eye on the path leading up to the village as you went about your life.
And one day, he finally came.
You had raced to the front of your village from your home the moment you had clocked the familiar shade of blue. Tears filling your eyes the moment he fully broke through the tree line.
He was alive! It unfortunately looked like you couldn’t say he was unharmed, but he was alive and more importantly he was here!
But then you noticed his horse and the girl sat upon its back.
Link was home
But so was she.
_____________
“Thank you! Come again!”
As the last customers of your midday rush leave, you release the pent up air in your lungs, stretching out the ache in your back from standing in the same spot for the past few hours. The shop, and Hateno village in general, had been busier as of late which was great for business but not so much for your feet. But, it paid the bills and there had yet to be any disgruntled customers today so it was a win in your book.
The small bell over the door rang and you slapped on your most welcoming smile. “Welcome! Take a- Oh! Good morning you two!”
You watched as Zelda strolled cheerfully into the shop, waving hello before beelining it towards some of your more rare merchandise. Link lingered by the door, looking over the closest basket with a slightly bored expression until his eyes flicked over to you. You smiled softly, averting your gaze when you felt heat rush to your cheeks, missing the way he smiled back.
Attempting to make yourself look busy you grabbed one of the small baskets nearby, offering it to Zelda who already had a small handful of things cradled in her arms. “What brings you two in today?”
She carefully placed the items in the bag, turning back to the newly acquired tomatoes you had gotten in just a day ago. “Just needed a few things for the room we’re building. I told you about it the other day, remember?”
“The one in the well?”
Zelda nodded, tossing in a few building supplies into the bag along with some other seemingly random ingredients. “That's the one! We’ve officially carved out all the necessary space and now we just need to build the deck! Plus, Link has been talking about this new recipe he's been wanting to try so we figured today was a good day to test it out! You don't happen to have any spicy peppers do you?”
“I should still have a few in the back. Let me go and look!
You walked away, brushing Link's shoulder with a whispered ‘excuse me’ as you passed. His eyes trailing after you as you disappeared into the small storage room behind the counter.
Once completely out of sight, you had to take a moment to breathe, leaning your back against the wall as you tried to calm down. You would never get used to the rush that came every time you saw him. The longing looks, short touches in passing, and whispered words all adding to the thrill of secrecy that was your relationship with the hero.
Still, no amount of thrill could keep the longing at bay. Wishing you could stroll up to him at any moment to simply place your hand in his. Be the one by his side to run mundane errands or enjoy a meal together. To go back to the way things used to be before everyone began putting all this pressure on him to resume his role as Zelda’s personal knight.
It wasn't that Link opposed the idea outright. He wanted to help, and to be there for Zelda as they tried to regain what had been lost all those years ago. To reshape the kingdom into something that would thrive for centuries to come. It was admirable work and after all that he went through it made sense that he wanted to continue to protect what he fought so hard for.
But he wasn't the stoic knight he had to be back then. He was adventurous, and playful. Had found his voice that for so long he thought was lost. It didn't feel right to go back to the way things used to be. Not entirely, not when he loved the way things were now. Coming and going as he pleased, actually having a say in things that mattered and most importantly to him, staying by your side.
But Impa had been…insistent.
She would go on for hours about how it was Link’s duty to stay by Zelda's side no matter what. And it didn't help when Robbie and Purah began to push the issue as well, though they were more open to changes in said role than Impa was. Each time, he explained exactly why he was so hesitant. And one time he finally admitted that it wasn't about them, or Hyrule, or even Zelda. He just didn't want to leave you.
He didn't speak for nearly 3 days after that argument. And thus the two of you took what you could and kept it all a secret. To keep the peace and Links sanity, leaving Impa to believe things had ended while no one else knew things had ever started to begin with.
You sighed, pushing off the wall to grab the last of the peppers to bring back out, holding them in your arms as you re-enter the room. “Here we are!” You said, making sure to keep your voice light and cheerful. “You're in luck too, it seems I’ll need to get some more soon.”
“Wonderful!” Zelda bounded over to the small counter with her basket full of other goods. Link coming up beside her as you check them out.
“So what is this new recipe of yours?” You asked, trying not to think too hard about the way Link was quietly watching you work, snapping up when he realized your question was directed at him.
“Oh uhh, it's a soup.”
“Well I hope it turns out! Though you've always been a great cook Link, so I'm sure you don't really need it.” You said looking over to Link who was now rubbing at his neck sheepishly.
“You should come! Link always makes plenty and then I could show you the room we've been working on!”
“Oh n-no I couldn't impose like that!”
“Nonsense!” Zelda shouted, grabbing your hands. “I insist! Please?”
You looked at her, glancing over to Link who looked slightly panicked before giving Zelda a hesitant smile. “I..I guess I could stop by for a bi-”
“Perfect!” She shouted, scooping up the bag and heading towards the door. “Well see you tonight!” Grabbing onto Link's wrist she darted out the door. Link looked back at you for only a moment, almost apologetically, before he was yanked out of sight.
Dumbfounded, you stood there for a moment, wrapping your head around what you had just agreed to. It was hard enough to keep your calm during short interactions like this! And now you were going to have to be with them, with her for probably a few hours trying to keep up the facade?
Oh you were in so much trouble.
You paced behind the counter, chewing on your lip as you tried to convince yourself it would be fine.
Your door bursts open, bell barely ringing to alert you iof someone's presence before someone is grabbing your wrist. Your initial reaction is to pull away, to shove the intruder off of you and start screaming. But the blur of long, dirty blonde hair that drags you into the storage room only has other plans.
You were barely through the door before your back hits the shelves, a mouth crushed onto yours while hands held you in place by your waist. Melting into the heated kiss, you grab the front of his tunic, sliding your hands up and over his shoulders till they wrap around his neck.
“I didn't get a chance to tell you how beautiful you look today” he whispered into your mouth. Kissing the corner of your mouth as his lips trailed off to your jaw. Nipping at your skin softly when you tilted your head back. His hands sliding down to your hips, rubbing slowly circles with his thumb.
“Yeah?”
He draws away, cupping your cheek as he gazes softly into your eyes. “I love you.”
Your smile doesn't quite reach your eyes as you reply quietly. “I love you too.” And kiss his lips again.
“Are you really coming over tonight?”
“I don't think I have much of a choice at this point.” And you weren't wrong. You had a feeling if you didn't show up that Zelda would personally come drag you over there.
“Are you sure? Not that I'm not thrilled to get to see you more but I can think of an excuse if you aren't comfortable-”
“It’ll be okay Link,” Though it's more of a reassurance for yourself at this point. “If she hasn't suspected something by now I'm sure one night won't change that.”
“Well, in that case I guess I’ll see you tonight!” He smirked, leaning in for one more kiss which you were more than happy to supply.
_______
You stood on the wooden bridge that separated the old house from the rest of your quaint village. Hands fidgeting with your skirt as you tried to steady your breathing.
It was going to be fine. There really wasn't any reason to be as nervous as you were, yet you might as well have been tossed into a monster camp with how rapidly your heart was beating. You would just have to keep cool and not focus all of your attention on Link. You could do that. You and Zelda were good enough friends to hold your own conversations though there was still some awkwardness from your side. Probably cause you were secretly dating the man she was currently living with but hey- details.
You took a deep breath, holding it for a few seconds before slowly exhaling it into the night air. You approached confidently, giving a few knocks onto the door before you could think too much about it.
Not surprised to see Zelda standing in the doorway, you offered her a warm smile as she greeted you and ushered you inside. You could see the small table already set with a few plates and utensils. A lovely bouquet of swift violets displayed in the middle of it all. Your heart swelled at the sight of your favorite flower.
“Aren’t they lovely?” Zelda chimed, noticing your lingering gaze towards the purple flowers.
“Quite” You replied softly. You looked in the direction of their small kitchen where Link was currently focusing all his attention on the pot in front of him. His hair tied up, hands flitting about between the pot and a few ingredients still on the counter. The corner of his mouth lifting at the mention of the flowers. “Though I didn’t think these grew around here?”
“You would be correct! They mostly grow in the southwest regions of Hyrule near the gerudo highlands! Though you can find them up north a bit as well! I think that's where Link said he got them earlier, right Link?”
His head finally turned in your direction, blue eyes slowly trailing over you as he nodded absentmindedly.
“You got these today?” You asked, a small blush creeping onto your face as he smiled.
“Was in the right area this afternoon and figured why not. Though I'll admit I'm rather partial to these.” A quick wink and he was back to cooking while you could have melted straight into that pot of his.
“Is that so? Well Zelda is right, they are lovely and I wish they grew more around here.” You explained, sitting down at the table. “What brought you out that way?”
Zelda sat in the chair across from you. “Visiting a friend of ours in Goron City. He is starting an official mining company and I asked Link if he would go check to see how it was coming along! Which reminds me, how is it coming?” She asked, turning her attention to Link who was pouring a few drinks.
“Fine, still mostly in planning. Yunobo said something about finding a spot for ‘HQ’ and then will go from there.” He brought the two glasses over, placing one down on the table for Zelda while handing the other to you directly. You take it graciously, fingers skimming over his for a second longer than necessary before pulling away. Link scurried off back towards the kitchen while Zelda gives you a full debrief about the prospect of what this new found Goron company could provide for Hyrule. And even if you didn't fully understand half of what she was explaining, it was still fascinating.
DInner was ready soon enough, with Link bringing over a few bowls of soup and bits of bread before taking the seat beside you. Just as you expected, the soup was delicious. The flavors complement each other well with the peppers adding just a bit of a kick at the end. You would definitely be leaving with the recipe.
Conversation continued to flow as well though the you were much more distracted with Link by your side. His foot had found yours, nudging it playfully while you chatted. His hand occasionally slipping beneath the table to rub at your thigh before pulling away. You returned the secret affection by pressing your knee against his, sporadically hooking your foot over his that would make him fumble over his words subtly as his cheeks flushed a soft pink.
“Well I definitely think that one is a keeper Link,” Zelda said as she stood, gathering the dishes and depositing them into the sink. “(Y/n) Would you like to go see our project now?”
You nodded, following Zelda out the door towards the well behind the house. The now night air nipped your face, it's warm late summer breeze blowing at your hair as the grass rustled around your feet.
Link was the first one to climb down. Mumbling something about Zelda having fallen once. Her response was to just warn you that it could get slippery but assure you it was perfectly safe. So you threw your leg over onto the first plant of the wooden ladder, climbing down further inside of the well. It was dark, and you understood why they warned you about it being slippery cause the walls were damp and coated in slick rocks and moss as it opened up into the bigger space of their made cave. Link waited for you at the bottom of the ladder, his hands finding your waist as he helped you step off and onto the uneven ground beneath.
You shuffled a few steps away from the ladder, giving enough room for Zelda to stand beside you with the small torch in her hand. Link's hand stayed on your back, his thumb pressing a soft circle where it touched that sent tingles across your skin like the small ripples in the shallow pool of water in front of you.
“Wow” you gasped, looking around. “It's beautiful down here. I can see now why you were so excited for this Zel!”
“I'm so glad you agree! Now that the space is big enough the plan is to build a deck from here out to the…”
“You're beautiful” Link whispered so quietly it was barely audible. You spared him a glance, his eyes holding yours with an almost sad expression before dropping to the ground.
Zelda went on and on about the future plans she holds for the small space the three of you were now standing in. Dramatically throwing her hands around as if she could draw lines in the air to showcase her ideas. You half-heartedly paid attention, heart racing at every small touch from the man beside you.
You knew you would have to leave soon. There was no way you could keep it together for much longer if he kept looking at you the way he was. But the thought saddened you. You didn't want to leave. Not really. You wanted to stay and snuggle up beside him as you fell asleep. To feel his arms wrapped around you and know that in that moment nothing could hurt you.
It felt selfish but damn you really wanted to be selfish for just a few minutes. Just this once.
“It's getting late,” you finally interrupted. “I should probably head back home now but you'll have to let me come see it once it's all finished!”
Zelda went up the ladder first, leaving you and Link alone for a moment. His hand pressed more deliberately against your back, rubbing your spine soothingly.
“You okay?”
You just nod, eyes on the ladder ahead of you.
“Love what's wrong?”
“I miss you..” you whisper, grabbing onto the ladder to start climbing up. An arm snakes around you, a sturdy chest pressed against your back as your eyes start to feel as wet as your surroundings.
“(Y/n)...”
“We should head up,” You say, cutting him off. “Wouldn't want people getting the wrong idea.”
It was a low thing to say, and you regretted it the moment Link stepped away from you and you started climbing back up. Holding back the few tears that threatened to make their appearance as you hauled yourself up and back onto the soft grassy field.
“Thank you for having me over Zelda, it was a lovely time.” The words feel forced and you can only hope it doesn't sound that way as she gives you a hug.
“Can I walk you home?” Link asks, having followed you up. Part of you wants to insist you're fine, not wanting to draw out the inevitable goodbye. But his eyes are pleading with yours that you couldn't say no to no matter how much you wanted to.
He doesn't touch you until his house disappears from view. A finger hooking with yours until eventually your whole hand is in his, swinging softly to the pace of your steps. Neither of you speak until you turn down the small path that leads to your small home.
Link comes to a stop a few feet from your front door, eyes trained on the ground.
“I'm sorry,” he whispers, dropping your hand. “You deserve more than this from me.”
“Link-”
“Dont!” He snaps, “I hate this! I hate leaving you and knowing that it's hurting you as much as it hurts me! That I never really know when I'll be able to see you again or that I'm too big of a coward to stand up to some old hag..”
“You are not a coward!” You shouted, grabbing both his hands in yours. “Link you are the farthest thing from that. It's an impossible situation. I knew that going into this and I'll take it if it means I get to keep you close to me! I'm sorry I shouldn't have-”
“No, I'm sorry.” He pulls you to his chest. Arms wrapping around your shoulders, cradling your head to keep you close as his face hides in the top of your head. “I shouldn't have let this happen. I should have stood my ground, I'm so sorry.”
His hold on you was crushing, not that it bothered you. Your face squished to his shoulder, letting you breathe in his scent as you clung back to him. Neither of you moving away from the other as he continues to ramble off apologies. Brushing off any of your attempts to soothe him until he finally falls silent. Dropping his forehead onto your shoulder for a moment before pulling back.
You grabbed his face, smoothing his cheeks playfully that pulled a short huffed laugh from your sweet hero.
“I love you, and I wouldn't trade our time together for anything.” A short peck on the lips before stepping away. “You should go.”
He sighed, pulling you in for one more kiss goodnight. Whispering his love for you that nearly made you pull him inside and never let him leave again. Instead you watch him walk away again, waving goodnight as he glanced back at you over his shoulder one last time.
_________
You rubbed at your temples, tidying up around your shop in a rushed haze. It has been a rough morning and if the pounding in your head was any sign, it likely wouldn't be getting any better.
The door crashed open, banging against the wall that made you shoot a glare in their direction.
“(Y/n)!”
Link ran towards you with a large smile on his face, scooping you up in his arms as he spun you around. Giggling in surprise, you cling to him tightly until your feet are firmly back on the ground. Link is still holding you, his eyes wide with an excitement you haven't seen since his discovery of bomb flowers. He was dressed in a red tunic, the slate at his hip while a sword and shield was strapped to his back.
“Close up shop! I'm headed out and you are gonna come with me!” He said excitedly, pulling you towards the door.
“Seriously!? Okay wait, Link wait I gotta close!” You laughed, quickly pulling away to dash off and put a few things away.
“Hurry up!” He whined impatiently by the door. Practically bouncing on the balls of his feet as he waited for you to close up your shop.
The moment the lock clicked into place he grabbed your hand, pulling you with him as he ran down the path through Hateno village. Kids running along beside the two of you while adults stared curiously as you race beneath the village arch and into the woods just beyond.
The next few hours are spent running around copious woods and large grassy fields, scavenging interesting herbs and mushrooms. Steering clear of any known monster camps, but the few bokoblins you do inevitably run into are quickly dispatched of by your partner. Each time earning him a kiss or a few as thanks.
Soon you are making your way back home. Fingers intertwined with his in a leisure stroll. It's the happiest you've felt in a long time, wishing every day could feel just like this.
“I have one more stop I gotta make,” he whispers into your ear, tugging you up towards the hill instead of the path to your house. “Follow me!”
You do, trying to match his quickened pace. Laughing at his renewed enthusiasm. “Where are we going?”
“The pond!”
Sure enough, the two of you were coming up on the large pond where a small raft was waiting at the short wooden dock. Link let go of your hand, carefully stepping halfway onto it to keep it steady as he offered his hand out to you.
“My lady,” he said with a teasing ring to his voice as he bowed slightly. “Care to join me?”
You chuckled, accepting his hand with your nose now high in the air. “Of course My Hero.” You say in a similar manner that makes his face turn pink.
He helps you step on, letting you sit against its single mast before he fully gets on. Un-tying it from the dock, it starts to drift away to the middle of the lake where a singular tree stands alone on a tiny speck of land. It takes a few minutes to reach, letting you admire your surroundings. Fingers dipping into the warm water to flick a few drops over at Link who is trying to steer your little raft. He laughs it off, jumping off to pull the raft onto the grass as he helps you step off.
“Is there something you need here?” You ask, seeing nothing noteworthy about the small area. His arms snake around your waist, pulling you in close.
“Right here.”
He scoops you up into his arms, plopping down onto the ground with his back against the tree's trunk. You're sat on his lap, leaning your head on his shoulder as he kisses your forehead. You tilt your face up to his, letting him capture your lips in a gentle kiss that quickly leads to you straddling his hips while his tongue explores your mouth. Hands are gripped tightly to your hips, guiding them to move against him as you both moan and gasp for breath.
All sense of time is lost. The only thing you know is his touch. Hands sliding up beneath your skirt to grab at your thighs as you tug the long strands of his hair.
“Should we take this back to my place?” You say between moans. “We could-”
“(Y/N)!?!”
It was like the world came to a fault, tipping over the edge before shattering into pieces around you. Your head whipped around to see Zelda standing on the shore close by, her eyes wide and widening even further when she caught a glimpse of the man underneath you.
“Link!? What the hell is going on!?”
The two of you scrambled to your feet, Link immediately pushing you behind him as he waded through water towards her. “Zelda! It's..it's a long story but I promise we can explain!”
You followed after him, both of your lower halves sopping wet by the time you reached her. Her expression was hard to read. Obviously shocked but beyond that you couldn't tell if the look in her eyes was out of sadness or anger.
“How long has this been a thing?” She asked, her voice stern but a bit more calmer.
Link glanced back at you, taking your hand in his with a steadying breath.
“A while.” He admitted. “We've been together since before we took down the calamity.”
“Wait really? So all this time you've been hiding it? Why?”
“We just wanted to figure things out,” you said, stepping a bit closer. But Link scoffed which took Zelda by surprise.
“Impa.” He said bluntly. “We didn't say anything because Impa didn't approve. I'm sorry we should have told you. We..I just got scared that you would agree with her.”
Zelda's expression softened, reaching out to grab Link's other hand.
“Link, you have always been there for me. You have sacrificed so much for all of us. Do you love her?”
He nods his head, face turning red.
“Then forget what anyone else says! I'm happy for you guys and if anyone says otherwise then I'll be happy to chat with them!”
Link threw his arms around her in a tight hug. “Thanks Zelda. I'm sorry we lied to you.”
She patted his back sympathetically. “It hurts but I get it. Honestly though I'm a bit relieved. It saves me the trouble of trying to get the two of you together!”
Link stepped back and you hooked your arm with his. “What?”
“Oh yeah! Why did you think I invited you to dinner the other night? You two are clearly into each other and now I guess I know why!”
You and Link shared a look before bursting out into laughter. Zelda grabbed each of your hands, pulling you in the direction of the village.
A year later, and it's finally finished y'all! Thank you so much to everyone who has love this series as much as I have!

Warnings: We have finally reached the fluff guys!!
Peppermint.
The scent, hidden beneath layers of sweat, dirt and a heady musk, encompassed you like a warm blanket. You breathed it in, letting it gently guide all of your senses back into awareness like a beacon, chasing away the heavy haze of sleep clouding your mind.
Heavy limbs, accompanied by a deep soreness settled in your muscles make it painfully aware that you were indeed conscious, though that wouldn't describe your current state of being as ‘awake’ either. Just the thought of opening your eyes felt like a massive battle. Stiff joints and appendages begging you to return to a more restful dreamland. You contemplated the idea, though truthfully you were rather content staying the way you were now, burrowed deep in a silky soft fabric, resting securely against a sturdy surface that rose and fell gently. You sighed contently, nuzzling deeper into it as a different sort of weight wrapped around your form. Arms you figured, given the recognizable feeling of shaky fingers grazing up and down your arms, tracing up to your shoulders, pressing firmly into the pulse point of your neck for a second only to slide back down to your wrists. It was a soothing gesture, brushing away the ache and remaining pricks of pain that you somehow understood would still be there far after you actually awoke.
A warm, steady breath grazed over the top of your head, matching the quiet thumping of a strong heart beating beneath your ear. You copied its pace instinctively, breathing in and out, in and out over and over till you easily slipped back into the blissfulness of slumber.
________________
The next time you woke, you were being lifted gently into the air, supported by large, steadfast hands. They were different from the ones from early, though the sense of familiarity was still ever present. Hushed voices surrounded you, too quiet and muffled to tell who each one belonged to but close enough to register that they felt safe, despite the words they spoke being too jumbled for you to make heads or tails of.
The smell of peppermint lingers around you, peeking out through what you can only guess to be smoke from a longstanding campfire.Heat radiates to your left, an occasional crackling of wood and flames mixing in with the conversation taking place above you that confirms your suspicions.
“He's finally getting some rest. Took some convincing but with any luck he should be out for awhile.” You think it's Time talking, given the deeper voice and way the ‘suggestion’ leaves little room for arguing. But it doesn't match the new set of hands beginning to tug at your clothes. These ones are much smaller, still as strong and steady as the previous but with a softness to them that you knew none of your traveling companions could be capable of. They peel back the layers of your tunic, flitting about with something on your side that you can't for the life of you recall putting on, but it's there, wrapped around your torso, carefully being pulled off as though the one doing so is afraid it'll take your skin off with it if not done properly.
For a moment it feels as though it has, the last layer ripping off like a well worn bandaid that had been glued to your skin. The heat beside you wards off the chill of the air to the now exposed area, but you can't help but whimper when a cold liquid is slowly poured on it instead. With the little coordination you possess, you curl in on yourself, gritting your teeth against the sharp sting as those same, delicate hands press what feels like a damp cloth to the irritated area. The resulting groan that escapes your lips is embarrassing. Sounding more like a wailing alley cat than a hylian. But you suppose it works as the hands freeze from their work.
“Y/n?” This time as the voice calls out your name, you recognize it as Malon, the drawl in its tone unmistakably thick yet sweet. “Oh heavens I didn't mean to wake ya! Are you doing alright? Can I get ya anything?”
Slender fingers card through your hair, brushing away loose strands that had been stuck to the edges of your face. Leaded eyelids break apart, your world hazes and disoriented, but the bright red hair stands out like a blazing night fire, illuminated by the real fire opposite her. Her brows are furrowed, eyes slightly downcast but the smile plastered on her mouth is still as bright and genuine as the first time you met her.
“Malon?” Your voice cracks as you speak, vision focusing up on her familiar face.
“Its me hun, you feeling alright?”
“I-..I think so?” You answer, rubbing groggily at your forehead.
“You've been unconscious for some time now.” Time’s face appears just beyond Malon's shoulder, his hand braced against it as he crouches down to your level alongside her. “We were starting to worry the hit to your head was more serious than initially thought. Though now that you are awake we should have some of the others take a good look at you.”
Others. You perk up at the word, pushing yourself up onto your elbows. The sudden movement irritates your head, along with the aches lower down towards your ribs enough to make you wince. You can feel Malon and Time both reach towards you, unsure if they planned to help you up or insist you lay back down.
“Where-” you stutter, struggling to form the correct words through the pain. “Where is-”
“Its alright, everyone's here.” Malon explains, hands hovering over your arms. She doesn't push you down, though the hesitation is palpable as she tries to soothe you. “We're all alright, see?”
Scooting over to the side, and pulling her husband over with her, you can better see the remaining area of camp and more importantly its occupants. Everyone is split into groups no smaller than 3 or 4, chatting quietly amongst themselves while others silently bask in each other's presence.
Sky and Sun were off beneath the shade of a large willow tree. There were sewing tools in her hand, a pile of white cloth beside her with Sky's sleeping head occupying her lap. He was completely at peace, muscles lax, a slight smile with eyes closed. It was the exact opposite of what he had looked like from before you had passed out. If he opened his eyes would they be their normal gentle selves? Or would they still be glowing brighter than a lightning strike at midnight?
Either way, you were content not knowing for the moment.
Close by was the next group of heroes, Wind and Wild both huddled around an enthusiastic Dot, fiddling with something in their hands while listening intently to her words. Dot’s hair was down, ends tickling around her waist and the bow hanging precariously off the corner of Four's book that he holds in his hands, careful not to knock it off as he turns the page. You can't make out what she is saying, though given the wild gestures she's making and what looks to be corrections in how Wind is holding something, it's a safe bet that she is explaining something to them. Four mostly keeps to himself, only adding in a comment here and there, or an exasperated look when Wild seemingly almost broke whatever it was they were messing with.
Lastly, off to the right side of the clearing, you could see Twilight chatting away with Artemis and Lana, the blue haired girl taking a particular interest in the shadow crystal kept around his neck. And just beyond them were Hyrule and Aurora, the couple sat side by side, hands locked in each other's grip as the ladder chatted away with Legend. The blue cap has been returned to his head, covering the bandage wrapped around it that matches the one on his arm. But besides that and the look of existential confusion on his violet eyes as the flicked back and forth between the sweet couple, he too seemed to be fairing well.
Eyes scanned over each and every one of them, counting them off in your head, noting every detail in assurance that they were in fact alright. Heart rate spiking, your eyes scanned quicker and quicker, sweat beading along your forehead and when you realized someone was missing. Noting your growing distress, Malon reaches for you once more, wrapping an arm over your shoulders and tucking you into her side
“No need to fret, he's right over there.”
Gesturing over towards Sky and Sun, you watch as Time walks towards them, shaking a second sleeping figure tucked beneath the tree's shade that you had failed to notice. Beneath a small pile of blankets, Warriors is curled onto his side, brows pinched restlessly despite the clear exhaustion weighing on him. Its hard to say for sure if he's truly even asleep or not, but the panic begins to reside knowing he's at least trying.
“Poor thing, took three of ‘em to convince him to rest up.” Malon explains, “He's been so worried ‘bout ya he insisted on watching over ya himself. It wasn't till Sky pulled him down and pinned him there that he finally let himself relax a bit.
Warriors jolted awake the moment Time's fingertip grazed his shoulder, your own stomach lurching in sympathy. His eyes were wide, panic evident at the way he scrambled up like a newborn foul. Time had to grab hold on his shoulders, forcing him to look at him before you could see the tension in his shoulder relax enough for him to take a steadying breath. The scene of Time speaking to him swiftly blurred through thick tears as Warriors head snapped towards you. Sapphire burned through the heavy tears now sliding down warmed cheeks, your name, falling from his parted lips in a mixture of shock and pure loving adoration, phrased as a question as though he didn't believe his own eyes.
“Wars” you blubbered, arms immediately reaching out towards him.
Seven strides was all it took. Four strides till his hands clasped around your own. Six untill his arms were wrapping around you, your face was being buried into the strong build of his chest, covered only by the thin cream undershirt he still had on. And seven until your face was cupped between his hands and his lips slammed against yours. Desperate and needy, his mouth devoured yours, body pressed flush against yours. The kiss itself might as well have lasted a lifetime, capturing each of your senses till all you knew was the man before you. How long has it been since the last time you had even embraced like this let alone kisses? Hours? Days? How long had you all been trapped in that mansion? How long had he been subjected to Cia’s obsessive infatuation?
You clung tighter to him at the thought, moving your lips against his like this alone would convey every thought and worry that plagues your mind. He returned it tenfold. Sliding down to your waist, his fingers dig deep into your sides, pulling you closer till your back was arched, toes barely still scraping on the ground. The angle exasperated the pain in your ribs, threatening to snap if you didn't straighten back out. Ignoring it, you lean further into his touch, one hand hooking to the back of his neck while the other braces against his chest.
“I'm sorry” he whispered into your open mouth. “I'm so sorry this was all my fault. I never should have allowed us to go in that damn-”
“Don't you dare blame yourself!” prying your face away, sandwiching his face between your palms, forehead resting against his. “None of that was, nor ever will be your fault do you hear me!?”
A weak sigh, tears matching your own sliding down the softened curves of his face. The corner of his mouth tilts upward, a wet breathy chuckle escaping.
“Whatever you say sweetheart.” he whispers, tucking your head beneath his chin. “I'm just so glad you're alright.”
“Me too.
“As are we.”
Still locked in Warriors arms, you crane your neck to look over at Artemis, now standing beside the two of you. Her hands clasped in front of her, posture stiff and strong while her face showed only gentleness. “The others were kind enough to fully fill me in on what transpired to you all. So I would like to sincerely apologize for everything that has happened to you.”
“Oh!” You stammer, stepping away from Warriors slightly to better face her. “You don't have to apologize. Most of this I'm afraid was my own doing if I'm being honest. Couldn't keep my mouth shut.”
“So I've heard.” She says, a light chuckle behind the words. You glance beyond her shoulder, having caught the snorts of laughter coming from Twilight and Wild who were now putting something into a pot that hung over the roaring fire. Beside you, red flushes onto Warriors cheeks, which he tries desperately to hide behind the hand he runs down his face at the memory of your taunts to the sorceress. You smile unapologetically to yourself as Artemis continues on. “However, I must insist. Back when the war ended, I truly thought Cia had changed her ways and would adhere to the agreement of our truce. Link warned me not to trust her and I'm afraid I did not heed that warning. As a result, I feel like I must take responsibility for everything she has put you all through.”
“Your Highness-” Wars interjected, but silenced when Artemis raised her hand.
“Link,” her voice quiets, eyes full of sorrow meeting his. “You were right. And I am truly sorry for not listening back then. But from now on I will see that she is watched over more closely.”
Biting back the urge to protest, he simply nods his head as Artemis smiles. “Get some rest Captain. That's an order.” You don't think it actually is by the way they both laugh. Though you also have a feeling it will turn into one of she finds out he infact does not follow through on her suggestion. “You too Y/n. I'm glad to see you are alright.”
“Thank you” As she walks away, Warriors slips his hand into yours, fingers interlock with each other's. You can feel the slight tremor in his palm and the way his fingers fidget nervously as he brings yours up to his mouth, kissing the bruised knuckles.
“She's right,” A breathy admission, turning your hand to place another kiss this time on the inside of your wrist. “But let's get you a clean bandage first. I am not chancing that wound getting infected.” A kiss to your forehead, followed by a weary smile. Finally, he turns away, bending down to ruffle through the confines of his bag that Malon hands over. Emerged is a fresh roll of bandages and a small bottle filled with the familiar red liquid of potion. You cringe at the sight, it's unsavory flavor ghosting over your tongue in anticipation. Warriors chuckles at the reaction, setting it back down and out of sight. “May I?”
Plopping down onto the ground with a sting of pain. Lifting up your shirt, you can see the wound clearly for the first time, it's dark purple splotch with yellowish green edges marking most of your right side, trailing towards your back where likely the worst part of it is hidden from your view. The moment Warriors applied the slightest pressure to the area, you had to bite back a pathetic cry, clenching your jaw as your hands moved to try and push his away weakly. Warriors remained steady, patting the red stained cloth over the wound despite the tears pricking in the corner of your eyes.
“I know, I'm sorry.” He whispered, eyes focused on his work. “Itll feel better soon. I promise.”
It was a relief when Warriors discarded the damn cloth, finally satisfied with the cleanliness of the wound before wrapping a fresh bandage around your torso. Getting your shirt back on took a bit more work as well, needing more help than expected when you quickly realized you could not lift your arms above your head without inflicting pain upon your ribs. Warriors was more than happy to help with this task as well, showering you with whispered comforts between littering your face and neck with stolen kisses before tucking his arms beneath you and pulling you snug atop his lap.
Giggling, you lean your head back, his shoulder now your pillow while he hugged you tight. The position felt familiar, an odd sense of dejavu flowing through your mind without the ability to determine why exactly it felt this way. Surely the two of you had done this before, but you couldn't help but squirm slightly at the feeling that something was missing.
“Uhhh, guys?” Cracking open an eye, Hyrule stands a few steps away, golden eyes meeting yours with an intense seriousness to them. “Sorry, I.. I thought you might want this.”
Stepping closer, he hands over something folded neatly in his arms, and it takes only a short glance to recognize it as Warrior's scarf. Excitement rushes through the Captain as he takes it from him, unfolding it partly to inspect it, looking for damage, or more likely, any trace of Cia left behind.
“I took the liberty of washing it for you.” Hyrule explains, fidgeting. “Hope you don't mind.”
“Of course not,” you respond, sitting up straighter so that you are no longer rlounged across Wars. “That was very sweet of you, thank you.” The corner of Hyrules mouth twitches upward, and in a flash, Hyrule has lunged forward, not crushing you, but slinging his arms around you in an awkward hug.
“Thank you,” he says, voice cracking. “Aurora told me what happened down in those dungeons. Thank you for being there for her when I…I couldn't.”
It takes you a moment to remember clearly what exactly he's referring to. If anything you should be thanking her for making sure you didn't bleed out on that damp dungeon floor. Memories of fights dance through your brain, the pain, the never ending maze of hallways and doors. If anything you felt like a giant hinderance. That's when you recalled the shadows slinking into the cell. Their unnatural movements clawing for Aurora at Cia’s command, shoving them away before volunteering for her ridiculous “demonstration.”
Patting his back gently, you offer a soft smile. “No need to thank me Rulie. I'm just glad everyone's okay.” Peeling himself off of you, he wipes his face with his sleeve, giving you his warmest smile. “But you better start writing her letters, you twit! She was completely in the dark to what was going on and for that you owe me!” Honeyed eyes go wide, nodding his head apologetically with a tight chuckle.
Once promising to do as you have said from here on out, he departs, leaving you and Warriors alone in each other's company once more. Without a word, Warriors wraps his freshly cleaned scarf around the both of you. Relaxing back against him you take in a deep breath inhaling the distinct smell of-
Peppermint.
You can't help but smile, knowing that everyone made it out safely. That Warriors is out, safe and by your side. It would be foolish to think that everything would be exactly as it was, that he won't be affected by everything that has just happened. But for now, laying your head in the crook of his neck, breathing in his scent as you both drift off to sleep, maybe, just maybe it'll all be alright.
It's Twilight's turn y'all. May my sleepless suffering bless your day
Five more minutes
Twilight x reader
Warning: Fluffy goodness and head scratches
A low voice guided you back to the waking world, low and gravely as if it too had just awoken. It spoke in hushed whispers, the only words you were able to make out being your name.
Your eyes might as well have been glued shut. Something far deeper than meer exhaustion acting as the adhesive that stuck your eyelids together with shocking amounts of strength despite the dampness built up behind them.
Warmth hovers over your face, something rough with a unique softness, grazing over the apple of your cheek. A hand you realize, as it gently cups your face, thumb swiping back and forth just to the side of your eye in a languid rhythm.
"(Y/n), Darlin' I need ya to wake up."
Grumbling from your chest, the effort to peel open a single eye is enough to wish you had simply kept it close to begin with. White fabric from the fluffy comforter hugged securely around your body blocks the lower half of your vision, a faint glow from the dim lamp sat on the other side of the room barely providing enough light to see the features of Twilight's face. He's crouched down by your bedside, a warm smile that reaches all the way up to his eyes that hold a gentle fondness when they meet your drowsy ones.
"There ya are." He whispers, hand sliding gracefully from your cheek up to your forehead before fingers smooth fly away strands of your hair, tucking them behind your ear. "It's time to wake up sweetheart."
"Noooo" You croak, sounding worse than an out of tune ocarina. Nuzzling into the depths of the bed, blanket promptly pulled over your head. You shut your eyes, tossing around when the light hearted chuckle coming from the man before you reach your ears. You don't bother to fight when the blanket is pulled away, warmth replaced by Twilight's legs molding against your back as he sits on the bed behind you.
"I know, I know." He drawls, hand rubbing at your arm . It gives a soft squeeze to your shoulder, finger trickling up to your neck to lightly knead the taut muscles beneath your skin. "But we gotta get goin. Champ insists that it's gonna rain later and ya know how the Vet gets durin storms."
Leaning into his touch, body readjusts once more till your head rests atop his lap. His fingers delve into your hair, nails scratching along your scalp which only makes it more difficult to stay awake
"Five more minutes" you plead, hugging one of his legs close to your form. Twilight sighs, continuing his work on your head. You glance up at him through heavy eyelids, making sure to pout your lip slightly. It's a trick you only save for when you really want something, even though you likely use it more often than not. But he can't resist giving in every time and this morning doesn't seem to be the exception.
Another sigh, muscles relaxing down further onto the mattress. Hands grab underneath your arms, pulling you up so you are now sat on his lap. Youre leaned against his chest, arms securely wrapped around you as you lay your head in the crook on his neck, breathing in the hints of hay and musk that coat his clothes.
"Five more minutes." Twilight repeats, one hand grazing up and down your spine with the other holding your thigh, keeping you from sliding off his lap. "But you're dealing with the others if they get cranky later."
You smile, tilting your head up enough to kiss his cheek before snuggling further into him. "Deal."
Twilight x reader
Warnings: It is very short, but the idea has been in my head for months and needed out!
Twilight crossed his arms with an irritated huff, foot tapping on the wooden floor boards loud enough for those standing by to give subtle concerning glances. Meanwhile, all he could do was glare at the unwelcomed specimen that lurked just outside the stable's entrance, taunting him with his presence and Twilight swore the damn thing was smirking at him.
"Uhhm, Rancher?"
Twilight rips his gaze away long enough to see Sky standing before him. Pale blue eyes full of worry, eyebrows raised as they flitted back and forth between him and the entrance where he had been staring off at. That didn't discount the sly smirk on his lips Sky was trying to stifle with his hand.
"You okay?" He asks innocently. "You look a bit upset."
'Upset' felt like an understatement. Twilight wasn't just upset. He was agitated, vexed, enraged, and most importantly-... Jealous Betrayed. And considering the disgusting scene laid out in front of him he had every right to be.
"M'fine." He huffed, glaring down at his boots. With a silent chuckle, Sky sat down beside him, leaning back on his hands as he glanced sideways at him.
"You do know you can go talk to her right? You're her boyfriend, no one's stopping you."
Ears dropped down to his shoulders, the scowl on his face deepening as Twilight merely huffed in response. Clearly, Sky's eyes weren't working or he would have seen exactly what was stopping him from doing just that. Couldn't he see you showing affection to someone else? Someone that wasn't him!?
The minute the stable had come into sight you had practically beelined straight for the damn thing, crouching down and showering the mutt in sweet words and hugs. You had even kissed it, nearly shattering his heart in the process.
So what if it was just a dog? He, your beloved boyfriend, was the only one you should be showing this much affection to.
Twilight got to his feet, storming off despite Sky calling after him. He needed to put an end to this madness, now.
_________
You stared in disbelief.
In the midst of your petting session with the sweet Hylian retriever outside, Wolfie had come strolling towards you, nose high in the air and tail swishing back and forth as people shrieked and ran inside. A few of the stable workers were ready to grab their pitchforks! To which you, and multiple of your companions, quickly explained that he was with your lot and promised profusely that he was very well behaved.
It wasn't difficult to decipher what had caused the sudden appearance though. Not when the much larger beast had waltzed in and sat himself directly between you and the now cowering dog he had shoved out of the way with a proud look on his face.
Stare melting into an affectionate smile, you lift your hands up to his fluffy mane, letting your fingers run through the wolf's thick coat.
"Awww how's my favorite boy?" You coo, coming to cup his face with both your hands. "Was someone jealous that I wasn't paying attention to them?" Wolfie looked away, tail thumping against the ground when you scratched the sweet spot below his jaw. "It's okay, you'll always be my favorite."
Leaning forward, you plant a kiss right atop his wet nose. A tongue swiped out, licking repeatedly around your face till you have to push him away in a fit of giggles.
"Alright! Alright! I get it!" You laugh, sighing as the wolf lays himself across your lap. You run your fingers down his back, scratching lightly as you go and watching the wolf melt further into you. You knew making it up to him would likely take a while, you had been petting that dog for a while by now and by the look and feel of things, Twilight was not going to be letting this go anytime soon. To be honest, you were perfectly fine with that. Already coming up with more than enough ideas to spoil the snuggly wolf in your lap, as well as your loving, Hylian boyfriend.

Sky x reader ( x Hyrule if you squint)
Warnings: Just some more sleepy fluff cause I struggle with sleep. Can be platonic or romantic, mostly focuses on Sky but there's some Hyrule in there as well for some added sweetness
Sky woke up and immediately knew something was wrong.
The room was still, draped in darkness besides the sliver of silvery moonlight from where the curtains didn't quite meet each other. The bed beneath him soft, it's silky sheets smooths to the touch and comfortably warm enough to have pulled Sky right back to sleep had it not been for the feeling of dread that weighed down on him.
Rolling onto his side, he reaches out for where he had left the Master sword leaning up against the small bedside table, pulling it out of its sheath enough to peek at the blade. Beside the fresh glint of polish Four had done to it earlier that day, there's no extra gleam to it, letting Sky know that whatever unease he was feeling wasn't due to monsters or dark magic.
Setting it down, Sky flops onto his back, staring up at the ceiling in confusion. He never woke up in the middle of the night without a reason. Maybe it was something he ate? Health wise he felt fine though, so that didn't make much sense.
Was it one of the others? He knew it had been a rough few days. Wind especially had had a pretty rough day today, Time too seeing as he kept bringing out some of Malon's old letters he knew their 'leader' kept on him at all times. Maybe he should go and check on everyone, just to make sure everyone was alright and didn't need anything, and hopefully that will ease his unwarranted worry.
With a soft grumble, convincing himself that leaving the warmth of his bees will be worth it, Sky sits up. Throwing his feet over the side on the cold floor, he barely takes two steps before he freezes.
"Sky?" A soft voice calls out, gruff from sleep but very much awake and alert. "You okay?"
Shoot. He forgot Hyrule was here. The kid was an insanely light sleeper, often waking up multiple times during the night simply cause someone was tossing and turning in their sleep too much or got up just to go to the bathroom. It was why Sky was almost always paired up with him at Inns and other rest stops, knowing Sky slept like a rock and the Traveler could often get some actual need, uninterrupted rest.
Guilty washed over him as he turned to face a now wide awake Hyrule, sat up on the bed and hand hovering for the decorative handle of his sword.
"Sorry! I didn't mean to wake you up," Sky said, sincerely meaning it. "I'm just gonna go check on the others, I'll be right back."
Hyrule practically jumped out of bed. "Why? Is something wrong?"
"No! No everything is fine! I just..."
Hyrule raised an eyebrow, shoulders relaxing but only barely. "Sky what's wrong?"
Sky stayed quiet for a moment. He was a horrible liar when it came to things like this. But on the other hand, there was technically nothing wrong. Sky only thought there was a possibility of something being so.
"Im sure everything is fine." He reassured the younger hero who looked at him unimpressed.
"Sky-"
"It's just a feeling I have, that's all. It's not monsters or magic related I just-- think maybe someone needs something."
They stared at each other for a moment until Hyrule sighed, walking around to the other side of the bed where Sky was. "Let's get going then."
Sky startled, waving his hand in defense. "No, go back to bed Rule. I'm sure it's nothing and will only take-"
"Look, if something really is wrong then we will find whatever it is faster if we both go. Besides, i'll just wake up when you get back anyway. Might as well make myself useful."
Well the kid had a point there. Instead of arguing, and insisting Hyrule at least try and go back to sleep, Sky simply accepted the help and opened the door. Together, they walked out into the dim hallway, a small glow coming from the bottom of the staircase to their right. The only thing that was on the main floor was the lounge area and a small dinning room that Sky was fairly confident had closed hours ago. There were a handful of rooms downstairs, though if Sky remembers correctly, none of the others were placed in any of them.
"Alright, I'll take one room, you take the other?"
Nodding in agreement, they split up, each headed towards one of the two rooms the other 8 heroes are split between. Sky can't fully remember who ended up where, but since Hyrule was covering the other room, he supposed it wouldn't matter too much since everyone would still be accounted for. Turning around, he took the corridor to his left, walking a few doors down till he reached the one Wars had mentioned earlier. Not wanting to wake up anyone else for the night, Sky opens the door as silently as possible, poking his head inside to look around.
Twilight is in the bed to the right, his heavy breathing bordering on snores. Wild and Wind occupy the bunk beds on the other side, both sleeping away peacefully, although Sky doesn't understand how Wind could be comfortable when his limbs are precariously hanging off the edge like that. So he slips inside, stepping up into the ladder and carefully tucks the kid back into the confines of his bed, pulling the blanket up and silently wishing him goodnight. Content that Wind would no longer fall out of the bed, he takes a moment to look around, confirming for sure that nothing else was amiss.
He finds himself counting heads, scanning the room over and over again, the unease only growing stronger with the lack of reasoning. Whatever it was must be coming from the other room. Slipping back out, making sure not to close the door too loudly behind him, he makes his way down the hallway. Hyrule stepped out from the room, wincing when the door creaks a bit too loudly.
"Anything?"
Hyrule shook his head. "The Vet woke up and it took a minute to convince him to go back to sleep but the other three seemed fine."
It didn't make sense. If everyone was fine- wait three?
"Who all is in there?" Sky asks, feeling the gears in his head running at full speed.
Hyrule thinks for a moment. "It was the Vet, Captain, Smithy and the Old Man. Why?" Sky mentally counts through the group, having to start over multiple times to make sure he got everyone. Someone was missing. More specifically- you.
"Sky...?"
"Y/n wasn't in the other room." He says it under his breath, as though he's talking to himself more than he is to Hyrule.
"Maybe she went to the bathroom?" Hyrule suggests, but even Sky can tell by the way Hyrule is already starting to eye the stairs that he doesn't believe that. It only takes one look before the two of them are bolting for the staircase down to the first floor, Hyrule forgoing the last few steps altogether to jump over the banister in his haste.
"You check the lounge! Ask if the inn keeper has seen her! I'll check outside!"
They both take off running, Sky throwing open the door hard enough that it nearly slams into the wall behind it. The cold night air hits his lungs, rushing away any lingering drowsiness from his body. Dead leaves crumple beneath his feet as he scours the nearby areas, calling out your name.
"Sky?"
He whips around, startled to see you standing only a few feet away. You clearly haven't been awake much longer than he has, a thin blanket still wrapped around your shoulders though even from this distance he could see the small shiver you were trying to hide. Tears clouded your red, puffy eyes, fresh tracks streaking down your cheeks that glinted in the moonlight, begging for Sky's attention.
"What are you doing out here? It's the middle of the night, you should be asleep!"
Hylia's Chosen Hero didn't even respond, simply strolled forward, grabbed you by the shoulder and shoved you into his chest. Arms wrapped snuggly around you, holding you flush to him. No words were exchanged. Words could wait. Right now, all Sky knew is you were upset and he was going to be there for you.
Ever so slowly, you melted into his embrace, nose burying into the collar of his shirt till there was a small wet spot forming, soaking into the fabric.
"Shhhh it's okay, you're okay." He whispers, fingers brushing your hair, smoothing away the tangles left from sleep. "Are you okay? Are you hurt?"
You shake your head, pulling away enough to wipe at your face. "Its nothing," An obvious lie. "Just a bad dream is all. I thought some fresh air would help but.."
A relieved sigh, the unease finally lifting from his chest as he took the blanket, readjusting it properly back onto your shoulders. He cups your face, wiping away the tears that wouldn't seem to stop with his finger. It pains him to see you upset, worse to know that you hadn't immediately come to him for help. But he was here now, and if there was one thing he has learned from this adventure, it's how to comfort someone after nightmares.
"Do you wanna talk about it?"
You shake your head, unknowingly leaning into the palm of his hand. More tests pricked the corners of your eyes. "I'm sorry, I didn't wanna wake anyone."
"Shhhh" Sky hushed, pulling you back in for a hug. "Don't worry about that. Were just glad you're alright."
"We?"
"Sky! I can't find- Oh!" Hyrule ran up, stopping right next to Sky. His face falls the moment he registers the tears, looking to Sky who silently mouthed 'nightmare' to him. Nodding in understanding, he simply steps closer, a hand on your shoulder, and offers a comforting smile.
"There you are! We got worried when you weren't in the rooms." Hyrule explains, running a hand through your hair,a finger brushing over your cheek as it slides down. "Come on, it's freezing out here and it's late. Let's get back to bed."
They each grabbed one of your hands, tugging you back inside of the Inn. You didn't argue, letting the two heroes lead the way up the stairs and down the narrow hallway. When they passed the room you had originally been staying in you paused, looking at them both for an explanation. Sky just smiled at you, letting Hyrule open the door to their room before ushering you inside. You stood just beyond the doorway awkwardly, watching as they each strode over to the bed, Sky already flopping down with a content hum. They both looked to you expectantly.
"Well? You plan on falling asleep standing up or you gonna come lay down?"
"It's fine! I can go back to the other room. I don't wanna take up your guys space or anything!"
Sky and Hyrule shared a glance, one usually reserved for when Legend and War's were starting an argument over the dumbest things. Hyrule strolled back over to you, hands braced between your shoulder blades as he actually pushed you over to the bed. The second you were close enough Sky reached out, grabbing your arm and yanking you down on top of him, trapping you in his hold once more as he rolled over onto his side, placing you beside him. The bed was warm, muscles instantly relaxing down into the soft, silky sheets with Sky's chest as your pillow and his arms as a blanket. The scent of clean sheets, mixed with hints of lavender and honey lulled your senses, calming your mind and still racing heart beat. Hyrule laid down on your other side, scooting in close so you could feel his chest pressed against your back, draping an arm across your stomach and tangling his feet with yours.
"Get some sleep" Sky whispered, kissing the top of your head. " We'll be right here if you need us." Hyrule hummed in agreement, his face nuzzling into your shoulder as they each drift off to sleep.
The memories of your nightmare melt away, replaced by the security of knowing your sweet heroes would in fact be right there if you woke up again. With a sigh you shut your eyes, sinking further down, still sandwiches between the two boys and let sleep overcome you.
Can I make a request about the reader (I prefer fem but gn is also okay) Having a flat and cold face expression makes people think that she is a cold and firm person. But in reality, she has a very laidback and blunt+logical nature, But she also prefers to remain silent because she is afraid that her words will hurt the person she is talking to.
And about Link, you can choose the one that suits with it ☺️
Sorry if my English is bad 🙏 (i use translator for this 🥲), Thank you for the opportunity to request it!
When I tell you that this is ME!! I seriously LOVED this request so much! I focused more on reader preferring to stay silent but there are hints to their cold expression as well!
Icebreaker
Hyrule x reader
Warnings: none!
The fire casted an orange glow across Hyrule's face, the freckles splattered across his nose seemed to shimmer in its low light. His cheek was smooshed into his hand, elbow digging into his leg to support the weight of his head slumped to its side. Eyebrows furrowed, his brown eyes were glued to the other side of camp where you were sat near Time, quietly enjoying dinner. Hyrule mindlessly picked at the bowl in front of him, skewering the pieces of mushrooms and meat but never taking a bite of either.
“What's got you pouting?” Legend snarked, plopping down beside him with an over exaggerated huff. “You look like someone dropped a chuchu in your food.”
“Im not pouting” Hyrule mutters, forcing his gaze down to his food. Using his fork to pick at the little pieces some more, he finally takes a bite, realizing the food has long since gone cold.
“Right, and Sailor doesn't steal all of his potion supplies." With a slight roll of his eyes, Legend leans back on his hands, eyeing Hyrule skeptically. It didn't take a genius to know what the kind hearted kid was so upset about. All Legend had to do was use his eyes, looking across camp to see who the Traveler kept glancing over to with the saddest puppy dog eyes that would put Wolfie's begging to shame.
"You know you can just go talk to them right?"
Hyrule stiffened, averting his gaze down to his boots, mumbling something Legend couldn't quite make out but had a good guess of what it was about. Legend rubbed his forehead, willing the inevitable headache that would be getting involved in this mess to at least not develop into a full migraine. Seven adventures, and here he was, The Hero of Legend, being reduced to the role of matchmaker for his smitten successor.
Hylia better let him retire in peace after this.
"Rulie," Legend said, trying not to sound as harsh as he usually did. "Seriously, just go talk to them."
"I've tried!." Bringing his knees up to his chest, Hyrule wraps his arms around himself, chind resting atop his knees. "Every time I try talking to them they just- they never respond and just stare at me!" He slumps further with a frustrated sigh. "I don't think they like me very much..."
"By the Three please tell me you didn't try giving them some of that nasty ass meat in your bag!"
"One time!" Hyrule shouted a bit too loudly, drawing some of the other's attention. Including yours. He shys away, mumbling an apology as everyone goes back to their meals and own conversations. Only Legend catches the way your gaze lingers longer than the others, eyes flickering between him and Hyrule, mostly Hyrule, with somewhere between an annoyed glare and skepticism.
Not that that was uncommon for you. You were worse than him in that regard, constantly looking like you were pissed off at the world with eyes that one day he swore would one day turn into actual steel daggers and strike him and the others down for their dumb decisions. Unlike Hyrule though, Legend understood it was a facade, having clocked it within hours of you joining the group a few weeks ago. Did Hyrule not see that?
Also, what the hell did he mean you never respond? Sure you tend to keep to yourself but surely the kid is over reacting, it's not like you've never talked before. He can see Time talking with you right now! Clearly Hyrule noticed as well cause his pout had now turned into a full on scowl.
"They just don't know you yet. You weren't exactly a talking machine either when you first joined." Legend points out, hoping it at least gets him to stop looking so upset. "Just go join them. It's not like the Old Man is gonna give a shit." Hyrule considered it for a moment, looking to Legend for a bit more reassurance. Legend groaned instead, pinching the bridge of his nose. "By the-... Go!" Legend shooed Hyrule onto his feet, nudging him towards you. "Literally all you have to do is say hi."
"Okay okay!!" Hyrule brushes himself off, chewing on his lip nervously and strolls over to where you and Time were still talking.
Legend smiles to himself for a job well done. Knowing from personal experience it's basically impossible to not get along with their easy going traveler hero. He sits back, legs crossed and keeps an eye on Hyrule as he approaches you, face falling as he watches Time address him instead. Without a word, you get up and walk away, leaving Hyrule and Time to themselves. Mere seconds later Hyrule comes back, plops down on the same spot he had just been and glares at Legend.
"Great idea Ledge, now I gotta do second watch."
Okay maybe this was going to be harder than he thought.

"There's enough of us. Splitting up will help us cover more ground quicker." Wars argues. "We can pair off. Half of us stay out here and check the surroundings areas while the other half can check out the temple."
"Temples like this are always more dangerous than you think." Time counters. "Or don't you recall what happened in the first one we found?"
Wars visibly shudders as you suppress a snort of laughter at his reaction, recalling the way the brave Captain and Champion had crawled there way out of their first dungeon with expressions of pure terror. Or at least Wars did. Wild looked rather pleased with himself and kept assuring the poor man that "hey, atleast we didn't die!" Though he did profusely apologize to Legend, something about toes?
Wars and Time continued to bicker back and forth, each one stubbornly insisting on how the group should proceed. Just as Time had suggested, the Temple you had found deep within the forest was small, walls cracked and crumbled from age, the overgrown plants covering the windows and path with vines like an intricate web, preventing any of you from peeking inside. And not for the lack of trying either. Sky and Hyrule were currently whacking and pulling at a tangled pile of vines trying to get one of Twilight's boots free, while Legend was lecturing Wind about why burning it all down with his fire rod for once was not the solution.
You hung back with Four, both of you dreading the moment one of you would inevitably need to get involved in any of the situations playing out in front of you. And judging by the fact Twilight now had both boots slowly slipping further beneath the vines, your rupees were on them. So you kept your eye on them, waiting to see when exactly the moment of need would present itself. Your eyes trailed over to Hyrule, crouched low to the ground as he sawed at a thick vine with his silver sword. His hair hung in his face, loose brown curls getting pushed back every so often as he wiped away the sweat from his brow as he worked. At some point he looked up, catching your gaze and offered a sheepish smile.
You looked away, focusing now all of your attention on Wars and Time's argument instead of the fluttering in your stomach. It only took a minute before your eyes slowly scanned back over, relieved that he was no longer looking back at you and instead back on the stubborn vine that wouldn't seem to break.
"You gonna go ask if he wants any help or just keep staring at him?" Four asks, nudging your ribs with his elbow. When you don't respond, the blacksmith sighs, his gaze softening into something more serious.
"You still haven't talked to him have you?" It wasn't an accusation, even if it felt like one, but rather more of a statement given Four had a decent idea of what the answer was. You shook your head, attention solely now on the small pebble beneath your boot than on Four or the companion in question. In your defense, Hyrule wasn't the only one. The only real conversation you've had with any of them was with Four, and you supposed Time and Wars though those were more about strategy than either of your personal lives.
If your era had taught you anything, it was that opening your mouth only caused problems. Well intentioned comments stirred contention. Harmless inquiries and offers of solutions initiated heated arguments and more times than not left people put off, and offended. The last thing you needed was to ruin your relationship with your new companions before it could even start, so you simply kept quiet, speaking only when spoken too, offering nothing more than what was explicitly asked for. It became an unspoken rule for yourself. A rule to protect yourself and those around you.
A rule Four had somehow picked up on near instantaneously and was slowly trying to break.
"You have to talk to him eventually." Four muttered, rubbing at his forehead. "Im not saying you have to spill your entire life story to all of us but...come on, surely you can have a small, simple conversation. We aren't gonna bite your head off. I mean we still talk to Legend, so that's gotta prove something right?"
Oddly enough? It kinda did.
Legend was brash, always had an opinion and rarely didn't share it. Sure he would get the odd scolding from some of the older heros every so often when he clearly crossed a line, but more times than not his comments were met with equal amounts of snark and sarcasm that he dealt out. No one pushed him away and truly treated him poorly because of it. Even Hyrule, who seemed especially close to him. Always laughing and hanging off of the other. Would Hyrule act the same if it was you?
Nope. You weren't goint to entertain that thought. Legend was a hero just like Hyrule. Of course they were going to get along. You weren't gonna let yourself get your hopes up only to open your mouth and be proven wrong once again.
Time called out your name, waving you over to join him and Wars.
"Just think about?" Four asks as you start walking away. You nod with a defeated sigh, watching Four begin to walk over to Sky before you dart over to Time and Wars. You look to Time first, waiting for him to say whatever it is he needs from you.
"I would like your opinion on the matter." He explains, giving you a quick run down of each option. You listen carefully, not telling him you had been eavesdropping the entire conversation and already had an idea of how you thought to proceed.
"How about this-" you explain, voice cracking slightly. "We do War's plan but the half going inside can check it out and if it's bigger than we think or there's monsters inside, Wild or Wind can use their stone things and tell the others to head inside."
"I knew there was a reason we kept you around!" Wars teased, throwing an arm over your shoulders and ruffling your hair a bit. You just rolled your eyes, shoving him away as you looked to Time for his thoughts on the matter. He hummed, nodding his head a bit.
"That could work. Alright, Wars why don't you take Wind, Legend and Y/n here and go check it out. Have Wind update us in 10 minutes."
The Captain nods with a large grin on his face, sending out a sharp whistle that grabs everyone's attention before you could protest. "Wind! Hoarder! Over here!"
Wind cheered, skipping over to War's side and nearly knocking him over in excitement as some of the others groaned in disappointment. Legend followed behind him, casually joining your small circle.
"What's up?"
"I'd like you four to go check inside." Time explains. "But I want you to update us in 10 minutes using the sailor's communication stone. Think you all can handle that?"
Wind readily agrees dashing away to go tell Wild to keep an ear out for his update. Legend stays quiet, crossing his arms over his chest while looking you up and down before looking back to Time.
"Hyrule should go instead."
Your head snaps to the side so quickly you can hear it crack inside of your skull.
"Reasoning?" Time asks cooly.
Legend shrugs, playing it cool but you noticed the slight twitch of a smirk as he side eyes you again. "Just think he should be given the chance." Your eyes narrow into a glare at him, trying to read what the hell he meant by that as he turns.
"Hey Rulie!"
Hyrule's head snaps up, dropping the vine he had been working on when Legend waves him over. He stands between Wars and Legend, looking between everyone.
"What's going on?"
"I want four of you to go investigate the temple. Veteran suggested you go in his stead."
Hyrule's eyebrows shot up into his forehead, looking to Legend who was smugly keeping quiet. "Wait really? Ledge you love exploring dungeons."
"Ehh, I could use a break. Once you see a few you've seen them all." He brushed off with a wave of his hand. Hyrule, clearly not buying it, cocked his head.
"Mhmm... Well who else is going?"
"It will be you, Wars, Wind and Y/n."
Hyrule's eye twitched at the mention of your name, "Uhh yeah. Yeah I can go. Let me just make sure I have everything!" He threw his arm around Legend's shoulders as he walked away, roughly dragging the Vet away with him. He was obviously annoyed, the two clearly having a whispered argument that resulted in Hyrule smacking Legend over the head that Wars didn't even pretend not to notice by audibly laughing.
Watching it made your chest tighten uncomfortably, wondering what it was that had made Hyrule so clearly upset. Legend had clearly done this on purpose, but Hylia, and likely Hyrule, knew the reason why. Did you have something to do with it? You couldn't imagine why, nor were you thrilled at the aspect of being split off into a small group with the one person you couldn't talk to if your life depended on it.
Maybe this would be your chance?
But then you remembered how upset he had seemed, and that hoped was dashed before letting it start.
It's only a moment later before both Hyrule and Wind have made their way back over, ready and eager to head inside. Wars leads the way with Wind bouncing alongside him, leaving you and Hyrule to follow behind.
Reaching the door, you glanced over your shoulder to Four who was giving you an encouraging thumbs up, eyeing Hyrule who was still standing next to you. Shooting him a glare when he mouths 'you've got this! Just talk to him!' because you knew you infact, did not have this.
-------
Candles lit the room in a soft glow, leading up to the dais you currently stood on, examining the intricate mural on the wall. Whether it held any significance or not was yet to be determined, but the way its colors glimmered in the low light was captivating, making it hard to pull your attention away from it.
From the corner of your eye you could see Hyrule slide up into the space beside you.
"Hi"
You glanced over for only a second, acknowledging his presence but decisively keeping your mouth shut like you had told yourself to. Hyrule's gaze fell away from you, focusing instead on the mural before you as he rocked lightly on his heels. ""Wow, this is beautiful." He awed, "Theres not a lot of art like this back in my era. Mostly in churches and really old sanctuaries. What about you? I bet the castle in your era has stuff like this all over the place right?"
Four's words echoed in your head. Surely you could answer such a simple question. Lips parted, but no words were spoken. A thick lump formed, your throat constricting around it to block any sort of sounds that may or may not have come out. It didn't phase you, though the sting of disappointment accompanied that slight shrug of your shoulder, settling for a small shake of your head to indicate 'no'.
"Oh" was his only response, rubbing at his neck while shifting his weight from side to side nervously.
"Hey! We're gonna go check out the next room? You guys coming?"
Turning to begin walking towards where the sailor had walked off to, you pause, looking back to see Hyrule still fixated on the mural. His head tilted to the side, a hand coming up to brush his fingertips alone the stone wall.
"I think there's something-"
Pressing just enough pressure into a small stone at the bottom where the paint had dripped too far down, it budges with a soft 'click', the wall opening wide before you. Too surprised, Hyrule falls forward, stumbling through the wide opening that slowly begins to close behind him.
"Hyrule!" Without hesitation you lunge forward, barreling through the entrance before it closes once more into what you had thought to be just a solid wall. Unable to see, and therefore unable to brace yourself, your body crashes into something, sending you and it tumbling to the ground with a shout of surprise and a low groan as limbs hit the floor.
Pushing yourself up, you notice the way the surface beneath your fingers shifts, a low groan coming from beneath you. A hand lightly grabs your waist.
"You okay?" Hyrule asks from beneath you. His voice is low, and you can't tell if it's from the fall or the fact you're practically laying on top of him. You mumble out an apology, scrambling off to sit what is hopefully beside him, listen to the sounds of Hyrule pushing himself up.
"Well...didn't see that coming." He chuckls, but it's tight, nervous. "Though I still can't really see anything right now either. Hold on," you can hear him rummage around in his bag, his arm grazing against yours on accident as you quickly scoot away to give him a bit more space. There's a strike of a match, a small glow brightening around you, letting you see Hyrule's face as he lights his candle before putting out the match. He holds it up higher, trying to see your surroundings with little luck.
He gets up to his feet, squinting in the low light before he catches you still on the floor. He leans over, offering you his hand quietly. Hesitantly, your hand slips into his, letting him tug you upward till you were up on your feet beside him. It was a good thing it was dark cause you could feel the color in your cheeks rise, retracting your hand nervously away from him. He wanders over to where the wall had opened, brushing a hand along the stones to try and feel for another trigger to open it up.
Nothing.
"Uhmmm..." Hyrule says, chewing on his lip. "I think we might be stuck."
_______________
'Stuck' had turned out to be a bit of an exaggeration. They weren't stuck, they just weren't able to go back the way they had come. Although, as Hyrule looked around the room, the dark chasm separating them from what looked to be the ticket out, he decided that maybe 'stuck' was the correct term after all.
At least they had found some torches, so they were no longer in complete darkness. But that was approximately where their luck stopped as you have yet to find a way to cross the large gap to reach the staircase far across it.
Hyrule glanced over to where you were wandering nearby, eyes scanning high above to look for something they hadn't yet discovered. The silence between you weighed heavy in his heart, guilt for dragging you into this predicament palpable. He wanted to apologize, to see if you had any ideas, to ask about your experience, to get to know you.
He just really wanted to talk to you.
A soft tap on his shoulder startled him, jumping slightly as he looked to his left. You were right beside him, staring back at him curiously at his reaction.
"Uhh, sorry." He mumbled, trying to calm his nerves. "Need something?"
You turn, pointing up towards the ceiling. Hyrule follows it, squinting his eyes but not seeing whatever it is you are trying to point to. "What is it? Is something up there?" He asks, still struggling to see what you are trying to show him. You grabbed his wrist, tugging him closer and pointing more deliberately to what looks like some sort of crystal hidden in the crevice of the wall.
"Switch." Your voice comes out as a breathy whisper, as though speaking was a foreign thing your body didn't know how to do. Hyrule just stared at you for a moment, entrapped by the sound.
He wanted to hear it again.
Waving your hand in front of his face snapped him out of his thoughts. "Sorry what?" You motioned back to the crystal, your voice replaying in his mind as he fully processed what you said this time.
"Oh! Wow I would have never noticed that! Good job y/n!" He turned to grab his boomerang from his bag, missing the slight hue of pink that tinted your cheeks at his praise. With careful aim, the boomerang cuts through the air, smacking against the crystal before returning to its owner. Hyrule catches it with ease, waiting with baited breath to see what would happen.
A minute goes by before Hyrule tries again, throwing the boomerang a bit harder than called for to make sure it is in fact hitting what clearly looks like a switch. When nothing happens once again he tilts his head.
"Maybe we missed something? Did you see any more?"
You shake your head, pulling out your bow and a small bag. Hyrule leans over, curious as to what you are planning when you pull out what looks like yellow jelly from a chu-chu. You skewer it onto the tip of your arrow, aim, and fire. The crystal glows, floor rumbling beneath your feet but stops as the glow fades away. You immediately grab for more arrows, though Hyrule quickly stops you. A loud snap of his fingers and a crack of lightning shoots through the room, striking the switch that now glows brightly with its charge. The floor rumbles again, a narrow bridge protruding out to cross over the large chasm, connecting to the other side.
Hyrule smirks. "Awesome! Let's get out-" He freezes when he sees you staring at him, eyes wide and mouth pressed into a thin line.
Oh shit. Shit shit shit had he scared you? He knew about Legend's fear of lightning, were you scared of it too!? He reached out for you, ready to comfort or apologize or do whatever you needed from him but froze when you opened your mouth.
"That...was cool."
His mind buffered, unable to help the smile that plastered onto his face at hearing your voice. Even more so when he realized it was directed at him.
"Yeah?"
You nodded, fidgeting with the hem of your tunic. Hyrule waited patiently, heart fluttering in his chest to see if you would say more. It took a moment, your mouth opening and closing multiple times as if debating on if you should.
"Do... you have other spells?" You immediately stepped back, like the question was a bomb waiting to explode between them. Hyrule nodded furiously, taking a tiny step closer.
"Loads! I have a whole book of spells I found on my second adventure!" He explained cheerfully, listing off some of the spells he had learned and the ones he used most frequently. You listened to every word intently, slowly walking beside him across the bridge to the stairwell that would hopefully lead you back to the others.
"Do you know any magic?" Hyrule finally asked, testing his luck in hopes to hear more about you.
"A little. Not... Not as much as you."
Hyrule beamed. "I can teach you some if you want! There's a few simple ones in that book you could probably try!" He stepped a bit closer to you, shoulder brushing against yours. You didn't pull away, the hints of a smile tugging at the corner of your mouth.
"That'd be nice."
The conversation didn't last much longer, more puzzles, a small boss and getting scolded by Wars for getting separated calling for all of your attention. But Hyrule didn't care. All he cared about is that you had finally talked to him, and he couldn't wait to teach you some of those spells.
